When you use a VPN in your windows 10 pc or laptop, it creates a path through which your internet usages remain safe and secure and so outsiders can not be able to locate your IP address and can not get your internet information.

Again, by using a VPN you can easily change your location and can access any internet platform which is not accessible in your country. So you can get these very useful features by only using VPN in your windows 10 pc or laptop.

There is another feature in a VPN that can give an extra benefit. That is its ad-blocking capacity. When you enable your VPN connection, you will get this feature free. Thus you do not need to block adds manually. For this reason, your net connection will be faster enough. So you should give a try and can be able to use it on your windows 10 pc or laptop.

For using VPN effectively, you need to know the procedure of its use. Here you will get the step by step procedure of enabling and disabling your VPN according to your net. So let’s start the journey.

How to Use VPN in Windows 10 PC Or Laptop

You can easily use VPN doing two main things. One is to create a VPN profile and another is to connect with the VPN. So first you need to create a profile. To create a profile, you need a VPN app. So firstly you have to download any VPN app from your windows 10 app store and then install it. After that, you have to choose the protocol for secure encryption. There are mainly four types of protocols available in any VPN service.

You should give attention to the protocol because it plays the main part in your security. The protocol tells about the strength of encryption. The more strength of encryption, the more secure your web activity. So protocol plays the role of encoding and that is known as encryption. So choose wisely a protocol. Though it gives your VPN service, so you have to take a good VPN service.

Your VPN service will directly tell you about the protocol’s name. Such that the creation of a profile is done. Now you have to turn on your VPN from Windows 10 to get the benefit of it. So let’s start.

Connection with VPN in Windows 10

At first, you have to type Settings on the search menu box. Then, clicking on the settings, you have to select Network & Internet option from the window. There are some options for connection in that part. You have to select VPN.

There you will find an option saying Add a VPN Connection. You have to click on it. Then, you will find a configuration page. There you will find six requirements. You have to fill them up.

The first requirement is the VPN Provider. So you have to give your provider’s name. In this case, you have to select the Windows (built-in) provider name from the drop-down arrow.

After this, you have to go for Connection Name and give this field a name consisting of your VPN service and the server you want to connect with.

Now comes the Server name or address field. Here you have to type the address of your connecting server and this will be provided your VPN connection. This address looks like a string of alphanumeric characters. There are five or six characters in the address which come from the VPN service. This address is a URL type name.

You will get a VPN type at this time and you have to fill it up by the protocol name. That protocol name you will get from the VPN service. Now Type of Sign-in Info field, you have to connect with your VPN connection. Here you will choose the connection type with your VPN service. Each VPN service uses their method. So you have to be sure about the method from your service provider. After this, you have to go for Username and password. So give your username and password to this area.

With the entered username and password, you have to connect with your VPN connection every time. Thus your connection will remain secure as well.

Finally, you have to click the Save button and now your connection to VPN is ready to work.

Now you have to come back to the Network & Internet window’s VPN part. Here you will get a logo with a VPN written in. You have to click on it and select it. Thus your VPN connection is on.

Disconnection of VPN in Windows 10

Sometimes, you may want to disconnect your VPN connect because of any reason. For this purpose, you have to go to settings and select a VPN from the Internet & Network option. Then in the VPN connection, you have to click on and select disconnect. To assure it, you have to click twice the remove button. Here you go. The disconnection process is done.

Sometimes you don’t need to install an app to have VPN activation on your windows 10 pc or laptop. In that case, you only need to use a particular browser for this purpose.

The Opera web browser provides these features with their settings. For this, you have to click on the opera icon after opening the browser. Then, you will get an instruction bar in which you will get the Preference option and you have to click on it. Then after scrolling down you will a get VPN option. Finally, you have to click on the button to enable it. Thus your VPN is ready to use.

If you want to disable then you will get the VPN icon with every URL when you will use opera. By clicking on the icon you will get the information about using MB rate also. When you will click on the VPN option, besides the writing you will find ON and OFF option. By clicking the OFF option, you can disable this feature. Sometimes, you need to disable this because it can cause your net connection a little bit slower.

So here you get another option of using a VPN without any installation of the app. You can use any of the two methods according to your choice. So pick one and enjoy your VPN features. LET US BREAK A LEG!

How to Connect to a VPN in Windows 10

This article explains different methods you can use to connect to an existing VPN connection you have configured in Windows 10. There is a special command you can use to connect to a VPN connection directly or create a shortcut to your connection.

Virtual private networks (VPNs) are point-to-point connections across a private or public network, such as the Internet. A VPN client uses special TCP/IP or UDP-based protocols, called tunneling protocols, to make a virtual call to a virtual port on a VPN server. In a typical VPN deployment, a client initiates a virtual point-to-point connection to a remote access server over the Internet. The remote access server answers the call, authenticates the caller, and transfers data between the VPN client and the organization’s private network. See the following article:

There are three ways to establish a VPN connection in Windows 10. You can use either Settings, the rasphone.exe tool or the console rasdial command.

How can I create a VPN connection with an arbitrary server using an arbitrary protocol in Windows cmd ?

How to connect to a vpn in windows

I know this is a very old thread but I was looking for a solution to the same problem and I came across this before eventually finding the answer and I wanted to just post it here so somebody else in my shoes would have a shorter trek across the internet.

****Note that you probably have to run cmd.exe as an administrator for this to work**

So here we go, open up the prompt (as an adminstrator) and go to your System32 directory. Then run

Now you’ll be in the ras directory. Now it’s time to create a temporary file with our connection info that we will then append onto the rasphone.pbk file that will allow us to use the rasdial command.

So to create our temp file run:

    C:\Windows\System32\ras>copy con temp.txt

Now it will let you type the contents of the file, which should look like this:

So replace CONNECTION NAME and with the desired connection name and the vpn server address you want.

Make a new line and press Ctrl+Z to finish and save.

Now we will append this onto the rasphone.pbk file that may or may not exist depending on if you already have network connections configured or not. To do this we will run the following command:

    C:\Windows\System32\ras>type temp.txt >> rasphone.pbk

This will append the contents of temp.txt to the end of rasphone.pbk, or if rasphone.pbk doesn’t exist it will be created. Now we might as well delete our temp file:

Now we can connect to our newly configured VPN server with the following command:

    C:\Windows\System32\ras>rasdial “CONNECTION NAME” myUsername myPassword

When we want to disconnect we can run:

That should cover it! I’ve included a direct copy and past from the command line of me setting up a connection for and connecting to a canadian vpn server with this method:

To make online browsing more secure and to protect your personal and work information, connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN). Here is how you can do it.

How to connect to a vpn in windows

A virtual private network (VPN) gives you online privacy and invisibility by creating a private network from a public network. VPNs cover your internet protocol (IP) address so your online actions are untraceable and cannot lead back to you. Most importantly, VPN services incorporate encrypted connections to provide advanced privacy than a secured Wi-Fi hotspot.

Connect to a virtual private network (VPN) on your Windows 10 PC for work or private use. A VPN connection can help provide a more secure network to a corporate establishment.

Surfing the web on an unsecured Wi-Fi network means you could be exposing your private and personal information, IP address and location, browsing history, devices and your web activity.

That’s why a virtual private network, better known as a VPN, should be a must for anyone concerned about their online security and integrity.

Steps to Connect to a VPN in Windows 10:

Before you can connect to a VPN, you must have a VPN profile on your device. You can either create a VPN profile or you can get a VPN profile from your company. When you have a VPN profile, you’re ready to connect to your Windows 10.

Step 1: Click on the Network icon on the far right of the taskbar.

Step 2: Select the VPN connection you want to use, then do either of the following depending on what occurs when you select the VPN connection:

If the Connect button displays under the VPN connection, click on Connect.

If the VPN section in Settings pops up, select the VPN connection there, then click on Connect.

Step 3: If you are suggested then enter your username and password or other sign-in info.

The VPN connection name will display connected underneath it when the process is successful. To see if you’re connected to the VPN select the Network icon in the taskbar, then see if the VPN connection says connected.

Sure, you could just download your VPN’s app to your Windows 10 machine. But there’s a better way.

How to connect to a vpn in windows

Setting up a VPN on Windows 10 is easy.

Whether you’re planning to take advantage of Prime Day laptop deals and pick up a new Windows 10 ($149 at Amazon) machine, or you’ve been using one for years and are just looking forward to Microsoft’s upcoming big Windows redesign , you may be considering adding a virtual private network to protect your online privacy.

The easiest way to get your favorite VPN up and running on your Windows 10 device is to simply download your VPN’s app from the Microsoft Store and install it, just as you did on your previous device or version of Windows. Using a VPN’s app is also the best way to use that VPN’s bonus features — from ad-blocking to automatically selecting the fastest connections.

But for the tech-curious, another option is to test drive Windows 10’s built-in VPN client. It may sound tricky, but the process takes about 15 to 20 minutes and can be broken down into two main components: Creating a VPN profile, and then connecting to the VPN. Here’s the step-by-step guide for setting up your VPN on Windows 10. (Plus, check out these tips for keeping your Windows 10 device secure .)

2 things you’ll need before setting up your VPN in Windows 10

    VPN service

Even though you’re using Windows 10 to manage your connection to a VPN, you’ll still need to choose which VPN service to connect to. The service you choose will determine who’s running the servers you’re about to connect to.

Check out our list of the best VPNs we’ve tested to get a quick idea of which provider might be best for you. You’ll find lots of options, including the fastest VPNs , the best cheap VPNs , the best iPhone VPNs and the best Android VPNs . But no matter which service you choose, keep an eye out for any red flags that might indicate a less-than-private service .

    Protocol choice

During setup you’re going to be asked to choose a protocol from a list. In the simplest terms, the protocol you choose determines the strength of your encryption. There are several types of protocols used by VPNs, and whichever VPN you choose will use one of them. The four most common are: PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP and OpenVPN. During setup, you’ll tell Windows which type of protocol your VPN uses by selecting it from a list. Your VPN provider will tell you which it uses.

You can use a third-party VPN service on your Windows 10 device, or try out Microsoft’s built-in option.

Create a profile in the Windows 10 VPN client

Here’s how to set up and connect to a VPN through the Windows 10 VPN client:

    1. On your Windows 10 desktop, right-click the Start button and select Settings from the menu that appears.

    2. In the new window that pops up, click Network & Internet then select VPN from the list of connection options on the right side of the screen.

    3. Click Add a VPN connection.

    4. This will take you to a configuration screen. Under VPN provider, click the dropdown menu and select the option that says Windows (built-in).

    5. In the Connection name field, type out the name you’d like to give this particular connection. Try to create one that you’ll easily recognize as a VPN connection. If, for example, you’re using ExpressVPN and want this connection to be the one you use to connect to a New York server, name the connection something like “ExpressVPN, New York server.”

    6. In the Server name or address field, type the actual address of the server you’re connecting to. Your VPN service will be able to provide this information. Generally it will look like a website URL, with an alphanumeric string of five or six characters followed by the name of the VPN service you’re using.

    7. In the VPN type dropdown, you’ll be asked to choose a protocol like I mentioned above. Select whichever one your VPN service uses.

    8. In the Type of sign-in info dropdown menu, choose the way you’re going to sign in to your new VPN connection. Different VPN providers have different preferred methods so you may wish to check with your VPN provider to be sure, but for most commercially available private VPNs, you’ll be selecting Username and password.

This means whenever you choose this new VPN connection on your Windows 10 machine, you’ll need to log into it with the same username and password you normally use to log into your VPN service on any other device.

    9. Click the Save button. You’ve now created your VPN profile, and all that’s left to do is to connect to it.

    10. Return to your Network & Internet settings page, and select VPN from the options on the right-side of the screen as you did before. Your newly created VPN connection will appear in the list (in our example, you’d see “ExpressVPN, New York server”). Select it and click Connect.

And there you have it. Sure, maybe you’re missing out on some of the additional features you’d otherwise get from using your VPN provider’s downloadable application, but on the other hand you also now have greater control over your connection and you don’t have to deal with a potentially bloated piece of software constantly running in the background. Bon voyage!
