You may not catch onto these things at first, but while you’re planning for the life of your dreams, you are subconsciously doing things that are you keeping you in the same place. You’re not growing or progressing because of them, so it’s prime time to nix them to get to where you want to be.

Many times, being an adult seems like you can’t catch a break. You always have to focus on what needs to get done and who you have to get things done for. But if you aren’t catering to yourself and making adjustments so that your #lifegoals start making an appearance, then you’re aimlessly overworking yourself. The life you deserve isn’t as abstract as you think it is, and once you ditch these 12 things, you’ll really start to see the bigger picture.

1. Blaming Your Situation On Circumstances

Your circumstances are temporary. The sooner you stop letting any of them weigh you down, you’ll gain the freedom to accomplish anything you set your mind to. The blame game isn’t going to get you anywhere fast.

2. Doubting Yourself

Self-doubt is so poisonous. If no one told you today, you are so freaking awesome and your dreams are never too big to obtain. Be your own cheerleader, and don’t let any little negative voice in your head distract you.

3. Letting The Idea Of Time Intimidate You

Tick tock, why aren’t you your own boss yet? You have to stop letting the idea of a ticking clock manipulate what you should be doing and who you should be. Growth and excelling happen at different paces for everyone. Finding your soulmate or getting that dream job will come, but that’s also not an excuse to sit around and wait for something to happen. It doesn’t work like that, girl.

4. Catering To A Toxic Friend Who Doesn’t Deserve You

A friend shouldn’t drain you of your energy and good vibes. A toxic friend will use you for all that you have, and keep asking you for more. Cut those people out of your life as soon as possible, and stick to the friends who make you feel happy and appreciated.

5. Trying To Replicate Someone Else’s Success

We live in the days of going viral and gaining instantaneous success from something so simple. Sure, that’s awesome that it worked for some people, but that doesn’t mean your success has to parallel with what others did. Let your success be unique and full of all of the things you know and love. It will be so much more worth it then.

6. Dwelling On Past Mistakes

The past needs to stay buried in the past. You can’t change it, and dwelling over it doesn’t allow you to be present. Learn from your mistakes, and they can never hurt you again.

7. Thinking That The Grass Is Greener On The Other Side

By believing the grass is greener on the other side, you are instilling all of your hopes into the unknown. You aren’t being present in the now, and appreciating everything you do have. There’s no way the grass will be greener on the other side if you’re always thinking about the next patch, even when you get there.

8. Putting Someone’s Happiness Before Your Own

Its not selfish to place your own happiness on a pedestal. You deserve to smile and feel joy as much as you’d like. Witnessing and providing happiness are not the same as feeling it for yourself.

9. Entertaining Drama

Drama can turn into a part-time job if you let it take over your life. Stay focused on yourself, and don’t even participate in negative gossip. You want drama? Watch a reality TV show. That’s what they’re there for.

10. Having Expectations In A Relationship

When it comes to relationships, it’s OK to go with the flow of things before you start having expectations. This will only get your hopes up, and if things don’t work out, you’ll likely take it so much harder. Sometimes the best things happen when you let them unfold naturally.

11. Never Having Any Alone Time

You’d be surprised how clear and concise your thoughts are when you dedicate an hour or whole day to yourself. You don’t need to go out all of the time and keep up with social circles when you want to recharge. “Me time” is your time to create a master plan of action or unwind from life’s daily stresses.

12. Trying To Live Up To Someone Else’s Expectations

You don’t have it in you to let the people you care about down, but you can’t let someone else’s expectations for you deter you from what you really want. You are in control of who you want to be. You can’t live the life you deserve when you’re following a map someone else drew for you.

The life you deserve doesn’t have to remain in those dreams you have every night. Open your eyes, ditch the unnecessary, and seize the day.

Making life changes to improve the quality of your life can be amazing but where do you start? Sure you can start taking a multivitamin or give up soda but let’s be real here: those things are beneficial but not enough to make a real impact. Lucky for you, you’re already on the right track by educating yourself on the matter.

Let’s start with the basics: your health. This one is without a doubt one of the most difficult to fully grasp. Our eating and health habits are ingrained in our psyche from very early on so it’s not surprising that changing those habits is going to be quite the challenge.

Take this tip to heart: start small! The last thing you want to do is overwhelm yourself with drastic changes, you’re only setting yourself up for failure. Changing too much at the drop of a dime is the main reason most people fail on diets so let’s avoid that. If you take baby steps, you will almost always see much better results.

Start by cutting out a few unhealthy behaviors but don’t stop all of them at once. Let’s say you are an overweight smoker and you want to better yourself. Make a decision: are you going to work on your weight problem first or quit smoking? The choice is yours in the end but it is recommended to quit smoking first. You may gain a few pounds in the process but you already have a weight issue anyway so it doesn’t really matter.

Once you can commit to that major change, you’ll be in a stronger position to tackle the weight problem. If you were to start with weight loss first instead, you’ll risk losing the weight then gaining it back from quitting smoking and no one wants that! Generally speaking: avoid fast food, cook at home more often than not using real, unprocessed foods, join a gym and find the exercise routine that fits you best, and try to stay as active as possible.

Now let’s discuss your environment and the people you surround yourself with. I firmly believe that everyone is very much influenced, both negatively and positively, by the people in their life. We’ve all had an experience with a toxic person, or persons, that have screwed up our lives in one way or another: get rid of those people!

Electronics have been found to inhibit our ability to have a happy, wholesome life because of how addicting they are. Sure we live in a digital world but limiting time spent online will benefit you much more than you think. No more Facebook arguments or getting fired up about politics: you have to look out for yourself now, not everyone else.

Don’t just think positive, be positive. Now, I’m certainly not saying to walk around with your head in the clouds, ignoring any problems that are present because that’s denial and can have some seriously negative mental effects. Instead, see the brighter side of things, handle any life problems in a rational manner and stay strong: you can do this!

In the end, it’s purely up to you to ensure your own happiness. Mind your health, get rid of negative influences, go out and enjoy the world, and for goodness sake always remember to smile. You are going to live life to the fullest, that’s always something to smile about!

Debi Waldeck continues her informative and fascinating “In the Beginning. there was wellness” series with this second volume, Forever Young and Vibrant, and it is just as interesting and useful as the first volume.

After telling her personal story in the first book of her and her children’s health issues, Debi uses this second book to talk less about the biology and nutritional needs of our bodies and more about how we can reach optimal health by changing our lifestyle and what we can do to improve the process of giving our bodies what they actually need.

In “Forever Young and Vibrant,” Debi Waldeck discusses the current lifestyle of Americans, particularly poor nutritional practices, that are leading to cancer, migraine headaches, stomach complaints, and other ailments. Debi offers practical advice and information from cutting edge research on whether to supplement our diets with additional vitamins-the recommended daily allowances are far lower than what would give us desired wellness in her opinion. She discusses fats, trans-fats, radical agents, the importance of our pH balance, how our body creates insulin, and why we must love our livers. The information provided goes far beyond simple dieting and nutrition to make us understand how our bodies work in relation to what we eat. In some respects, the research on the effects of our current nutrition is frightening, but by following Debi Waldeck’s advice, we can improve our diets, strengthen our immune systems, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.

I can’t imagine any reader will not take away something of value from this book. I learned enormous amounts of information about diet. I had already heard about the value of understanding the body’s pH, but Waldeck goes into great detail about how to stabilize pH values and what foods create acid or alkaline responses in our bodies. After years of suffering from stomach complaints, I found the chapter on pH alone is worth ten times the book’s cover price. Anyone with a family history of diabetes, cancer or even obesity will find information here that can improve if not prolong or even save his or her life.

As with all the books in this series, Debi also includes several practical tips for the reader in her “Laughter, Lifestyle or Leverage Principles.” These principles are summaries in one sentence of what to remember from her discussion. A few of my favorites include:

Eat 75% foods that are alkaline and only 25% that are acid forming-unless you supplement heavily with minerals and greens

Motivation comes when the pain of your current situation is greater than the pain of changing it

These are just a few examples from this second volume, but all the principles in all the books contain wonderful advice.

Debi Waldeck also ends each chapter of each book with the “Debi’s Dialogue” section-a section that was inspired by her never-ending quest for answers to her questions. In this section she provides answers to some of her questions while also asking new ones. Here is one of my favorites examples of “Debi’s Dialogue” from the second book:

Why do we resist change?
As Marianne Williamson said, “We are afraid of our own power.”
Why?
Because change gives you an opportunity to know yourself and people are afraid to see themselves.
Why?
Because people see themselves through the eyes of all who have come before and judged them. People do not look at themselves through God’s eyes. If they did, they would stare all day long.
Why?
Because people do not know God. Very few people know God.
How can we come to know God?
You start to know God when you learn to love yourself. To know God means you choose to love yourself exactly the way you are now-male, female, black, white, yellow, red, fat, skinny, ugly, pretty. The problem is that people seek man’s approval before and above God’s approval.
Why?
Because people have no faith. Faith is the opposite of fear. People are in fear and the cycle begins again.
Okay, everyone knows that faith is not fear. We know what it isn’t, so what is faith?

Finally, in all three books, including this volume, Debi Waldeck includes a concise glossary of every term she uses in that individual book. In “Forever Young and Vibrant,” the glossary includes terms ranging from Fructo-oligosaccharides to Methionine to Serotonin. If you don’t know what these terms mean, you need to. This book will help you achieve the wellness that should have always been yours. Remember that knowledge is power. This book will be your start to knowing legitimately, rather than using some fad diet, how to improve your health for the long run.

In this review, I can only just begin to summarize the many valuable discussions provided in “Forever Young and Vibrant” in the “In the Beginning. there was wellness” series. If you find yourself struggling with self-love or you want to learn how to love yourself better, you are at the right place here! And I think that even if you don’t really struggle with this, it can be nice to read this.

Just like everybody else, you deserve to love yourself. Loving yourself is one of the most important parts of your life. It comes in so many different ways. It’s believing you are beautiful, embracing your imperfections, taking care of yourself, believing in your abilities and talents…the list goes on and on.

Before I get into it, I want to say that self-love includes so, so many things. And I won’t talk about everything today. I will talk about them in different posts. Today I’m starting with some basics, I guess you could say. So let’s begin!

Self-love is something that everybody is faced to in life. For some people, it is easier to love themselves. It could be that they are narcissistic. But everyone that loves themselves is definitely not narcissistic! Only a few people are. There could be different reasons why someone finds it quite easy. I definitely don’t know all the reasons, but I can imagine one or two. Maybe they have always been told good things about them and maybe they received a lot of compliments, because that helps a lot. But maybe they just learned to love themselves.

And you know what? You can learn that too, learn to love yourself. So if you find yourself struggling a little bit with this, I’m here to help you. Just know that you will not learn to love yourself in one day and the next one you’ll be super confident. That’s not how it works. It is a process, an everyday process. Even a life process. Because self-love is a part of life and it is amazing to feel loved by yourself.

It could be that you have not always been told good things about you, maybe you had a difficult childhood, maybe you didn’t have many friends at school or you might even have experienced bullying. Maybe none of these things happened to you, but you just find it hard to love yourself. And it’s okay. Because there are a lot of people in this situation. So we can all help each other, it really doesn’t take much. We can compliment people, it can change someone’s life. We can post a nice quote about self-love on our social media for people to be reminded

But the most powerful way, is to learn to love ourselves first to inspire others to do too.

There are many other ways and my way today is writing about it.

One of the basics of self-love is: Treat yourself like you treat your loved ones. Chances are, you treat other people good, you take good care of them and you love them. Congratulations, you are a good person. Now, what you need to do, is treat yourself the same way you treat them. Take care of yourself the same way you take care of them. Love yourself the same way you love them. You are not selfish, I promise.

Okay, let’s start with three simple little exercises you can do, to improve in self-love.

Do you sometimes buy a gift for your mom or for a friend?

Well today, why wouldn’t you buy yourself a gift?
Buy yourself flowers or chocolate for example.

Do you give people compliments? For example about their hair or what they are wearing?

Well today, why wouldn’t you give yourself a compliment? About anything.
For example, take a look in the mirror and tell yourself how great your hair looks and that this t-shirt you’re wearing, fits you so good!

Do you say “I love you” to the people close to you or to your cat, maybe?

Well today, why wouldn’t you tell yourself “I love you”?
Say it, it really doesn’t hurt.

How does that feel? To buy flowers for your room, to compliment your hair and to say “I love you”? Good, doesn’t it? You probably feel a little bit weird about it, but that is just because you are not used to it. It is new to you, and it takes time. So let yourself that time to get used to it by doing this every day. I don’t mean buying yourself chocolate every day. (It would be pretty awesome though) But you can say “I love you” every day. It’s free, so there’s no reason not to do it.

You can also take care of yourself every day by taking care of your mind and of your body. (I’ll go more into details about these two things in another post). But basically for your mind, take time to meditate, clear your thoughts and breath. For your body, love your body. And take warm baths, get massages and stretch. Also, don’t forget to take care of the inside of your body, it is so important. Eat good foods and drink a lot of water. I know it sounds boring because everybody says that, but there is a reason why everybody is saying that. Trust me.

I mentioned being confident earlier, and that’s because confidence has a lot to do with self-love. When you love yourself you are more likely to be confident. When you feel beautiful and you go out somewhere, you are confident that you are beautiful. Because you believe in it. You will not doubt your hair color, you dress choice or your imperfections. You just love yourself the way you are. Loving yourself also means you believe in yourself. You believe in your abilities to do something. So for example, when a task comes to you, you are confident that you can do this. Because you believe in yourself and because you love yourself.

There is one last thing that I want to tell you, and I think it is worth to take time to reflect on.

We were created so beautifully, and I mean it. We don’t even understand and we don’t know all the things that are happening inside and outside of our body, to make it function so well. Take the brain, for example. The brain is astonishing! And we don’t even know everything about it. Everything is so “well-organized” in our body. Now take the outside. I’m sure you have once stared at someone and thought: “How is it possible that this person is so beautiful”. Well, because we are beautiful. Beautiful is how we were created. So the least we can do is take care of this beautiful being we are, take care of this creation that is, us. That is you and that is me. In some way, we owe that to our creator. I don’t think that we have the right to not care about ourselves and to let us die.

A wise person once said that in order to live a creative life, you have to lose the fear of being wrong. The same could be said about living a beautiful life. For each person living a beautiful life, it’s important to note that it’ll look unique differently. No person is the same. However, you know the things that will make you happy. You also know the things that will make you feel miserable and stuck.

In life, there is a balance. There is a desire to make others happy, but it can’t come at the expense of your own happiness and self-acceptance. In order to live a beautiful life, you’ll have to make some tough choices that involve putting yourself first. If you say yes to one person, you’re probably saying no to yourself in another way. This doesn’t mean that you can’t say yes to others. This just means that you need to be aware of the opportunity cost.

In moving forward to create a beautiful life, there are a few things you should consider. Start today with the following tips.

1. Indulge in the things you love.

Notice the things that are getting you into trouble and work towards changing yourself for the better.

5. Serve others.

Remember that you’re not an island. You live in a world with other people and should honor that. A wise woman once said that service is the rent we pay for living. Find different ways to serve those in your community. It will deepen your heart’s ability to give and receive love from others. A person who is living a beautiful life tends to possess a beautiful heart.

6. Discover and pursue your dreams.

Many people walk around aimlessly because they don’t really have any dreams. Realized dreams play a role in a beautiful life. Once you discover what your dreams are, pursue them. If you desire to travel the world, create a plan to save money and make that happen. If you’d like to become a multi-millionaire, study other multi-millionaires and implement the strategies you learn. It’s one thing to know what your dream is. It’s another thing to actually pursue the dream and implement the steps to get there. Don’t become stagnant if you experience disappointments. They’re a part of life. Even though you might hit a few bumps in the road, never give up on your dreams. It’s a part of what makes your life feel worthwhile.

I mentioned being confident earlier, and that’s because confidence has a lot to do with self-love. When you love yourself you are more likely to be confident. When you feel beautiful and you go out somewhere, you are confident that you are beautiful. Because you believe in it. You will not doubt your hair color, you dress choice or your imperfections. You just love yourself the way you are. Loving yourself also means you believe in yourself. You believe in your abilities to do something. So for example, when a task comes to you, you are confident that you can do this. Because you believe in yourself and because you love yourself.

There is one last thing that I want to tell you, and I think it is worth to take time to reflect on.

We were created so beautifully, and I mean it. We don’t even understand and we don’t know all the things that are happening inside and outside of our body, to make it function so well. Take the brain, for example. The brain is astonishing! And we don’t even know everything about it. Everything is so “well-organized” in our body. Now take the outside. I’m sure you have once stared at someone and thought: “How is it possible that this person is so beautiful”. Well, because we are beautiful. Beautiful is how we were created. So the least we can do is take care of this beautiful being we are, take care of this creation that is, us. That is you and that is me. In some way, we owe that to our creator. I don’t think that we have the right to not care about ourselves and to let us die.

Life will offer its fair share of ups and downs. It’s easy to be positive when everything is going well. It’s very difficult to be positive when all you can see is trouble. However, understand that the tough times won’t last. Your spirit will. The best way to get through the challenging times in your life is to remember to be positive. Always focus on the good. It’s not that you shouldn’t notice or recognize the bad. However, it’s important to create a plan, take a deep breath and be positive through it all. A beautiful life has its challenging moments.

4. Notice your patterns.

Notice your patterns. If you tend to find yourself in a specific predicament on a regular basis, take note of what you’re doing that gets you in that position. Notice the things that are getting you into trouble and work towards changing yourself for the better.

5. Serve others.

Remember that you’re not an island. You live in a world with other people and should honor that. A wise woman once said that service is the rent we pay for living. It’s another thing to actually pursue the dream and implement the steps to get there. Don’t become stagnant if you experience disappointments. They’re a part of life. Even though you might hit a few bumps in the road, never give up on your dreams. It’s a part of what makes your life feel worthwhile.

As you work towards making this life a reality for yourself, know that you will experience obstacles. Whenever you’re trying to move in a positive direction, life will throw a few curve balls at you.
