  2. Study the white space of your calendar. How can you schedule more of those four-minute calls or 19-minute meetings? How can you be more accessible to those who might need you? And don’t forget to ensure you schedule downtime or fun activities, too.
  3. Study your sleep. It not only is the restorative process, but it enhances your immune system, which is of the utmost importance. You need to build a consistent sleep routine that helps restore not only your physical being but your mental health, as well.

3. Master prioritization.

As you’re studying your calendar, you must institute the “Do It Now” rule. There’s an old saying: “Ask a busy person to do something for you and you’ll be much more likely to get it done.” It goes beyond that, though.

You have to evaluate your tasks by urgency and importance in order to determine priority. You do this by analyzing the actuality of the situation or event in light of your own personal values, not the urgency perceived by others.

If a task is urgent and important, do it now. If you put off doing something that you can do now, it will take you at least double the time to complete it.

If something is important but not urgent: Plan it, schedule it in your calendar. Give yourself a deadline!

Something that’s urgent but not important: Delegate it. Trust your team to take care of it.

Finally, if something is not urgent and not important, figure out a way to eliminate it. It’s obviously not worth your time.

4. Eliminate distractions.

I’ve got a story that’s extremely applicable to this that stems from the last time I was in a race car. I was given the opportunity to drive around at a real track, in a real race car, with a real professional driver. They had cones set up for us to maneuver around and I kept hitting the cones. My driving instructor told me to stop looking at the cones, to which I replied, “Well, I don’t want to hit the cones.” He told me to look at the road in front of me, focus on where I wanted to go instead of where I didn’t want to go. After that, I didn’t hit a cone.

If you’re focused on the distractions you face, you’re going to put attention and intention on them, eventually receiving the coincidence of the distraction. Pay attention to what you want for yourself and your business. Stay focused and realize that you will hit the cones if you keep staring at them.

5. Use the telephone.

Finally, the last piece of advice for working at home efficiently is that you’ve got to be tough and learn to use the telephone. Do you ever finish your workday feeling like you weren’t able to accomplish everything on your list? You start with a plan, a list, a goal… but by the end of the day, you find your to-do list is even longer.

I get it. Being productive at work can be difficult. Managing your time in ways that are conducive to your productivity is key… but it can sometimes be hard to know where to start.

As a career coach, I’ve helped both young executives working 12-15 hour days, and millennial entrepreneurs with the entire day at their disposal. Despite the differences in their days, both parties struggle with how to effectively structure their time. No matter who you are, you need to be on point with how you manage those 24 hours each day.

Try incorporating these tips to increase that productive flow and work smarter!

1. Stop multitasking

It can be tempting to want to take care of a few tasks at once, especially if they seem small or easy. But it simply doesn’t work. According to neuroscience professor Earl K. Miller, “multitasking is not humanly possible.” We’re fooling ourselves when we say we can easily juggle phone calls, presentations, and eating lunch. Focus on one task at a time, and you’ll actually end up completing it faster.

2. Take breaks

We might think working longer hours means we’re getting more done, but we never work as well when we’re burned out. Studies show taking regular breaks helps concentration and boosts your mood. Take a five-minute walk around the office, or spend 15 minutes grabbing that mid-afternoon coffee.

3. Set small goals

Sometimes, looking at our goals can be overwhelming. Seeing a handful of big projects on our calendar can be stressful… but if you break it up into smaller tasks, you’ll feel more in control and will be much more productive. Rather than write down “finish project,” break that into all the tasks it will take. This will keep you on track in your day-to-day and make the bigger projects seem less daunting.

4. Take care of the biggest tasks when you’re most alert

We all sometimes push aside big goals because we’re not confident we’ll accomplish them… And by the time we get to them, we’re too burned out from our day to give it the attention it needs. That’s how projects end up bleeding into additional days, and making it feel like productivity has disappeared.

Understanding when and how you work best is key to getting those big projects done on time. There’s no set schedule that works for everyone… if you’re a morning person, tackle the big tasks first thing in your day.

5. Implement the “two-minute rule”

Make the most of your time at work by filling those tiny windows with actual tasks. According to entrepreneur Steve Olenski, finding and immediately completing tasks that take two minutes or less actually saves you time. So, if it takes less than two minutes, do it now.

The other aspect of the two-minute rule is that any goal or habit can be started in under two minutes. This doesn’t mean you’ll be able to complete every task in 120 seconds, but starting new goals is the first step to accomplishing them!

Not every day will be perfectly productive; don’t beat yourself up over it. Instead, refocus your energy and implement these tips. Once you find the sweet spot that works for you, you’ll be amazed at how much more you can get done both in and out of the office.

Many entrepreneurs are wondering how they can ensure that they are helping their team get through this difficult time and continue to get good results.

The home office becomes a space necessary to have in every home

Working from home at the same time brought a lot of benefits for each of us. It’s all about each person’s mentality and how they perceive what’s going on. For some it was easier, others had to completely reinvent themselves, starting from the way they arrange the space of their house, to the total redecoration of it, to serve the needs of daily activities.

Some retired to a separate room in search of peace and space, others, having no other choice, took control of a corner of the room which they named their “home office.” Some had to change their work schedule, others sighed for a while after the office work old days.

On the other hand, you need a minimum of space to be able to deploy and you need to make sure you have enough light during the day. Sometimes without realizing it, the comfort of the improvised office can significantly influence the quality of our work.

It is recommended that you position the monitor at a 90 ° angle to the window to avoid light reflection, while protecting your eyes. When you work from home, it is very easy to be distracted. Thus, it is important to minimize these distractions as much as possible. This means that everything that does not belong to your home office must disappear.

Boundary between personal and professional life is being diluted

One of the biggest disadvantages is that the line between work and private life is slowly disappearing. And people are starting to feel this change over time. First, a large number of employees working from home are isolated in their homes with family members (including children in the context of online schools) who would have been otherwise at work or in school, as per the case.

Thus, keeping our focus becomes a problem when family situations arise at every step. This will significantly influence our work’s quality. Children need attention, help with various things, especially if they are small. Also, the preparation of daily meals becomes a serious problem for some of us. We have to spend significant time cooking them, and sourcing ingredients also becomes a serious problem.

In addition, social interaction decreases, and over time people no longer feel that they belong to a group.
