All of these are just distractions and sometimes will make you lose that flow. To avoid distractions, I added Simple Blocker to my browser as an extension.

Simple Blocker allows you to block a particular URL for sometime after which it will resume once the session is over. You can use this tool to put off your distractions.

Put kids away if you are a mom blogger: For mom bloggers, we all agree that your top source distractions are your kids.

Have a Plan for Content

In the blogosphere, content is king.

While the type of content you create is dependent on the type of blogger you are, your level of productivity hinges on how well you plan your content.

This plan should directly tie into the goals you hope to achieve.

If you are a blogger that hopes to bring in more money with affiliate links, you should plan to create posts that are designed to improve customer success with those links.

If you hope to launch products, you should create posts that establish you as an authority
with the particular audience that you are making products for.

The more you tailor your
plan and content to meet your goals, the sooner you’ll learn how to be more productive.

Check Social Media Less Frequently

There’s a time and a place to check social media and emails. The key to you reaching your maximum levels of productivity is finding that time and sticking to it.

Choose a specific time to use social media and check your emails. Whether it’s half an hour or an hour, after that limit is reached, it’s time to do other things.

As notifications are designed to remind users of what’s going on with their various apps, it’s a good idea for bloggers to have these silenced as they work. Though it’s difficult to
go fully into airplane mode, finding a way to limit these distractions is a must.

Stop Multitasking

While it isn’t uncommon for people to view multitasking as a sign of productivity, this is
an inaccurate way of thinking.

Multitasking robs you of one precious thing: your focus.

Instead of dedicating your time and energy to one thing, you spread yourself thin jumping between different projects.

This multitasking mindset effectively limits the level of focus you have, forcing you to
take longer to get the same level of work done and limiting your customer success.

Every time you switch between projects, your brain will spend more time readjusting and warming up to what you’re working on.

Even if you have a to-do list that’s longer than your last blog, focusing on one thing at a time is the best way to ensure your work gets done in an efficient manner.

We all have the same 24 hours in a day. As a blogger, you need to make sure you’re

So, today I wanted to talk about productivity. In this crazy blogging world, productivity & using your time wisely is the KEY to success, & also realllly difficult.

You are at home, there are 900000 distractions, & getting sidetracked to clean the house/play with the dog/or get lost on Buzzfeed for 5 hours is a daily thing (atleast for me?). I have noticed lately my productivity has been a bit lackluster, so I wanted to write this post for you… but selfishly, for me too.

I have been implementing the below tips for the past week & have been in a total GSD (get shit done) mode. It’s crazy how the smallest changes can make the biggest differences. Read on for my personal 10 tips to becoming a more productive blogger & if you have any tips to share or apps I should be using- please let me know!!

1. Create a schedule & stick to it:

Have a routine for your day, & try to not to stray. Structure is king! If you need to write it out, write it out. For me, I wake up & make a smoothie. This is non-negotiable. Next, I check my phone & clean up my junk emails before I even sit down at my computer. Then I go to my desk (but sometimes the couch, which is a BAD habit I am trying to break) & tackle my inbox. Next I do all of the social promotion for my post that day (which I typically had published the night before). After that’s done, I get ready for the day & go to any errands/appointments. Depending on the day, I will go to my trainer & end the day with dinner and working on the next days post. Rinse, repeat.

2. Sweat it Out:

I am not a fitness aficionado, but as seen above, my trainer is an integral part of my day. Sweating is scientifically proven to be good for your productivity levels & I can attest to that. I used to never work out, but now it’s the highlight of my day. After I get in a good sweat sesh I am SO motivated & I never work better or more efficiently. Plus, it’s a great break from the social world we live in! Even if it’s just taking the dog on an hour walk, DO IT. Trust me, your work will thank you.

3. Work in bulk:

I set one to two days a week to really work in bulk. If I have DIY projects to do, I do them all in one day. The house is a disaster afterwards & my computer was fully neglected, but I get it done, clean up, & have my content ready for the week. If I am doing photos, I block off two hours of time with my photog & shoot 4-5 looks. BOOM. It took up a chunk of my day (getting ready, transportation, etc.) but it’s done & that feels damn good.

4. Your calendar/planner is your boss, best friend, & bible:

I have a calendar on my phone (will tell you about my apps in a minute) that I use to schedule all of my daily appointments and I also have a planner to schedule all my posts. I suggest having both. The calendar is great, but writing down your planned content is KEY. I write down the post at hand, the social tags to use, & all of the requirements needed for the post. Having a cute planner doesn’t hurt either, I just got this one from Jot it Down & it’s seriously the cutest thing ever. Check out there whole line of office products, they are to-die-for.

5. AVOID multi-tasking:

Women LOVE to multi-task, but in this blog world, it’s doing you more harm then good. Focus on the deep & narrow. Multi-tasking leads to busy work & busy work is a distraction. Sit down, turn off anything that distracts you, & get sucked into the job at hand. This one is REALLY hard for me, but it is also the best thing for my productivity levels. Not only will you get one thing done faster, but the quality of that one thing will also be a lot better.

6. Do less, Plan more:

Plan, plan, & plan some more. You can go at things without a plan, but it will only eat up your time. On Sunday’s I sit and make a VERY detailed plan for the week. So, when each day hits, I already know exactly what I need to do without having to figure it out day of. If I have a DIY project due in two weeks, that week I have a plan already set with that project in mind. If I didn’t plan, I’d be scrambling to get everything done last minute & it would interfere with other things that also need to be done. Spend your time wisely by STRATEGIZING smartly.

7. Priorities > Time:

People always talk about time management, but I am more about priority management. I use Notes on my Macbook to write out all my upcoming posts & I put them in priority order. Everyone has the same amount of hours in a day, & the most succesful bloggers use that time efficiently by prioritizing!

18. Learn to say NO:

Be realistic about your time & learn to just say NO. The worst thing you can do is take on too much & dilute your work. Quality content is everything, & if you have too much on your plate, you won’t be doing anything at full force. YES, you want to help your friends cousins sister get her organic dog food line up & running, but you are running a business here & you have to (again) keep your priorities in line. Saying NO is powerful, as long as your nice about it.

9. Take a day off.

I can stress this one enough, you need a break! I am also not great at this, but when I do take a day off I am so refreshed & renewed. I try to take Saturday’s off each week to just do NOTHING. I barely even Instagram or Snapchat on Saturdays. If I want to stay in bed watching stupid Lifetime movies all day, I do it. If I want to have an extra Bloody Mary at brunch, I do it. Basically, if you want to hang out with me, call me on a Saturday (if I didn’t leave my phone at home!).

10. LASTLY, utilize apps to increase productivity:

Thank goodness for the world we live in, because there are so many apps at our fingertips (literally) that do wonders for our productivity levels. My personal favorite apps are:

» Awesome Note: this is my to-do list app & it’s literally my lifeline. It let’s your organize by tabs, customize with colors/icons, & has notes integrated. If I could only choose one app on my phone, this would be it.

» Calendars Plus: There are tons of calendar apps out there, & I am sure they all work great, but for whatever reason this one is my favorite. It honestly doesn’t matter which one you use, as long as you use one!

» WhenToGram: I just got this app & I LOVE IT. It analyzes my past Instagram posts & breaks it down by day the 3 best times to post. It really works, & it’s amazing.

» Buffer: If you are really swamped for time, Buffer let’s you schedule out all of your social posts across the board. This is great for the blogger who hasn’t taken the leap into full time blogging & still works a 9-5 job or for the Mom’s out there who really have zero time (props!!).

» LaterGram: Same as the above, but for INSTAGRAM!

When you’re a blogger there are a lot of things that you have to do. Blogging can mean that you are a writer, a photographer, editor, SEO expert, and digital marketeer all at once.

And because there are a lot of aspects to it, it can be a little more complicated than people might first imagine. You don’t realise just how much of your time it can take, being a productive blogger is really needed

Then there can be times when you might suffer from writer’s block or just generally lack motivation. One of the biggest thing that can be a problem for bloggers though, is a lack of productivity. You might aim to research something online but then hours have passed and you’ve got nothing written down. When you’re not productive, then it can feel like your blog is taking over and that the work keeps piling up around you.

This can be a problem for most people that work from home. So with that in mind, here are some of the things that can help you to become a much more productive blogger. When you’re productive, you feel less stressed, less overwhelmed, and in control of what you are doing.

1. Create Interesting Content

It’s that saying you hear over & over, content is key. If you don’t have great content then you won’t be getting the blog views you want achieve, then no matter how productive you are that blog just won’t get seen.

Think about your niche & want they would likely be interested in. If it’s fashion & style for example, would celebrity style bring in those readers or would you rather solve fashion issues such as how to style certain outfits. In order to be productive you need to work smarter not harder & focus on what will give you the best results.

2. Use Striking Images

While the content you create is the most crucial part of your blog, images are what we tend to fall for. Striking images & visuals are absolutely key to attracting those readers, then your content should keep them engaged.

You may choose to take your own images or opt for free stock images, I show you 20 of the best free stock photo sites here. But images are not the only thing, it’s what you do with those images of.

Social media is huge when it comes to drawing trafffic, Pinterest in particular is a huge source of traffic to my site so I love to create really engaging banners, Pinterest pins etc. For example if I’m looking for bannner designs then I could search for a banner svg or even some seasonal content around autumn & Halloween then I might search for a fall svg like the one below to add some funky designs to my images. I love that you can use these for so many different crafts, not just for my blog.

3. Avoid Distractions

The thing with blogging is that social media is part and parcel of the job. But that, along with plenty of other things can really be a distraction that can hinder how productive you can be. So you need to put some plans or strategies in place to make sure that you are able to work productively and efficiently.

Deleting apps or turning off notifications is something that works well for people, as well as not having emails logged in at the same time as they can be a distraction to keep checking. If you are going to be online for something, like posting a sponsored Instagram image, then give yourself ten minutes to do so, and then turn it all off after that. Setting time limits and alarms for when to stop can help too, otherwise you can waste time quite quickly.

4. Source A Virtual Assistant

If you are earning from your blog, and you want to be more productive and take things to the next level, then it can be a good idea to look into getting a virtual assistant. Of course, there is a cost involved with that. But it can free up more of your time to do the bigger things that will grow your blog, so it can be really worth it. Alongside this, you could look for things like document automation online to get the things that you need done quickly. This could help your productivity and allow you to turn the blog into a bigger business.

5. Goals & Schedules

Blogging, and if you want to take it to the next level, is a job like any other and needs to be seen as that. So although the flexibility that it offers is great, you do need to make a plan, set goals, and schedule your time. You will know what you are doing and when, and can be much more productive when you know you only have a set amount of time to do something.

Whether you’re a businessperson, a student, a parent, or the President of the United States, your time is valuable. That being said, we humans are addicted to procrastination.
It feels so good, but we always end up regretting it. We hang onto an uncompleted task and worry about it so much that we lose the willpower to actually get up and finish it. Let’s face it: procrastination makes an easy task seem so hard, and it needs to stop.

The following clever tips will help you combat procrastination and become the most productive person on the block.

Wake up early every morning.

Did you know that waking up at the same time every morning makes you less tired? Waking up early every morning not only gives you extra time to check things off your “to do” list, but also stabilizes your circadian rhythm (in other words, your body clock).

By waking up at 6:00 am every morning (even on the weekends), you’ll have enough energy to get more stuff done, because you won’t be struck with fatigue when you least expect it.

Beat the clock.

Have you ever heard of the Pomodoro technique? It’s a process where you schedule short increments throughout the day to refuel yourself during a project. Set a timer for 25 minutes and do the task with full concentration. When those 25 minutes are up, give yourself a 5-minute break. Repeat until the project’s over. You can turn this into a race against the clock.

Focus on the core of your project.

If you’re a busy person, you might have a hard time prioritizing your tasks. When a new task comes your way, ask yourself this question: “Will this have a direct impact on my goals?” If the answer is no, delegate the task to someone else.

Follow the 5-minute rule.

This is so ridiculously easy that it’s quite surprising that not enough people do this. If you come across a task that takes 5 minutes or less to complete, do it right away. Get it over with. It’ll take only a few minutes, and you won’t have to worry about it ever again. This rule usually applies to answering emails, washing dishes, and doing laundry.

Hate it most? Do it first.

Has your mother ever told you to eat your broccoli first? If she has, then she’s probably the wisest woman ever. Hurdling over the most dreaded task first thing in the morning frees you from stress and leaves you to do things that aren’t as daunting.

Voice your commitments.

It’s much harder to break a promise if you have someone holding you accountable. Find a friend and tell him what you’re planning to accomplish. Having someone observe your process is going to make you more inclined to complete the task faster.

Relax.

Believe it or not, but relaxation is really the key to productivity. The body sleeps in 90-minute cycles, and it actually applies to your waking life as well. You need to take a break every 90 minutes.

If you ignore your body and down another cup of coffee, your performance will decrease. So whenever you find yourself tapping into your energy reserves, stop working and relax. Take a nap. Close your eyes and listen to music. Watch some TV. Basically, just relax. It’s good for you.

By optimization, I don’t mean to do creativity around the walls and place to sit. I mean find a place in your home where you get most active and influential ideas. Create a separate space away from TV, fridge, and areas that cause some sense of distraction. Your work area should only consist of major things of use like Computer, Chair, Table and Proper Light.

Also, you can switch place to write by spending time with like-minded people or join them while you work. Remember! Keep minimal applications into your computer and limited access to the internet. By limited access, I mean to block some websites for a fixed interval of time to prevent from unnecessary surfing.

Make Batches to Bring Productivity

There are so many things to do when you are associated with a promotion blog page. You will have to spend time for promotional events, website management and much more to do. Since there are many mentions on your target list, divide them into batches. Place each task among the time slot which suits the nature of work. For example, if you have planning to write a blog, put that among your morning slot as the most productive hours of the day. You cannot only generate fresh idea during the dawn but accomplish writing in a peaceful environment.

Another advantage of working in batches is you can always remain energetic for the task. The task has come after a roundabout of a day and now can show your highest potential for its completion.

Fresh and Innovative Ideas are just a Sleep Away

If you heed attention to your complete day, there are times when you are most energetic to perform but other time, you feel like taking a nap or sneak peek into the out world. Reason being the human body is designed to work for some hours and then rest. There is a limit to the amount of work done by human being. If you think about leading people around the globe are working non-stop each day to attain success, then you are wrong. There would be some power breaks or down time to refill their energy.

The Bottom Line

Surely, you can extend the working hours by downing cups of coffee or listen to music, but your mind is already losing concentration and ability to rationalize. So, take a shift from your chair and give rest to your thoughts and bring back more amount of energy.

Now, get up, get dressed well, make a cup of tea, and sit down before the screen and notice your productivity skyrocket very soon.

I used to do most of my blog related work from my bed or my couch. While that was comfortable I found it to be very unproductive. I would start getting too comfortable and start browsing my social profiles or even take a nap.

Since I moved into my house I now have specific areas I’ve designated as workspaces – my kitchen island, dining room table and also my office. I find when I’m sitting at the desk in my office I get more done in an hour than I do in two while sitting on my bed.

Eliminate distractions

As noted above I sometimes get distracted by social media when doing blog work. So I try to keep my mobile devices in another room or another part of the room. Plus I don’t have any of my social profiles open in my browser unless I’m posting on them or engaging with other bloggers.
