How to customize your xbox one’s privacy settings

Xbox consoles are popular not only among gamers but for people of all age groups. Therefore, it is important to stay safe online while playing games. Here we bring for you tips to stay safe online while using Xbox.

Note: Most restrictions will work across Windows 10 PC when connected with the Microsoft account.

Before we begin with tips to stay safe while kids or teenagers use Xbox, you need to update Xbox One.

Setting up Xbox Privacy for Online Safety of Kids

The most important thing, you need to do is create and add a Child account to Microsoft account on Xbox. You can do so by adding your child as the family member and then fine-tune the settings. Microsoft offers more than 15 wide-ranging settings to manage your kid’s account – content filters, screen time management, purchase limit, and others.

How to add your kid’s account in Xbox?

A child account can be added to Xbox in two ways.

  1. From account.microsoft.com, this means you’ll need to create a Microsoft account for your kid and then link it the account to Family Settings.
  2. From the Xbox console.

Setting up and managing Xbox settings from Microsoft account

We assume your child already has either of the account – Xbox Live, Outlook.com, Windows, or OneDrive account. Ask the kid to sign in using the account. Once signed in follow steps below to add a child as the family member.

  1. Click here to navigate to the Microsoft Account Family Center.
  2. Next sign in using Microsoft Account that you want to use on Xbox.
  3. Now, click on Add a Child and sign in using their email address.

Note: If your kid doesn’t have a Microsoft account click here to create one.

  1. After adding your kid’s account, customize settings to secure their online Xbox and Windows 10 experience.
  • To receive detail emails about your child’s activity on Xbox and other Windows 10 devices select Activity Reporting
  • To block adult websites and to allow a specific site to work on Microsoft Edge select Web Browsing.
  • To restrict age-rated content select Apps, Games & Media.
  • To limit the amount of time your child can spend with Xbox or other Windows 10 devices select Screen Time.
  • To keep a check on credit card spending added in the account select Purchases & Spending.
  • To track the location of Windows 10 device connected to your account Select Find Your Child.

Manage setting via Xbox.com

To change privacy settings for you or for your kid follow the steps below:

  1. Click here to log in to your Microsoft account.
  2. To change settings for your kid’s account, select Gamertag.
  3. Next, choose Xbox One/Windows 10 Online Safety or Privacy. From here customize the settings as per your preference.
  4. Once the changes are made Save them and make your child sign out to bring changes into effect.

Managing settings from Xbox One console

To change settings for your account, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your Xbox using parent account.
  2. Next, open the guide by pressing Xbox
  3. Now, head to System > Settings > Account.
  4. Here, choose Family settings > Manage family members and select child’s name whose accounts setting you wish to update.
  5. Choose Privacy & Online Safety, to either customize the settings or use default settings. To customize settings, choose View details & customize.

How to Manage app privacy settings?

Each app downloaded from the Microsoft store requires permission to access data from the Xbox One console. To customize these permissions, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your Xbox using parent account.
  2. Open the guide by pressing the Xbox button present on your controller.
  3. Next head to System > Settings > Account > Family settings > Manage family members.
  4. Now, select kid’s Gamertag and head to Privacy& online safety > App privacy to grant permission.

Note:

  • If more than one player is signed in, then apps can access data that everyone has granted permission for.
  • When app permissions are given on an Xbox, then they are console specific. Therefore, if you use multiple consoles you need to give app permission on all consoles.

Setting up Xbox One Screen Time limits

This is the best feature of Microsoft family as it allows parents to decide when their child can use Xbox One and other Windows 10 devices. To setup screen time limits on Xbox One follow the steps below:

  1. Head to Microsoft Family Account.
  2. Click on Activity History and open your kid’s account.
  3. Next, switch to Screen Time and enable Xbox screen time limits.
  4. Now choose the time for every day you want your kid to use Xbox One.

Using these simple steps, you can easily secure yourself and your kid’s privacy while he is playing online games using Xbox One. Not only this, when screen time limit will be set kid, will be notified about him reaching the time limit. Once the limit is exhausted he will be locked out of his account.

Other things that can affect joining clubs are:

1. If your account is a child or teen account. You would need a parent account to change your settings

2. Do you have any sort of communication ban in place? Check here Just in case.

3. Have you been blocked by a member of the club?

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my design or cancel my order after placing an order?

Unfortunately not. Your controller starts to be created soon after you submit your order. And since it is customized specifically for you, no design changes are allowed once your order is submitted.

Can I return my controller if I do not like it?

Sorry, because Xbox Design Lab controllers are customized specifically for you, they cannot be returned.

I’ve placed my order. When will I get my controller?

Please check your order status at account.microsoft.com/. You will receive an email with the tracking number once your controller has been shipped. We aim to have the controller in your hands within 28 days of placing your order.

I did not receive an order confirmation. How do I know if my order went through?

Go to account.microsoft.com and sign in with you Microsoft Account (same e-mail add password you used to place the order). On the top of the page, click on the Payment & Billing dropdown and select order history. If you do not see your controller order there, then it was not completed. Please select your design and then checkout.

How do I change the address my order is being shipped to?

Please contact a customer service agent for assistance. You may be advised to visit www.FedEx.com and create a FedEx Delivery Manager account to manage your delivery.

I have been charged for my controller, but I have not received a shipping tracking number.

You were charged for your controller at the time it began to be built. It can take up to two weeks between that time and when you will receive a tracking number. You will receive an email with the tracking number once your controller ships.

I received my controller and it does not look like the one I ordered.

My controller is not working. What should I do?

Before attempting to exchange your controller, please take some steps to troubleshoot the problem. If this proves unsuccessful, please begin the online warranty replacement process. All warranty exchanges must be processed online and cannot be exchanged at a Microsoft Store.

Can I purchase interchangeable/additional parts for my controller?

No, additional or spare parts are not available for purchase for the Design Lab Controller. If you would like an Xbox controller with interchangeable parts, you should check out the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 at the Microsoft Store.

How do I purchase a controller as a gift?

The best way to do this is to have the gift recipient design the controller, add to cart, and share a screenshot of the design attributes. Once they have done that, you can build the controller to their specifications and purchase it for them.

Can I customize an Xbox One Elite Wireless Controller Series 2?

Customized Elite Series 2 controllers are not available through Xbox Design Lab at this time, but we are listening and we hear your feedback.

The last thing you want when playing a new game is for the edges of the screen to be cut off. To avoid this dilemma, you’ll want to make sure you’re playing with the correct screen size.

The best way to make sure your Xbox One is properly fitted to your TV is to calibrate it. Luckily, your Xbox comes with a built-in program that will help you calibrate it quickly and easily.

Here’s how to calibrate your Xbox One and TV.

Check out the products mentioned in this article:

Xbox One X (From $499.99 at Best Buy)

Samsung 50-Inch Smart TV (From $329.99 at Best Buy)

How to adjust the screen size on your Xbox One with calibration

1. Press the Xbox button on your controller to open a pop-up menu.

2. Use the right back trigger to scroll over to the “System” tab, indicated by a gear icon.

3. Scroll down to “Settings,” which is indicated by a second gear icon.

4. This will bring you to the Settings screen. Navigate to the first “General” tab.

5. Use the toggle to select “TV & display options.”

6. First, make sure your TV is set to the highest resolution. For many, this will be 1080p (though some TVs may have 4K ).

7. Next, use your toggle to select “Calibrate TV.”

8. Follow the onscreen instructions and click “Next” when you’re ready to begin.

9. The next screen will detail the recommended settings for your TV, including setting your TV to the highest resolution. Click “Next” again if you’ve already done so.

10. The following screen will provide instructions for your adjusting your TV’s aspect ratio and sharpness. Depending on your TV, the “aspect ratio” may also be called “picture size.” Use your TV remote to open your TV’s settings, where you can adjust the screen until green lines are visible around the edges.

If you don’t have a TV remote, you’ll need to use the buttons on the TV itself to access and change the TV’s settings. If you aren’t sure where to go here, consult your specific TV’s manual or instruction guide.

11. The following screen will move on to detail your TV’s brightness. Continue following the rest of the steps to complete the calibration.

So you’ve decided to treat yourself (or maybe you were treated) to a brand new Xbox Series X or Series S and immerse yourself in the next generation of consoles—but are you getting the most out of your Microsoft-made box? These quick tips and tricks for your new console will help , covering everything from automatic sign-in options to how to get a closer look at any in-game graphics.

1. Transfer your old games

You can play compatible games from an Xbox One, Xbox 360, or original Xbox by moving them over on a USB 3.1+ hard drive. For Xbox One to Xbox Series X/S transfers, you can use your home wifi. On both systems, press the Xbox button on the controller, then Profile & system, Settings, System, Backup & transfer, and Network transfer to access this.

2. Choose your start-up mode

Open up Settings on your Xbox and g o to General, Power mode & start-up, and Power mode to choose from two start-up options: Instant-on, which starts up your console in as little as five seconds, and Energy-saving, which starts up your console in around 45 seconds but is kinder to the environment and easier on your electricity bill.

3. Remind yourself to take breaks

You can have too much of a good thing, and if you don’t want to spend the entire day playing on your Xbox, then you can have the console give you a reminder to take a break. From the main Settings panel, you need to choose Preferences and then Break reminder to make your choice. After the selected time has passed, a reminder pops up on screen.

4. Install the mobile app

The Xbox app for Android and iOS definitely has its uses, whether you’re using the newest console or an older o ne . When it comes to the Xbox Series X/S, the mobile app lets you stream games to your phone from your console, start game downloads remotely when you’re not at home, and share synced game clips and screenshots online.

5. Use the magnifier

The Xbox Series X/S consoles let you zoom in on any part of the screen when you need to (if menu text is too small for you, for example). First, enable the Magnifier feature from Ease of Access in Settings, then you can bring it up by pressing the Xbox button then View on the controller. Use the trigger buttons and the right thumbstick to control it.

6. Sign in using your controller

If you have multiple people using your Xbox Series X or Series S, then you might find it more convenient to have your controller sign you in automatically to your account. You can even set up different controllers for different users. Head to Settings then Account, Sign-in, Security & Passkey, and This controller signs in to make the change.

7. Check your display settings

You want your Xbox Series X or Series S games to look their best, and that means making sure all the display settings are correctly configured for the television or monitor you have connected to it. T his should all happen automatically, but you can double-check by opening up Settings and then diving into the TV & display options menu under General.

Social interaction has always been a part of gaming, and it’s arguably the biggest appeal of online gaming.

But sometimes, whether you’re invested in a single-player game or just aren’t in the mood for multiplayer, you might not want others to know that you’re online.

Fortunately, the Xbox One’s privacy settings allow you to control who can see when you’re online. Here’s what you need to know to do it.

For some games, cross-play is awesome. The ability to jump into a game of State of Decay 2 with a friend who’s playing on PC from your Xbox is awesome, for example. However, there are certain instances where it’s notably less awesome. Here’s how to toggle cross-play on Xbox One, Series X, and Series S, and why you might want to.

    Products used in this guide

    • Next-gen gaming: Xbox Series X ($500 at Microsoft)
    • Mouse and keys for Xbox: Razer Turret ($250 at Amazon)
    • A better controller: Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 ($180 at Microsoft)

How to toggle cross-play on and off on Xbox One, Series X, and Series S

In competitive shooters, mouse and keyboard players generally have an advantage over controller players, purely due to the faster and more accurate turning capabilities of a mouse cursor. You can get a similar speed on an Xbox controller, especially on the Xbox Elite Controller Series 2 which allows you to customize the actuation and deadzone of the sticks, but adjusting to that can take a fair bit of practice. If you don’t fancy diving into controller customization and just want to play casually against other console players, there’s a setting on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Series S that lets you turn it off completely.

From the Xbox dashboard, open the guide menu by tapping the Xbox button in the center of your controller.

Choosing Block will prevent your Xbox multiplayer games from connecting to PC and mobile players but may increase multiplayer games’ waiting times. Choosing Allow will connect your multiplayer sessions to PC and mobile players and will result in quicker matchmaking. However, mouse and keyboard players may have an advantage if you’re using a controller or a touch screen device to play.
