When you first set up your iPhone, Apple gives it a generic, default name. This becomes its identity when you use AirDrop, pair to Bluetooth devices, or connect to a hotspot. If you’d prefer something else, though, you can change your iPhone’s name in iOS.

If you recently reset your phone’s settings, its name might just be “iPhone.” However, there’s an option in the “Settings” app to change your iPhone’s name to anything you want.

To do so, open the “Settings” app on your iPhone and tap “General.” You can also use Apple’s built-in Spotlight Search to locate “Settings” if you can’t find it on your device’s Home screen.

How to change your apple iphone’s name

If you’re wondering how to change Apple ID on iPhone, then you’ve come to the right place. We’re going to show you how to change it in three easy steps. Follow these steps and you’ll have a new identity every time!

How to change Apple ID on iPhone – step one

In the first step, let’s look at changing your username. This is the central step of this how-to change apple id on the iPhone guide. In order to access your personal account settings, you type your username and you’ll be prompted for a password. You can change your username by tapping on “uid” and then choosing “Change User.” Type a new username and hit return.

The second step is to enter a verification code. This verification code is a small number that you input when you sign up for an account on the iPhone. This lets the system know that you are who you say you are, so it can update your security settings when it knows you want to change your Apple id on your iPhone.

The next thing we’re going to do is sign out of everything on your iPhone. On your computer, go to the start menu at the bottom left and then tap on Settings. Tap General and then tap on Add Account. Type your username and hit return.

Finally, type in your password and then hit on Save. You should see a preview of your changes in the General Settings Applet just like when you signed in to your account. If your password is changed, your screen will display the lock symbol. That’s it – you’ve successfully changed your Apple ID on your iPhone!

This process may take a few minutes, but if you are dedicated and don’t mind waiting, you’ll be done by the time your clock reads 12:00. When your timer hits one head, hit sign and you’ll be prompted again to sign in. That’s all there is to it.

In conclusion, if you want to change your Apple ID on iPhone, it is very easy. It may seem complicated at first, but you’ll soon see why it’s so simple – it just takes 1 go. No need to be a hacker or take out anyone’s wallet, all you have to do is follow these simple steps. If you’re not running iOS v5, you won’t be able to change your user ID directly on your mobile device, but it’s certainly a possibility that you’ll be able to do it then.

How to change your apple iphone’s name

The first step is to find your user ID on your phone. Tap “uid” on the upper right-hand corner of your screen. You can then browse to it and hit “save.” You’ll now be able to see this on your phone instead of the lock symbol. If you are running ios 10.2 (on an iPhone), you’ll have to hit the home button twice before entering your username and password.

The next step is to find the “Settings” app on your phone. Simply touch the “Settings” icon on the general tab of your device. Now, touch the section where you will change your user ID name. This is done with the word “uid” only, and on the very last step before you hit “save,” you’ll be prompted to enter your password.

There are a number of reasons why people want to change their user names on their iPhones. You could be moving from one carrier to another, or you might have forgotten your real user name. With these two simple steps, however, you’ll quickly see that you’re now able to use your real user name when logging on to the apple portal! This means that switching between carriers won’t be necessary – you can just login as “ydia,” and any of the available numbers will change to your new one. This means that you’ll never have to enter a new ID again, and you’ll always have your old one with you.

However, if you’d like to change your apple id more frequently, you can do so through the Settings app on your device. Open the app, then touch “Settings.” You’ll see a row of three lines. Your current user name will be one of those lines; the one with the “uid” key in it, and your password will be the last line. Click “Change” next to your user name and password, and your ID will change every time you log on to your phone.

If you’d like a simpler way to change your user name and password on your iPhone, there is a third option for doing so. You can do this by going into General Settings and selecting “Passcode Set” from the list of options. Here, you’ll see a series of four numbers. Click “Change” next to each number, and your ID will change immediately. Changing your password on your iPhone is as easy as clicking a button!

I renamed my iPhone 8 Plus in iTunes and under the about section of general in settings. But in my Apple ID section in settings, the phone is still called “MarieM’s iPhone 6” then the second line says “This iPhone 8 Plus.” How can I eliminate the part about my iPhone 6 and just have it say “Marie M’s iphond 8 Plus?” I transferred the content from my 6 to my 8 with the normal set up process/iCloud transfer.

Thanks for asking the Apple Support Communities about renaming your device. If you changed your device name, then restored the data, the name came from the backup. I recommend changing the name again now that the data transfer is complete. This article will help: Change the name of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod – Apple Support

If you just changed the name or it was changed after the data was restored, I recommend forcing the Settings app to close: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When you reopen Settings, the name should be updated.

Another possibility is that iCloud has not updated the name yet. Since you just renamed it, you will need to sign out of iCloud, and then sign back in. Before signing out of iCloud, I recommend having a backup of your data. You can make a backup in iCloud or iTunes using this article: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Once you have your backup, you can sign out of iCloud on your device. You may receive an alert about specific items from iCloud being removed from your device, but once you log back in, these items will repopulate. Once you sign back in, the name should be updated across iCloud and your device. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

If your phone has decided to call itself “iPhone” instead of “[Name]’s iPhone,” that doesn’t really seem like a problem, right? And it isn’t—until you can’t find it and you’re having to shuffle through approximately thirty poorly named devices on the Find My iPhone app or on iCloud.com to try to find its location.

How to change your apple iphone’s nameYuck. Let’s make that better! On the Mac, the place you’ll change that setting is within System Preferences > Sharing .

At the top of that pane, there’s a box for you to type in.

Then to change this on the iPhone or iPad, visit Settings > General > About . You can edit your device’s name at the very top (and while you’re there, you can also see all sorts of stats about what’s taking up your space!).

Anyway, once you update that info, iCloud.com (and the Find My iPhone app) should reflect the change within a few minutes.

Ah, that’s much better! I mean, I don’t have a ton of devices myself, but I have seen families with ten or fifteen items clogging up this list. Trying to discern which one was missing if they all had generic names would be…less than ideal. Let’s put it that way.

Have an Apple product but don't like the name it came with? You can rename your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch with just a few clicks or taps. Here's how.

How to change your apple iphone’s name

You’ve got an iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch, and it’s working fine. There’s just one problem. The name. Your device may sport a generic name bestowed upon it when you first set it up. Or it may have had a previous owner and is still hanging onto that person’s name.

If more than one iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch has a home among your family members, you’ll also want to give each one its own unique name.

Or maybe you want a more generic moniker that won’t identify you via AirDrop to other surrounding iOS owners.

Whatever the reason, you’re not stuck with the existing name. You can change it to something more specific and more personal. You can change the name of your iPhone or iPad through iTunes or on the device itself. And you can change the name of your Apple Watch via the Watch app on your iPhone. Let’s go through the steps for renaming your Apple gadget.

How can I change the name that is displayed on emails that I send from my Apple Mail account?

I’m not talking about changing my email address. I’m talking about the name that appears greyed out in the Mail preferences “Full Name” field.

I have already changed the name in my icloud account in the “Manage My Apple ID,” yet, there is no change.

Thanks in advance.

Figured this one out. So in case anyone else is wondering, this is the solution:

In Mail, go to preferences. Select the account in question. Select the Account Information tab. Click the Alias popup, and select Custom. Now the Full Name field should no longer be greyed out, and you should be able to edit it.

I’m stil having a problem. I’ve added the fields, but in one case one of my friends names was originally added to Gmail as Amy & Irving. I updated it to be first name of just Amy and then listed the spouse as Irving. Oddly enough when this updates I can see the correct name Amy Last Name, however, when I click to edit I see the original names Amy & Irving and note that in Messages what continues to show us is Amy & Irving.

When I try to delete the Amy & Irving which only show up when I click on edit I find that the Amy & Irving is greyed out. I have enabled all the name formats and this is still the case.

It’s as if the messages saved with that name won’t allow it to update.

(I have the same problem. hansolo415, did you resolve this? If so could you let me know how, please? If not, could others who have any ideas of how to resolve this weigh in here? Thanks!!)

Not sure whether this will help anyone, but . . . Even though my name appeared as desired [my nickname] in my PDP account setting (under Preferences > Accounts), emails were coming through as being from [my full name]. I finally changed my name in my iCloud account setting (via the Alias popup and Custom settings) and now email is being sent from [my nickname] as desired.

Open your contacts list and update the name associated to that email address.
