  2. Go to your profile page once again.
  3. Choose Friend Requests.
  4. Select a friend request and tap on Become Friends.
  5. Confirm with OK.

Imagine if you had to contact your friend each time on Facebook, Discord, or another social platform, just to play for a bit! Inviting them directly via Switch is much easier and more practical.

If you’re wondering how to add friends on Nintendo Switch, never fear! We’ve got everything you need to know right here.

To get more friends, sometimes you just need to know how. And in the case of Nintendo Switch at least, it can be a little more complicated than you’d like to make new ones.

Nintendo uses its own special Friend Code system to deal with the social aspects of the Switch, so you need to be able to navigate that to increase your friends list.

So, here is what you need to know to add friends on your Nintendo Switch…

How to add friends on Nintendo Switch

Adding friends isn’t all that hard, it’s just a matter of knowing where to look.

To find your Friend Code, first you need to select your Profile, by clicking on the picture on your avatar in the top-left corner of the Switch homepage.

Once you’re in your profile, look at the right-hand side of the screen. The Friend Code starts with “SW”. You can tell a friend your Switch code, or they can tell you yours – only one of you needs to do the actual adding.

When you’ve received the Friend Code of someone that you want to add on Switch, this is what you need to do:

  • Select your profile
  • Choose ‘Add Friend’
  • Choose ‘Search with Friend Code’
  • Enter the numerical part of their Friend Code
  • Click Send Request
  • Finally, hit OK

Now, your request is sent! The ball is in your friend’s court now.

All your friend needs to do is this: go to their profile, click ‘Add Friend’, and then check their Friend Requests. They should see your friend request in there.

Other ways to add friends on Nintendo Switch

This isn’t the only way you can add friends though. There is actually one much easier way to do it, as long as you meet a few requirements.

The first requirement is that you have either a Facebook or a Twitter account, or both. You then need to link your Switch to those accounts using the Switch itself.

Once you’ve done that, you’ll be able to browse a list of everybody else that has done the same in your Facebook or Twitter friends-lists. If you find someone you want to make Switch-friends with, then you can just send them a request using that system instead.

This way is much easier than faffing around with Friend Codes, but you have to use Facebook or Twitter, so it’s up to you whether or not that’s worth it.

Thank you for posting on the Xbox forums. I’d be happy to help as best that I can.

The old gamertag being displayed on the Xbox Live profile in certain locations is a known issue and currently being worked on. I believe the reason is that the gamertag system had an update to how it works not too long ago and the new gamertag system is still being assimilated on all platforms. The gamertag update is further explained in the following FAQ: Gamertag Update FAQ

I would recommend changing the gamertag for free using the new system from the following link:

You don’t need an Xbox Live Gold subscription to play Minecraft on a Nintendo Switch, so that has nothing to do with it. I posted a link to a support article which explains how to add friends from but I’ll go ahead and post the steps here for easier accessibility:

  1. From the page, select Sign in at the top right-hand side of the page. Make sure to sign in to you child’s account, not yours.
  2. Select your gamerpic, and from the dropdown, select Friends.
  3. Type the gamertag in the Search gamertag box. Be sure to pay close attention to the gamertag’s spelling and spacing.
  4. Select Add friend to add the person’s gamertag to your friends list.

If it won’t let you because of age restrictions, you will need to manage your child’s Xbox Live privacy settings online through your own adult account if you have already added your child account to the Family. The following article will explain everything you need to know on how to manage a child’s Xbox Live privacy settings through Please read through the support article for further assistance.

As I cannot access the Xbox privacy settings on with a child account, I can’t tell you what is on there and what isn’t but all Xbox Live privacy settings you find on an Xbox One console should also be listed on The setting you should be looking for would be listed under Friends & clubs and then Allow should be set for “You can add friends.”

Sign in to Click on the profile icon in the top right and the select the 3 dots (…) and then Xbox settings. On the following page you should see some account settings, but you will want to select Privacy & online safety. At this point I’m locked from going any further on my end because the website requires account verification so I can’t see the following page after that.

You can also always try modifying the child account’s privacy settings from the Xbox 360 console. First you will need to make sure the adult account and child account have been downloaded to the console. Then sign in with the adult account and On your console, go to Settings , and then select Family . Select the gamertag of the child whose settings you want to adjust. Under Privacy & Online Settings , select Change Settings . Update the settings and then exit the screen to save.

I hope that helps!

It used to be impossible for people using the PlayStation 4 to connect with their friends on the Nintendo Switch. With Sony’s recent acceptance of fully open Crossplay connectivity, this has greatly changed the PS4’s gaming environment. Game developers have now bridged these two platforms together by offering such a system in a variety of titles.

How to add friends on the nintendo switch

In this article, we’ll show you how to add Nintendo Switch friends, and play with them on the PS4 through the Crossplay system.

About Crossplay

In late 2019, Sony opened up Crossplay with other gaming systems. Since then, developers have certainly taken advantage of it. But what is Crossplay exactly? Well, it’s the ability of a platform, whether hand-held, console, or PC, to connect to anyone playing the same game. Technically, you don’t directly connect to different platforms. Rather, everyone playing the same title is put on a single server regardless of what they’re playing it on.

This may become an issue when players on consoles go up against people using a computer, especially with first-person games. There are ways to edit the settings though, as we’ll show you later in the article.

Checking Crossplay Settings

Crossplay settings can differ for each game you play. Many games have Crossplay enabled by default, while some may not. Fortnite, for example, requires you to agree to Cross-platform play. Otherwise, you’re locked from regular matches. Minecraft, on the other hand, won’t enable it unless you log in with a Microsoft account.

The games that support Crossplay between the PS4 and Switch are listed below. Also given are a quick summary of their cross-platform settings.

Adding Friends Through Crossplay

If a game allows you to play with other platforms, adding them to your friends list is as simple as searching for their in-game handle and clicking on Add Friend.

Refer to the games list to see the Crossplay settings of each game. You may have to create an account with the game’s own site to be able to see users on different platforms.

Games Available for Crossplay on the PS4 and Nintendo Switch

Not all games offered on the PS4 or Switch can be connected through Crossplay. Because the system has only recently been introduced, only a limited number of titles have the capability. Here’s a list of games that currently support Crossplay between the PS4 and the Switch. Note that this list is subject to change. You can check your game’s documentation to see if it supports Crossplay.

  1. Brawlhalla
Enabled by default. Create a custom room and give room number to your friend.
  2. Dauntless
In the Login Screen, choose Options. Go to Gameplay and scroll down. Make sure Crossplay is enabled. To add friends, Open Social Menu and send Invite.
  3. Dragon Quest Builders 2

Connecting Platforms

Crossplay is now becoming a standard in multiplayer games. It’s started to connect different platforms together, letting friends on different systems play with each other. As this becomes the norm, a more diverse gameplay environment will be developed.

Play Animal Crossing: New Horizons with your friends, add best friends, and have some co-op fun.

on May 16, 2020 at 3:21PM PDT

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is much better when you have friends to enjoy it with you, but even just figuring out how to play with them can be an issue because of the Nintendo Switch’s online capabilities and friends list. In fact, the game has a separate friends list from the rest of the console that doesn’t automatically sync with it, but we’ve provided everything you need to know to make sure you’re adding all your Switch friends into Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

The first thing you need to do is wait a day after you’ve started your game. At that point, your island’s airport will be operational, and you can start traveling to friends’ islands and accepting visitors to your own. Keep in mind that you need a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to play online with others or access the Animal Crossing features in the NSO mobile app.

Friends vs. Best Friends

New Horizons distinguishes between “friends,” meaning your Nintendo Switch friends, and “Best Friends,” which are friends you add in-game via the Best Friends List app on your NookPhone. To unlock the Best Friends List app, you have to play online with at least one other person (we detail how below).

While you can play with friends and Best Friends in largely the same ways, there are a few differences. Most importantly, Best Friends can use all their tools on your island, while friends aren’t allowed to use destructive tools (shovels and axes).

You can also view whether your Best Friends are online or not via the app and send them in-game messages provided they’re online. You can still view the friends you’ve played with via the same app, but it won’t tell you whether they’re online, and you can’t send them any messages.

How To Add Friends And Best Friends

Once you have access to the Best Friends List app, the only way to add either friends or Best Friends to the app is by playing with them online first. There’s currently no way to import your Nintendo Switch friends list into the in-game app.

Once you’ve played with someone online–either by visiting their island or inviting them to yours–they’ll be added to your in-game friends list in the Best Friends App. From there, you can request to add them as a Best Friend or, if they’ve requested you first, accept their request. We’ve outlined how to play with friends online below.

How To Invite Friends To Your Island

In order to invite friends to your island, you have to speak to Orville at the airport and tell him you want visitors. You have a few options when doing this: You can choose whether to connect to local players or those playing online, and you can allow either all your friends or only your Best Friends to visit. Orville will then open your gates so your friends can come, and when you don’t want visitors anymore, you can ask Orville to close the gates.

You can also choose to invite players via a Dodo Code. Choosing this option will allow you to invite people who aren’t on your friends list at all in addition to friends and Best Friends. Orville will give you a random five-character code, which you can then give to anyone you want to invite (by texting them or whatever method you’d normally use to communicate). This helps you control who comes to your island. The Dodo Code will expire when you close your gates.

How To Visit Friends’ Islands

If you’d rather go to a friend’s island, talk to Orville and instead tell him you’d like to fly and that you want to visit someone. He’ll again ask you to choose between local play and online play, and you can then either search for a friend–to see if anyone on your Switch friends list has opened their gates to friends–or search via a Dodo Code you’ve received from someone else. Like with inviting friends, you’ll need to coordinate using whatever methods you usually use to talk to your friends and make sure their gates are open.

What Can You Do With Friends?

When a friend is visiting or you’re visiting their island, you can simply play Animal Crossing together as you normally would (though you can’t do things like terraform your island while you have company, for example). You can exchange items by dropping them on the ground, trade fruit, visit each other’s stores, and talk to each other’s villagers, among other things.

When you aren’t playing together on one island, you can still communicate with friends in a few ways. You can send messages to Best Friends using the Best Friends List app (as long as they’re online). You can also send letters to any of your friends as long as you’ve played with them online before. You’re limited to two letters per friend per day, but this is a good way to send items to friends if you don’t have time to visit each other’s islands. Finally, you can buy and send friends gifts directly through the Nook Shopping option at the Nook Stop machine in Resident Services–you can even use a special gift card. Both letters and Nook Shopping gifts will arrive in your friend’s mailbox almost immediately, provided they’re connected to the internet.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons News And Guides

You can add and find friends on the Nintendo Switch in a few different ways. Your account must be signed in to one of Nintendo’s only systems in order to add friends. Below are detailed instructions on the different ways to add friends.

To add a friend, go to a player’s page – double tap their icon in the Home Menu or select them with the controller. Scroll down and select Add Friend. Then.

Search with Friend Code

Nintendo’s Friend Code system is back on the Nintendo Switch. These are 12-digit codes that you need to receive from the person you’re searching for. Each code starts with SW-

You can find your friend code on your account’s Profile page or below the options on the Add Friends page.

Search for Local Users

Like with Nintendo’s Miitomo, players can search for other nearby users by tapping the same symbol. This skips the need to enter each other’s friend code. This also makes adding multiple friends at once easier.

Search for Users You Played With

After you’ve played an online multiplayer game you can use this feature to add people you recently played with.

Suggested Friends

If your Nintendo account is linked to smartphone apps like Miitomo or Super Mario Run you’ll see friends from those games that are registered to a Nintendo Switch in this section.

Nintendo is planning on adding other ways for users to find and add friends:

How to add friends on the nintendo switch

One of the most entertaining aspects of a game console is the ability to play with friends. Unfortunately, some major game companies make it difficult to find and add friends to your list of potential multiplayer buddies. If you’re using Nintendo’s Switch to interact with your gaming brethren, here’s how to get your pals onto your friends list, and deal with Nintendo’s dreaded “Friend Code” system.

Link Your Switch to Your Nintendo Account

To add friends to your Switch’s local user account, you’ll have to connect it to your Nintendo account, the one you’ll use to manage things such as purchases, downloads and friend requests.

On the Switch’s homepage, select the System Settings icon. Then, select “Users”, and choose the profile you’d like to associate with your account. Select Link Nintendo Account, and sign in with your Nintendo Account (or create a new one by selecting “Create Account”).

Find Your Friend Code

After you link your Switch’s user profile to your Nintendo account, you’ll be able to add friends. Select your profile in the top-left corner, and tap “Add Friend”. There, under the Sent Friend Requests icon, you’ll see your 12-digit Friend Code.

Add Some Friends

On the “Add Friends” page you’ll be presented with multiple methods by which you can, well, add friends to your Switch’s Friend List.

  • Search With Friend Code: Nintendo’s method of searching for friends manually eschews searches via email in favour of the company’s 12-digit Friend Code. Of course, you’re probably not going to remember your own Friend Code, let alone the dozen numbers associated with a friend’s account, so be sure to get them to send their Friend Codes to you (or write them down) so you can add them manually.
  • Local Users: Did your buddy bring his console over for a quick ARMS match? Selecting “Search for Local Users” will let you find users in your proximity and add them that way.
  • Suggested Friends: The Suggested Friends list will show you other potential friends based on your friends list on your Wii U, 3DS or smartphone app like Nintendo’s Miitomo (all of these should already be associated with your Nintendo account). If you’ve already got friends through those consoles or apps, you can find them there and send friend requests that way.
  • Users You’ve Played With: If you’ve played an online multiplayer match with someone, selecting the “Search For Users You’ve Played With” option will present you with a recent list of users you’ve gone toe-to-toe with.

Keep Your Friend Code in Your Contact Card

While Nintendo’s Friend Code system is a convoluted method by which you can add friends to the Switch, you’ll have to use it for the foreseeable future (or until they get their act together and let you search via email). Until then, you can ease the burden of remembering and sharing that code by storing it somewhere you’ll always be able to find it: Your contact list.

On your smartphone, select your Contacts app and find your contact card. Hit “Edit” and look for the “Add social profile” option. From there, you can add a custom note or custom social profile (just name it “Nintendo” or something) and store your Friend Code there. Whenever you need to share it with someone, just message them your stored friend code from your contact list. Want to make it easier for people to find you? Just store that code in a social media bio, such as on your Twitter account.
