How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

T hose who are aware of how torrents work know that when you’re downloading a file using a torrent, you are downloading bits and pieces of the desired file from multiple locations. This decentralized and peer-to-peer transfer of files is facilitated by torrent clients. Once you’ve downloaded the magnet links, you need to open it in a torrent client. You can use popular clients like BitTorrent, uTorrent, Deluge, and Vuze.

You can check out our list of best torrent clients for Windows to download files using torrent. Now, the torrent client you’ve chosen requests peers and seeds who have downloaded the file to offer you a piece of it.

However, it happens at times that there are very few seeds for a particular file that slows down the downloading process and this is where torrent trackers come in to play.

Using torrent trackers, you can increase the download speed of torrent files.

Torrent Trackers List 2021

Below is a list of torrent trackers that you can use in 2021 to increase your torrent downloading speed —

What are torrent trackers?

In layman’s terms, torrent trackers are servers that keep track of the peers who are available at the moment to offer you the requested files. These are a special type of servers that help in better communication between torrent clients and peers to speed up downloads.

The more number of torrent trackers you add, the more chances that you’ll get a large number of seeders and peers for the file you’re trying to download.

If more number of people are available to upload files to you, faster will be the downloading speed. Torrent trackers are of two types — private trackers and public trackers.

Public torrent trackers

Also known as open trackers, public torrent trackers can be used by anyone by adding them in the torrent client. You do not need registration or invitation for using public trackers to increase torrent download speed.

Private torrent trackers

Private torrent trackers are not available for everybody. You need to register yourself or access a private tracker using an invite. These torrent trackers are safe as compared to public trackers but there are an upload and download limits and you cannot use the tracker beyond it. You can access private torrent trackers on Reddit or similar forums.

How to add trackers to uTorrent In 2021?

Now that you have got the list of torrent trackers for 2021. The next step is adding these torrent trackers to a torrent client. You can add these trackers to any torrent client. To help you with the process, we are demonstrating the procedure to add torrent trackers to uTorrent, which is one of the most popular torrent clients.

The above-mentioned trackers work well with uTorrent and with this tracker list for uTorrent, you can increase your torrent downloading speed.

Having a good ratio gives benefits like enhanced download speed, good reputation among peers and gives you more chance of invites.

Yet most of us tend to be not satisfied and frustrated with a low ratio.

Thus in this article, we’ll neither be going to hack nor cheat any system through your torrent clients.

The idea behind this is to give you a guide you would find useful for your torrent uploading and downloading.

1. Go for Fresh Torrents.

You can obtain a significant ratio when you’re able to grab a torrent file earlier on and seeds for the other downloaders.

New files are more likely to attract leechers than seeders. You’ll be able to upload more data when the newly added torrent files will have more leechers.

This way is more effective if you have a fast internet connection. Therefore, avoid old torrents.

2. Opt for Smaller Files.

It is more appealing for the downloaders to download smaller files than choosing bigger files.

They are likely to start leeching as soon as they are done because they have completed faster.

You can share smaller files right away in which sharing and re-uploading the smaller files give you a much higher ratio.

3. Use a higher leecher ratio than seeders.

Try looking for and always get a popular torrent with a higher number of initial leechers.

This would help in increasing torrent ratio quickly. When there are more leechers than seeders to a recently added file, the more bits and pieces you’ll be able to share with the community.

As soon as you start downloading, you would be able to upload instantly. Therefore, avoid torrents with many seeders.

4. Avoid Zero-leech torrent.

Neglect a file with zero leechers. It doesn’t boost your share ratio when no one is downloading your file.

When looking for the files on the list of torrents, look for the Leecher column and neglect anything that has a zero.

Once you have a stable and better ratio, it is time to snag anything you want. Don’t go for torrents with no leechers.

5. Cross Seeds.

Cross-seeding is a process of re-seeding a previously downloaded file by grabbing a file from one or two trackers and seed it on another to build up your ratio.

Before doing so, familiarize yourself with the rules of trackers if this practice is discouraged.

6. Adjust client download and upload limit.

Setting an appropriate upload and download limit can make a big difference.

The upload speed is usually a direct ratio of your download speed.

You gain a higher upload speed to and from your peers if you are downloading the torrent file at the same time.

7. Keep the Torrent Client working.

After completing the download of a torrent, keeping your torrent client seeding will increase your uploading rate.

Don’t delete or move the files to keep it running.Downloaded files can be copied from one location to another in order not to disturb the seeded file.

Downloaded files can be copied from one location to another in order not to disturb the seeded file.

8.Purchase Credits.

One can be rewarded with VIP status, top sharing ratio, and other benefits when using credits.

You are paying for the right to download files more than the other free users.

Though this doesn’t work with some torrent sites, you can gain credits just by staying active in their IRC channel.

9. Donate.

It is a good practice to donate especially when the site relies on donations in order to cope up with their server costs.

This act of gratitude will greatly affect your account status as you help out the torrent site community.

10. And lastly, use a private server. Get a Seedbox.

It is a private server that is used for uploading and downloading files using a remote torrent client on a private and dedicated server with a general speed of 100Mbit/s or higher while keeping your IP address away from prying eyes.
Having a seed box helps you gain much higher ratio due to guaranteed uptime connection for server availability.

By applying the tips we have shared above, you should be able to see the difference as you get the most favorable outcome ratios for your torrent files.

I s your torrent download speed slow and you want to speed it up? Here, we have written a comprehensive guide that covers different aspects of torrent downloading.

Using torrent clients is one of the most popular ways to share files over the web. There are many popular torrent sites to do the job. While there are just minimal basic settings needed to run these clients, there are some tweaks for more advanced users.

How to make BitTorrent download faster in simple steps?

To increase the torrent download speed, you can always find plenty of good ways online. In this article, we are trying to provide you all those methods and tips at a single place. Take a look:

1. Install a Lightweight Torrent Client

To increase the torrent downloading speed, the very first step you need to follow is to install a lightweight torrent client. Although BitTorrent is one of the most popular torrent clients around, it comes with lots of bloated apps and other features. So, I prefer uTorrent most for hassle-free and faster torrent downloading. You can also install qBittorrent since it’s another lightweight torrent client.

The reason for using a lightweight torrent client is that it only focuses on downloading torrents and speeds up the transfer rate. utorrent and qBittorrent are available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

You can also refer our list of best torrent clients for Mac, Windows, and Android.

2. Choose a Healthy Torrent

For choosing a healthy torrent, first, you need to understand the concept of seeder and leecher. These two terms always confuse the new torrent enthusiast, so, here I will try to clear your doubts in simple language.

A seeder is one who has the complete copy of the file shared across the network which you intend to download. However, a leecher is one who does not have the complete copy of file and has joined the network to download the file. Once a leecher downloads the file completely, he/she will become a seeder.

For a high torrent download speed, the number of seeders should be higher than the number of leechers. The more is the number of seeders, the healthier your torrent will be. So, while choosing a torrent, make sure that the seeder-leecher ratio is high.

3. Add an Exception to Windows Firewall

Windows Firewall can block your torrent client or you can say your incoming BitTorrent connections. So, adding an exception to the Windows firewall will be a good option to boost torrent downloading speed. First, navigate to Options> Preferences> Connections, now check the Add Windows Firewall exception box and then click Apply.

(Check Enable UPnP port mapping in case it’s unchecked).

Warning: Do not shut down Windows Firewall permanently as it leaves your PC open to attack.

4. Change General Settings to Optimize uTorrent

To increase the speed of your torrent, make sure you have the best uTorrent settings configured on your machine. All the three options that are shown in the figure below should be checked.

To find these options, navigate to Options> Preferences> General then check Append .!ud to incomplete files and Pre-allocate all files. Usually, the third option is already checked but if it’s not, check that too.

5. Limit Your Global Upload and Download Rate

You can also speed up your torrent downloading on clients like qBitTorrent, BitTorrent, uTorrent, etc., by limiting the upload and download rate. But first, you should understand the fact that torrents breathe the uploading done by users.

So, turning it completely off, or setting it as 1kB/s, would not be a wise option. But, at the same time, you don’t want your upload rate to set it as the maximum (‘0’ stands for unlimited) as it can choke down your own connection.

Setting upload rate to about 70-80% of your maximum upload speed would be a great option to speed up torrenting. Whereas, you can keep the download rate 0, as it is considered as maximum. To configure these options navigate to Proprties> Bandwidth, then set the Global Upload Rate Limit as 80% your max upload.

6. Change the Number of Connections

Once you’ve set the upload/download rate, you can now change the number of connections to avoid any overload. Although, if you do hit and trial with the settings you might get a better result. But, for those who aren’t very much sure, I can suggest you some rough numbers which might increase torrent downloading speed.

Navigate to properties> Bandwidth, then set Global maximum number of connections to 150 and the maximum number of connected peer per torrent to 100. Leave the upload slot as it is.

7. Add More Trackers

Trackers are a good way to optimize the torrent download speed. Adding new and faster trackers to your existing torrents can increase the download speed by adding new seeds and peers to your connection.

The method of adding trackers to your torrent is not so complicated as you only have to add these links to your existing trackers. While pasting the new tracker, make sure that you are not erasing the existing ones (and do not worry about duplication).

To add new trackers, first right click on the torrent you are downloading and then select Properties. Under the General tab, you will find the trackers list. Scroll to the bottom and paste trackers from the list given below.

8. Pick the best port for torrenting

As you might know, the BitTorrent protocol depends on the TCP protocol for transferring data over the internet. The recommended and possibly the best TCP port for torrenting is between 6881-6889. So, if you’re still wondering how to make torrent downloads faster, you can try configuring the same on your computer.

What are the risks of torrenting?

Research conducted last year revealed that popular shows like Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Westworld, and Stranger Things are all a war zone when it comes to malware. This is because hackers know they will be downloaded millions of times and are an easy way to infect people with malware, spyware, trojans and other malicious programs that can take your system and information hostage. Game of Thrones was the show with the most infected torrents – with 30,000 infected torrents discovered by Kaspersky Labs.

How to stay safe when torrenting

Torrenting poses some very real risks, but there are some steps that you can take to mitigate against them. Below we have listed some tips you can use to stay safer when torrenting. For more information on any of the tips, simply click the links:

  1. Use a VPN for safer torrenting
  2. Check you’re using the right seed
  3. Check the comments
  4. Install a good antivirus
  5. Download to a sandbox environment
  6. Join a torrent community

Use a VPN for safer torrenting

Using a VPN for torrenting is a no brainer. A VPN encrypts all the data coming and going from your machine. This stops your ISP from being able to track the websites you visit. It also means that it has no idea whether you are downloading from torrent repositories. With a VPN connection you gain complete privacy, which means that you are free to use websites without fear of repercussions.

A VPN’s encryption hides your activity from ISPs and your IP address

VPNs also stop the websites and services that you visit from tracking your real IP address. As a result, anybody attempting to track the people who are downloading from torrent websites will not actually be able to get your IP address. Instead, they will only see the VPN server’s IP address.

Admittedly, there is a targeted method that can be used to track down VPN users. This is known as a time correlation attack, which is fortunately easy to avoid if you stick to zero-log VPN providers. Keeping no logs is considered the holy grail of VPNs and is why we recommend torrenters to choose a service that includes this assurance.

Concealing your IP address also has security benefits. When torrenting via peer-to-peer, you are potentially advertising your home’s IP address to everybody else who is connected to the peer. If someone on that peer is a hacker, they could probe your IP address for open ports or for IoT devices to add to a botnet. Using a VPN ensures that fellow torrenters on the peer can’t single you out.

If you want to learn more about how a VPN can help, see our what is a VPN guide.

Can I use any VPN provider?

No. Not every VPN permits torrenting because it is resource-heavy and can have an impact on the cost of running their VPN servers.

The more data that is downloaded, the more data that must be processed, and the server farms they rent their servers from charge them a lot more for the pleasure.

In addition, torrent downloads use up lots of bandwidth, which can slow those VPN servers down. This can reduce the overall performance and put a strain on the VPN network – making the servers get slow and laggy for other users.

VPNs that permit torrenting keep zero logs so that none of their subscribers can ever be singled out for torrenting. And they run their service on a massive network of Tier 1 servers that are capable of handling huge amounts of data at lightning-fast speeds.

In fact, the very best VPNs set aside specific servers for torrenting and use load balancing to ensure that users are automatically connected less congested servers – helping the VPN to run smoothly for all its subscribers.

Which VPN should I use for torrenting?

There’s a lot that needs to be considered when deciding which VPN to use when torrenting. To help, we have compiled a list of our favourite VPNs to use when torrenting, where we also cover the main considerations you need to make before committing to one.

Check you’re using the right seed

Avoiding malware and other exploits is a primary concern for most torrenters. The good news is that there are several ways of spotting and staying away from malicious seeds.

Got seeds?

The easiest way to ensure you download what you are actually looking for is to search for torrents that are popular. If a torrent has a lot of seeders, it is likely to be the real deal.

Add a little flair

Using popular torrent repositories like EZTV or YTS can help you find what you are after quickly and safely. These kinds of popular websites use ‘flair’ systems to highlight verified users – which makes it easier to ascertain whether a seed is genuine or not.

On ThePirateBay, for example, moderators highlight users who regularly upload content that is free of malware by giving them a Trusted tag. The VIP tag is similar but is simply there to denote a seeder who is extremely trustworthy.

The ‘Trusted’ tag is a pink skull and the ‘VIP’ tag is a green skull. However, the ‘flair’ will look different depending on the site that you use. Make sure to do some research and learn what’s what to find highlighted users on the website you intend to use!

Thanks to its lightweight and incredible speed, uTorrent is one of the best torrent clients available. That said, when you download torrents using this client, the download speed is sometimes not satisfactory, to say the least.

How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

There are many ways you can speed up the download, and one of them is adding trackers. If you want to learn how to add trackers in uTorrent, you’re in the right place. Read on for more information about trackers, adding them, and some other useful tips for increasing your uTorrent download speed.

Note: We recommend using a VPN service while downloading any kind of torrent.

What Are Torrent Trackers?

A torrent tracker is a server that helps the communication between a torrent protocol and peers. Peers are people who are downloading a specific torrent at any given moment. Seeders are people who’ve downloaded the torrent already, and are helping others download it, by uploading the files themselves.

Essentially, a torrent tracker increases the number of seeders and peers, allowing for the faster download of files. There are many public or open trackers that you can use to boost your download speed. You can find many of these tracker lists online, but make sure that they’re updated and concurrent.

Since we’re in 2020 already, find a tracker list, or use this one which is currently working. However, you may not know how to add it to uTorrent. Don’t worry. Here’s a brief tutorial. it.

How to Add Trackers to uTorrent

Adding trackers to uTorrent isn’t so difficult. Make sure to download the latest version of uTorrent from the official website. You can get the free version for Mac, Android or Windows. Alternatively, there’s an Ad-free option, the Pro upgrade, or even uTorrent with integrated VPN.

After using the free uTorrent client for years, I can confirm that it works flawlessly. I’ve never had any issues with it, and my download speed is always excellent. Without further ado, follow the steps to add trackers to uTorrent:

  1. Launch uTorrent on your device of choice.
  2. Start downloading any torrent.
  3. Right-click your torrent and select Properties.
How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker
  4. Look at Trackers at the top of your screen. This is the tracker list. Copy and paste the trackers from the list we posted in the previous section, or from any fresh list of trackers, you might find.
How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker
  5. When you’re done adding as many trackers as you please, click on OK at the bottom of this window to confirm the changes.

After adding trackers to uTorrent, your download speed should increase at least a little bit, if not a lot. You can always check the Down Speed next to the Status of the torrent you’re downloading.

Other Ways to Improve Download Speed

Adding trackers will surely increase torrent download speed, but sometimes it won’t feel significant. Here are some additional tips to help increase download speed in uTorrent. First of all, make sure that you stop other downloads and apps from hogging your network resources.

If you prioritize one torrent, it will download quicker. You can also prioritize one or more files within the same torrent, downloading them faster than the other files. This is particularly useful if you’re downloading a TV show. You can download the first episode and start watching it while the other episodes download shortly afterward.

Follow the steps to do this:

  1. Open uTorrent.
  2. Click on the torrent you’re downloading.
  3. Scroll down to the Files tab.
  4. Mark all the files that you want to stop downloading, except for one (like the first episode of a show, etc.)

You can also do this if you’re downloading multiple torrents. Either pause all the other torrents, leaving one download active, or you can increase the download priority of a single torrent or more torrents. Here’s how to prioritize one torrent over the others:

  1. Open uTorrent on your device.
  2. Select the torrent you want prioritized and right-click it.
  3. Click on Bandwidth Allocation and select High.
How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

You can also select Set Download Limit under Bandwidth Allocation and make sure it’s set to Unlimited. This will remove any obstacles and restrictions in downloading your torrent.

Parting Advice

While tinkering with uTorrent features, you probably noticed the Update Tracker option when you right-click a torrent. Personally, I don’t think this feature improves the download speed. The best way to update your trackers is to add trackers manually, as we showed you.

Make sure to add trackers from an updated list. The one that was linked is good for now, but in the future, it may get outdated. Just look up torrent tracker lists online and search for the current time period, and you’ll be good to go.

Do you use utorrent software for downloading files but the download speed is slow and you want to speed it up?

Then here are 3 ways you can use to increase utorrent download speed when you have low seeders.

(Download uTorrent software for your PC)

Table of Contents

What do seeders and leechers mean?

Seeders: Seeders are those who have already downloaded the file or a person who uploads the torrent seeds for others.

The more seeders there are the better the chances of you getting a higher download speed.

Ex. Out of 50 users who downloaded, 10 users are uploading the file or “seeding” while the other 40 have switched off or stopped running.

Peers: The users who are both downloading and uploading the file at the same time are called Peers.

Leechers: Leechers are those who don’t have the complete file and are not able to share any required part of the file.

In simple words, you are a Leecher/Peer until your download completes but then you become a Seeder once you have 100% download.

If there are zero seeders it is very doubtful that you will ever finish downloading that torrent. Very rarely you can download the whole file only by leechers.

Note:

More seeds than leech – Speed is high.

More leech than seeds – Speed is slow.

No seeds & leech – No one to share files and can’t download.

How to speed up torrent speed with low seeders?

1.) Add trackers list

Open the utorrent software in your pc and right-click on any slow torrent.

Now select Properties. Now a window will open and inside the General tab, there should be a list of all the existing trackers. Copy the below list and paste it in this window.

How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

Hi there. My name is Saish K and I am the owner of this blog.

How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

One of the biggest issues in the world of torrenting is the speed. Sometimes the slow download of a torrent can be very frustrating and it may even seem impossible to finally get it. Fortunately, there are a few things that can be done to improve this kind of situation.

Safety Before Speed

Before even thinking about speed, your priority should be getting a VPN to download torrents safely. A Virtual Private Network is a very handy software that makes you anonymous and very hard to trace. That way you will be safe while using your torrent program.

Tips to Increase Download Speeds

As we mentioned before, there are some things you can change to get a higher velocity. Some of them are obvious, but we’re sure you’ll find new information that will help you.

1. You Cannot Go Higher Than Your ISP Plan

The first thing to understand is that you cannot have more than what your Internet Service Provider gives you. In other words, your monthly plan limit is the maximum speed you can possibly achieve. The easiest and most obvious way of increasing your download speed is by getting a better Internet plan. You can always check what your ISP is offering, or even consider a new provider.

2. Make Sure You are Not Being Throttled

It is common for an ISP to throttle a connection when they realize one of their customers is torrenting. This kind of downloads consume a lot of bandwidth, and slowing down your connection is a way of saving resources.

This is actually another advantage of using a Virtual Private Network. A VPN avoids torrent throttling because it encrypts your Internet connection. The ISP cannot see what you are doing and won’t slow you down.

3. Select a Healthy Torrent File

This is also a big one. A file that has few seeders and peers will download much slower than one that has many of them. Always check these numbers and prioritize the number of seeders. They are the reason why older torrent files are slower. They have fewer people sharing them.

4. Limit Your Upload Speed

Another advice is to limit your upload speed to around 80% of your total upload rate. When it comes to the download limit, leave it as 0, it is the maximum.

How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

You can do that in the bandwidth options, as in the image above. Before doing so, test your upload speed and then calculate 80% of that value.

5. Adding More Trackers

A new tracker means new peers and seeders, which results in faster speeds. Keep in mind that trackers change constantly, many close and new ones appear. That being said, adding new trackers on a regular basis can make a difference.

Trackers can be found by right-clicking on each torrent, still active in your BitTorrent client. They will be in “Properties“, you can copy from other sources and paste them there. After including them, make sure you check if the number of seeders and peers increased. That would mean you included good ones.

6. Windows Firewall Exception

If you tick the box to add a Windows Firewall exception in the “Connection” preferences, you will be connected to more people sharing the same files. This means that the firewall won’t block any sources, connecting you directly to more seeds.

How to download more files faster using a torrent tracker

7. The Wi-Fi Connection

Your Wi-Fi can also have an impact on your downloads. A common scenario is the distance that the device is from the router.

Sometimes, that distance is even worse when there are metallic objects between you and the router. Metal weakens your Wi-Fi signal because it absorbs the waves.

If you can, connect directly to the router. Most users notice a big improvement when doing so.

8. Get a Light BitTorrent Client

A lightweight software like uTorrent or qBitTorrent is a better option. The program focuses its efforts on the download and upload tasks, making it more efficient.

There are others that have a ton of add-ons that allow the user to tweak it and have a lot of functionalities. The downside is that it consumes resources that will affect speed.

Doing Your Part to Have Healthy Torrents

We couldn’t talk about this subject without mentioning that it all depends on you, the user. In order to have healthy torrents and good download speeds, you also have to contribute to a healthy ecosystem.

Make sure you seed the torrent files you downloaded, at least until it reaches a 1:1 ratio, meaning you gave back to other users the same amount that you took. If everyone did that, the number of seeders would be higher, meaning it would take a long time for torrents to become old and slow.

To understand the concept of healthy torrent you need to first know about the leechers and seeders present in the particular file, in simple terms a ‘seeder’ is the one who has a complete copy of the file shared across the network and a leecher is the one who does not have a complete copy of file but has joined the network to download the file. So once the leecher completes his downloading, they will also become a seeder for that particular file. In order for you to get a high torrent download speed, the number of seeders for the file should be higher than the number of leechers. In simple math having more number of seeders could be termed as a healthier torrent file. So always check for the seeder > leecher ratio before downloading any files.
