Let’s be honest. Unless you have a magic wand, there’s virtually no way you can make your existing problems just disappear.

You can’t. And besides, you shouldn’t. Difficulties in life help shape our ideas and identity. As unpleasing as they are, they are also incredibly important.

But here’s a thing: Just because you have to live with problems doesn’t mean it should affect the quality of your life.

Or, for that matter, just because there are snags in life doesn’t mean there’s no room for joy.

The Way They Deal with Problems

Look around. It’s not uncommon to find people who are drowning in worries. It could be your parents, siblings, or friends. In fact, there’s a good chance it could be you.

These people are usually quite pessimistic. They magnify their problems with negative self-talk and affirmations. It’s not as much the real issues as their own habit of over-thinking that destroy their lives.

The psychological stress soon cascades to reflect physically. Their health declines. And their whole life gets affected, along with of those who love and care about them.

And the worst of all is there’s very less that these people do to bring about their lives on track. They accept problems as a permanent and empowered part of their being, much to what many Buddhists believe— “life is suffering”.

& What You Should Do Instead

One word: BE GRATEFUL.

This is the most effective hack that almost guarantees to resolve all your life’s problems INSTANTLY.

When you bring perspective into the problems, things look quite different. Your problems start to look much smaller. In fact, your problems might not be a problem in the first place, but rather a monster created by your head that, in actual, is nothing but a shadow.

Did you know more than the world’s 11 percent population suffer from hunger? This very moment, while you read this, 842 million people are hungry. When you average the number, more than one person dies, worldwide, every second because they don’t have enough food to eat.

OR, did you know that 844 million people across the world lack clean drinking water?

There are countless such numbers that highlight the real problems and dreads to humanity.

Do these realities not bring perspective to what you’re going through at the moment?

Had a breakup? Someone passed away? Failed your exam? Had an argument with your friend? Your day job isn’t paying you enough?

These are NOT problems. There are basic glitches that will get fixed over time. These aren’t the real monsters that your brain has created.

There are people who don’t have food to eat, water to drink and house to live; there are parents who will see their child sleep tonight empty stomach; there are kids who dream about getting education. Do your problems still look as relevant in front of these realities?

Likely not. Yours aren’t even the problems.

So, please, please be grateful. You’re privileged. We’re privileged. Be grateful.

Understand the reality. Look at all the people you have around; look at all the good things that are happening in your life right now. The moment you’re grateful for all that you have, you will instantly see your problems vanish. Yes, they will vanish. They won’t matter to you anymore. The “good” will take over your conscious and you will realize just the kind of wonderful life you’re living right now.

It Won’t Be Easy

Sure, being grateful isn’t very easy. And when your head has made a mountain of a molehill, counting your blessings isn’t something you would feel like doing.

But then there’s no other way. If you really want to fix the current problems in your life, instantly at that, take up gratefulness.

Meditate, chant and listen to bhajans and pray as much as your heart wants. Start your day by writing three things that you’re most thankful for in your life. End the day similarly. Also, replace your every-day negative thoughts with positive affirmations.

Over the course, with conscious and consistent efforts, you will notice gratefulness becoming your natural state of mind. You will find that even when big problems come into your life, you will find it easier to deal with them.

Sometimes, no matter how hard you try, it can feel like everything is going wrong. Life just feels bad, maybe even to the point where you want to crawl into bed for the rest of eternity. A much better option, however, is to look for ways to fix your life, start fresh, and maybe even try something new.

Of course that’s easier said than done, especially when things are particularly horrible. Getting yourself out of a minor creative slump, for example, is way easier than picking yourself up after a bad breakup. And yet it can be done. Whether you just want to feel inspired, or you’d like to totally restart your life, it pretty much all starts in the same place.

But how do you know when things need to change? Well, apart from obvious signs (like getting dumped, or fired) you might simply experience a vague sense that something is off. Some signs to look out for include, “A general unhappiness or restlessness in many areas of your life, [and] an impulse to change things — even if nothing is seriously wrong — hoping that will make things feel better,” says psychologist Nicole Martinez, Psy.D., LCPC, in an email to Bustle.

Whatever your reason or issue may be, it might help to follow some of the tips below. Hopefully you’ll be able to sort things out, and get on the way to fixing your life.

1. Try Something New

If things aren’t working out the way they are now, then the first logical step is to go try something new. Not only will it help you discover other options in life, but it can actually feel really good. “When we try something new, we activate new parts of the brain we do not normally use,” Martinez says. “These can trigger dopamine and serotonin reactions, which can help improve mood and motivate you to move forward and try new things.”

2. Set Intentions Every Morning

Many of us find ourselves in a morning rut — the alarm goes off, we immediately feel miserable, and then we trudge off to work. (Not the best routine, if you ask me.) It can really help to try something new, and start the morning in a different way. “Every morning, set intentions, go over what you are grateful for, meditate, workout and set goals for the day,” says Kim Chronister, PsyD, Clinical Director of Summit Malibu, in an email to Bustle. It may help send your day in a different direction.

3. Get To Cleanin’

Sometimes the easiest place to start is with the dishes. Scrub away, and then straight up the rest of your apartment. Not only will an organized home feel better, but it can help you get some forward momentum towards change. “Cleaning your physical environment isn’t a fix-all; however, tackling some housekeeping is a good exercise in conquering tasks and gets a productive energy flowing,” said life coach Diane Passage on HuffingtonPost.com.

4. Do The Thing That Scares You

Now’s the perfect time to scare yourself, and get outside your comfort zone. The best place to start? By doing that nerve-racking thing you’ve always wanted to do. I’m talking about the life-alteringly scary things you never thought you’d try, like standup comedy, dance lessons, or submitting your novel. It may be just what you need to jolt back to life.

5. Build Up From Small Changes

If the above tip is too much, then start by adding in little changes on a daily basis. Think about going to a new place for lunch, or listening to a different kind of music. “Start small, and add them in a little at a time,” Martinez says. “You will feel like you have a new and rewarding life in no time.”

6. Force Yourself To Have Fun

Sometimes it helps to get out there and get involved with what used to make you happy — even if you don’t feel like it. “You will find that after a brief amount of time of doing them again, you will actually start to enjoy yourself,” Martinez says. Hey, it might just be worth a try.

7. Go Hang Out With Cool People

Like I said, you may have that intense desire to crawl into bed forever, but staying home by yourself isn’t the best way to feel better. “Isolating is one of the most obvious signs that your life is stagnating,” says Chronister. “Socializing has a powerfully positive affect on our physical and physiological health.” So go hang out with some cool people, and maybe a little inspiration will rub off.

8. Fake A Better Attitude

Yes, life may suck right now. But sitting around in a gloomy state won’t do anything to fix things, or make you feel better. So start faking a sunnier outlook. “Attitude is contagious, and thinking positive will boost your ambition and support a more constructive perspective,” said Passage.

9. Take Some Time To Assess

Don’t be afraid to take time off from that crappy job, or to spend a weekend away from your SO. Whatever the problem may be, giving yourself some distance can help sort things out.

10. Have Yourself A Good Cry

When sh*t’s hitting the fan, it can be tempting to hold in all your emotions, and bravely continue on. And yet there’s something so refreshing about having a good cry. “Your body essentially purges toxins when you weep,” said Therese J. Borchard on PsychCentral.com. “It’s as if all your emotions are bubbling to the surface, and when you cry, you release them, which is why it is so cathartic.”

11. Be All About The Lists

Get out a pen and paper, and start thinking about what makes you happy. “Think about all of the things you did as a child, a teenager, and a young adult . that brought you happiness,” suggested certified coach Barrie Davenport on her blog LiveBoldandBloom.com. “Now think about some things you’ve done in recent years . where you have felt really happy or content.” Write them all down, and there you’ll find a list of things worth striving for.

12. Make A Plan To Reach Your Goals

You can have all the inspiring lists in the world, but they mean nothing unless you act on them. So start thinking of ways to meet your goals. Do you need to go back to school? Revamp your resume? Hang out with different people? These things are all totally attainable, if you are willing to try.

13. Remember You Aren’t Alone

When life isn’t going as planned, it’s normal to feel like you’re the only one who has bad luck. But keep in mind that nothing could be further from the truth. “The average person has eight career changes (not job changes, career changes) in their lifetime,” Martinez says. “They have countless relationships before they find [the right partner], and they had to be trained for every job they ever had.” All of those people have gotten through, and you will, too.

Again, it’s never easy to start over, or to fix your life once it’s gone astray. But it is possible. So stick to that positive attitude, try new things, and soon your life will be back on track.

Have you ever had one of those moments when you realize your life is way out of balance? With so many aspects of life to juggle — career, relationships, health, finances, etc — it’s next to impossible to experience continuous equilibrium at all times.

Because of that, sometimes ‘sudden’ disarray sneaks up. Everybody is different, and how you detect and handle life’s messes is a personal thing. Here are some general warning signs of chaos and how you can efficiently manage them:

1. You have a negative attitude.
For me personally, this is my #1 indicator that I need to take inventory of my life. Whether you’re generally chipper, gloomy or somewhere in between — you may find yourself aware of a decline in your outlook.
Quick fix: Reverse your negative thoughts! Attitude is contagious, and thinking positive will boost your ambition and support a more constructive perspective. Nurture hopefulness, believe in yourself and have confidence in others!

2. You feel burnt out.
Do you feel so overwhelmed that you don’t have energy to do anything? Or maybe you are doing everything but know that you can’t continue like that indefinitely.
Quick fix: Prioritize, strategize, delegate and have some quality personal time every day! Determine what’s most important for you to accomplish, make a plan, ask for help, and make sure you have at least 30-minutes of uninterrupted, non-negotiable, unapologetic YOU-time!

3. Your home or desk is a mess.
Neglecting day-to-day housework, accumulating clutter, disorder or other sloppiness could be suggestive of not handling things. On the opposite end, a clean house or office does not mean your life is under control. Cleaning your physical environment isn’t a fix-all; however, tackling some housekeeping is a good exercise in conquering tasks and gets a productive energy flowing.
Quick fix: Clean up! There are a lot of resources out there, so if you don’t know how to clean or organize – watch a YouTube vid, search the web, or outsource if you have the means.

4. Health problems.
We don’t have total control over our health, but it is possible to prevent many stress-related illnesses. Symptoms and sicknesses that show up during high-stress times may be a cautionary sign to take better care of yourself. Chronic stress affects the immune system “leaving the body vulnerable to infection and disease.” I bet you can probably give at least one example of a health issue you experienced that was brought on by stress. Headaches? Upset stomach? Sleep deprivation? Those are just a few!
Quick fix: Minimize stress! Way easier said then done, but. Reducing stress is a personal process so find what works for you. Two approaches I can think of are cutting down on situations that produce stress in your life, if at all possible; and/or regularly engaging in decompressing rituals such as exercise, meditation, getting fresh air, etc.

5. You are unfocused.
Purpose, direction and concentration have eluded you. Maybe you’re spread thin, distracted, tired or facing another issue. It is important to regain focus so you can efficiently accomplish more, be present, and attract beneficial opportunities.
Quick fix: You can get more focused by avoiding predictive distractions, prioritizing responsibilities, taking short breaks, allotting practical timeframes for tasks, getting 8+ hours of sleep every night – those are just a few suggestions!

Human beings fall into many different categories. We’re problem solvers by nature, after all, we invented the wheel. And other things too, like the internet. But we still struggle with the problems in our own minds. Often, these can feel pretty damn unsolvable, but overthinking never helps.

In an effort to live a simpler, happier, and more positive life, you might want to push all your problems to the back of your mind and try to replace those negative feelings with positive ones. But psychologists have realized that every problem, no matter how complex it seems, actually boils down to one of the very few common problems everybody faces.

There’s actually a list of around 15 problems, and most likely, no matter how complex and individual you’d think your specific problems were, they actually all fit into one of these 15 categories. It’s quite an interesting principle and actually means that solving and overcoming things can be a lot easier than we thought. YOU FEEL STRESSED

One in ten people in the UK alone says they are dealing with the stress of being ‘always on’. YOU’RE NOT REACHING YOUR GOALS

So you’re not hitting targets at work. Or maybe you thought you’d have lost the weight/started the business/quit the job by now but you haven’t made any moves towards it. It can leave you feeling demotivated and ruin your self-confidence. But it doesn’t need to, a little blip on the road shouldn’t define you or your attitude to the goals you’ve set for yourself.

Remember that goals are great, but unless you have a plan, they’re going to stay vague. In my life, I’ve set so many goals, but until I actually got a pen and paper and wrote down short-term goals and the end game, I never hit them. You can’t expect yourself to hit every single goal you set without a plan. I’d recommend using the Getting Stuff Done planner to get it together, to make an action plan for your goals and keep yourself on track every day.

When it comes to work goals, you might not be hitting them because of a lack of knowledge. So write down areas you can work on and start working on them. At least you can say, you’re not hitting your goal but you are actively working towards it. That’s so much better than doing nothing.

A RELATIONSHIP ENDED

Whether it’s a friendship, a family relationship, or something more romantic, the breakdown of a relationship is never easy. It can make us feel a little useless, a little sad and weepy, and it can tar other relationships going forward. But you can solve it, even if you can’t fix it.

Remember that relationships break down all the time, friendships fade away, arguments and fallouts happen. If you want to fix it, you should try to go above and beyond, listen to the other person and get their point of view, make your feelings known in a sensitive way and if there’s no way to repair that relationship, you need to move on. The world is a huge place and it’s full of interesting people, even if it doesn’t feel like it is. Hold your head high and make a pact with yourself to meet at least three new people every week.

YOU’RE WORRIED ABOUT WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK

This one is quite broad. It can apply to many things, for example maybe you received negative feedback that ruined your day. Maybe you are afraid to meet new people or throw yourself into an experience because you’re scared of what people will think. Maybe you’re even (like me) planning a big event and worrying about how people who weren’t invited will take it.

This is going to sound harsh, but you need to stop giving a f-. Just like that famous book says, it’s all about realizing your mental energy is better elsewhere. People should know you don’t mean any harm by the things you do, and if they don’t give a f- too, they won’t be wasting time thinking about it either. If people judge you, that’s up to them. Everyone judges everyone. It’s human nature, so just be you and do what you want to do, be happy and enjoy every moment of it.

Likewise, if you’ve had negative feedback that has knocked your confidence, you need to develop a thicker skin and realize that’s one opinion, one piece of criticism, and the more you take the better you get at what you’re doing. No matter how it was packaged, if it was harsh, or soft and caring, it’s the same message. Take it into your head, not your heart, and come back stronger and better.

Difficult people are everywhere, like it or not. It’s pretty certain that at some point in your life, you’ll come across a challenging person and will have to find a way to deal with them. It would be easy to think, “Why bother?” if being around them causes you grief. But it’s not as easy as that. Sometimes we’re just forced into situations we have little control over.

Being related is one such circumstance. In fact, family members are often the hardest to deal with, because they’re connected to us in a more complicated, intimate way. With difficult acquaintances like friends, colleagues, lovers, or neighbors, you may have to deal with them for a time, either until a conflict between you is resolved, or you are able to remove yourself from the situation. With family, we are almost obligated to go the extra mile for the sake of the integrity of the family group. In other words, personal relationships may affect the family as a whole. If you don’t get along with a family member, it may very well put stress and strain on other familial relationships as well.

So what do you do with those people you may not like very much and may not choose to have in your life, but are forced to deal with because they’re family?

1. Don’t try to fix the difficult person.

Accept them exactly as they are. (This applies to all difficult people, not just family.) It’s tempting to try to help someone you want to care about; you probably will make some efforts to help them. Sometimes it works, but often your efforts will not be rewarded. In fact, trying to fix someone or make their life better may become a huge headache, since the more you do for them, the more they want from you. Accept that they are unable to change, at least at this point in time. Unless you see real change — proof that this person is making an effort to listen and meet you halfway — you can assume that their behavior is what it has always been. It’s important to temper your expectations about what others can and want to do.

2. Be present and direct.

Know that a person who is trying to stir up conflict can easily set you off emotionally, and even physically, possibly raising your heart rate and blood pressure. Try to avoid getting into a fight-or-flight response, which inevitably leads to becoming defensive. You do not want an argument or heated discussion. Stay true to yourself, grounded in your own integrity. Be direct and assertive when you express yourself. Stay focused on how you respond. Know when the discussion or argument has accelerated to the point of no return — meaning it’s no longer about conflict resolution, but just about winning. If it gets to this point, stop the interaction, and leave the conversation.

3. Do encourage difficult people to express themselves.

Let them fully state their point of view about the issue/conflict/problem without interruption. Why do they feel judged or criticized by others? What do they feel people misunderstand about them? What do they want or expect from others? The idea is to remain as neutral as possible. Just listening, rather than trying to engage, may be enough to allow someone to feel like they have the opportunity to say what’s on their mind. Showing respect for another’s differences may go a very long way.

4. Watch for trigger topics.

Inevitably there will be topics that represent points of disagreement and disharmony. Know what these topics are, and be extremely aware when these are brought up. Your past experiences should help you, especially when you are confronted with these delicate subjects. Be prepared to address these issues in a direct, non-confrontational way or to deflect the conflict if the atmosphere becomes too heated.

5. Know that some topics are absolutely off-limits.

Period. History and experiences should tell you that these subjects should be avoided at all costs. That’s not to say that important issues should be permanently avoided. Rather, if your experience dealing with certain issues has left you stressed out or emotionally depleted, and the discussion has not progressed sufficiently along to represent a rapprochement, then it’s best to avoid the discussion until a time when both parties are willing to move it forward in a constructive way.

6. It’s not about you — usually.

Yes, it’s hard not to take things personally, especially when you’re attacked or made to feel responsible for someone else. But if you look at the anatomy of a conflict, you can see how these often play out. Notice how people progressively move through a discussion or argument. Usually, it initially centers around a specific topic/disagreement/response that made a person upset. If allowed to continue, the argument can become heated, accelerating quickly to personal attacks (which often includes trying to make you feel responsible or guilty for not responding the way someone wants you to). If you have been through this kind of interaction before, make a concerted effort to imagine it unfolding before it actually does — and then nip it in the bud.

7. Your own well-being comes first.

While you want to be respectful and attentive to others as much as you can, you don’t want to bend over backwards or twist yourself into a knot just to make someone else happy or satisfied, or to keep the peace. Never allow any personal interaction or relationship to infringe upon or challenge your own well-being. Visualize your boundaries, that protective territory between you and someone else. No one is entitled to occupy your space unless you invite them in.

And then there’s that special situation where families gather together for a special occasion or holiday. it’s best to plan ahead so that you have a good idea about how time will be spent with relatives. Don’t leave too much unplanned time; you don’t want to get into a situation where you’re left alone with a difficult family member with whom you have an issue or conflict — someone who confronts, challenges, incites, aggravates, and basically pushes your buttons. Surround yourself with people you get along with, supportive people who care about you, people who are there to enjoy time together.

There’s an old joke that a consultant is someone who listens to the employees, tells management what they are saying and takes a fee for it. This is truer than most consultants would like to admit. If you want to solve a problem without paying a big consulting fee, learn to do three things:

  • Listen to yourself
  • Listen to your team
  • Do what makes sense

Yes, it’s really that simple–90 percent of advanced tools like process reengineering, project management and quality management are just common sense. My mom once asked me what I did for a living. When I explained it to her, she said, “but that’s just common sense.” I replied, “It’s because you call it common sense that I’m so good at it.” Good old mom!

The Common Sense Approach
1. Fix what you can, instead of blaming others. Sure the economy sucks, suppliers mess up, and customers are a royal pain. That is as true for your competitors as it is for you. What makes winners different is what we do about the problems we can solve, and how we inspire our team to take a can-do attitude and do good work.

2. Fix the right problem. Think like a doctor. You wouldn’t be happy if your doctor gave you stomach medicine for a heart condition. In business, though, we often fix the wrong problem. For example, when sales are low, we push the salespeople. Most likely, they’re already doing a good job, and the problem is in marketing. Remember: The cause of a problem is almost never where the symptom shows up. Find the cause and fix it; you can’t fix a symptom.

3. If the problem comes back, find out why, and fix it. Say you have some defective parts in your products. Getting rid of them isn’t enough. How do you know more defects won’t arrive with the next order? Instead:

  • Check with your supplier: How can they confirm that there will be no future defects?
  • Change your contract: Add a penalty for defective parts.
  • Change the way you choose suppliers: Go for quality, and prevent the problem.

Now that you know how to fix problems, you just need to find the problems that need fixing.

4. Find problems by complaining. I recommend complaining. There’s a great technique for finding your problems–and blowing off some stress–from Barbara Sher’s book WishCraft. She calls it the power of negative thinking. Stand in front of a friend and deliver a standup comedy routine titled What’s Wrong With My Business? Complain about everything. Be specific. Rant, rave and get it out of your system. Have your friend write down every complaint. There’s your list of problems. Now start solving them.

Which problem do you solve first? It doesn’t matter. If you have time and energy, fix the one that will be the biggest boost to your bottom line. If you’re running around like a chicken with your head cut off, then fix the one that is bugging you the most.

5. Listen to your team. Go to your team, and tell them you want to make a fresh start. Tell them you want them to enjoy their jobs more and get more done. Ask each person on the team for three problems that you can fix to make their lives easier. If you haven’t done this before, it may take a while before they take you seriously, but you’ll get there. And when you do, you’ll find that after you help them, they’ll be ready to help you.

6. Your business works best once you’ve fixed the pipes. Be the plumber for your business. When you fix all big leaks, things start to flow. When you fix all the small problems, profits shoot through the roof. What flows in a business? Products, services, and solutions flow to your customers and money flows to you.

I hope you’re not in business just to make money. The purpose of a business should be to do what we love, love what we do, make our customers happier and better off, and the world a better place. But money is the measure of a business. Track money–gross revenue, expenses and net revenue–to find what is working, and what is not.

How to fix a trouble area in your life

Sometimes people ask me: “What can I pray to save my marriage? What words will bring my spouse back? Is there a prayer for a troubled marriage?”

Sometimes, it’s hard to pray . Especially when you don’t know what to say , you don’t have the strength , and honestly, you aren’t sure that it’s going to make a difference

Maybe you aren’t a religious person , but you have been grasping at anything you can to bring peace into your life again…this is for you, too.

I get it. I’ve been there, too. And there’s nothing worse than feeling completely helpless and waiting for something to happen – especially when you have no control. When your life is in the midst of chaos , it’s hard to see anything but the middle of the storm that you are in.

I want to encourage you today that God hears your prayers for your marriage. He works all things together for good for those who love Him.

We can’t see the big picture right now. But one day, we will. And we will see how, once again, it all worked out for our good. I don’t have a concoction of magic words for you that will make everything right overnight. No one does.

But if you need some help in finding the words to pray, I wanted to give this to guide you:

God, I know that You are good , even though I can’t see the good right now. I know that You love me, even though I don’t feel You right now. God, please come closer to me. Fill me with Your Spirit. Rid my heart of the anger and hurt I have towards my spouse. Surround me with comfort, strength, and wisdom . Pour Your love into me , into my spouse , and into my marriage . Help me to wait . Be with me in the waiting.

I want to invite you to see what God might be showing you through all of this. Even if you feel alone, He hasn’t abandoned you. Even if you feel weak, that is where His strength comes in. If you feel like He isn’t answering, stay the course.

And while you wait:

  • Look for others you can encourage in your life. It’s easy to get wrapped up in all of our own troubles…but there are so many others out there struggling as well. We need each other.
  • Be extra mindful of the blessings you do have in your life. There are probably many ways that God is answering prayers in other areas, but our tunnel-vision on our current situation keeps us from seeing it.

If you need prayers for your marriage, we want to pray for you. If you need to talk, we will talk with you . We will listen. We will encourage. There IS hope for your situation (maybe even when no one else will tell you).

Your refrigerator is arguably one of the most important appliances in your home – after all, it keeps your food from spoiling, saving you from many trips to the grocery store. However, refrigerators are not indestructible. They suffer from daily wear-and-tear just like other home appliances. While some problems are more serious than others, many can be solved by a quick fix without the help of a refrigerator repair technician. However, before you can fix the problem, it is important that you pinpoint its source.

Pay attention to the symptoms exhibited by your refrigerator in order to find the source of the problem. Then refer to our guide below on quick fixes that don’t require you to call a professional or purchase a new fridge entirely. It may just be a case of simply unplugging and re-plugging or purchasing some replacement parts.

Water Leaking on the Floor

Not only is this problem dangerous to people who are walking around your kitchen, but it is also a little bit tricky to solve as it can be caused by a couple of things. Luckily, the two most common causes have a quick and easy fix that usually don’t require the help of a professional.

One cause of water leaking onto the floor is a blocked de-frost drain. The defrost drain is typically located on the back wall of the freezer, right above the slope from the floor to the back. A buildup in food particles or debris can clog the drain hose, leading to ice buildup and water leaking out of the freezer and fridge. To fix this, try draining the hole from the inside using warm water. Use a long, slender instrument such as a pipe cleaner or turkey baster to remove the clog.

If this doesn’t get the job done, you might have to manually remove the buildup that is clogging the valve at the end of the drain hose. Locate the defrost drain hose in the back of the service panel by pulling your fridge away from the wall. This hose should have a rubber valve that helps catch debris and prevent clogging. Wash the valve with hot water and soap then reinstall.

A clogged or frozen water supply can also cause water to leak on the floor and puddle under your fridge. This can also prevent the icemaker and water dispense from working properly. In order to fix this, unplug the refrigerator and locate the shut-off valve. This could be located underneath your sink, behind the fridge, or below the fridge in a basement or crawl space. Once you locate it, make sure the shut-off valve is closed and check for any problems in the plastic supply line. If it is broken or torn, you need to replace the water supply line.

If your water line is damaged, you can still use your refrigerator to keep your food cold, you just won’t be able to use the ice or water dispenser.

Freezer Isn’t Cold Enough

Is your perishable food spoiling quickly or are you just noticing that your freezer isn’t as frosty as it should be? This is a common problem that is usually an easy fix. If you notice this problem in your freezer unit, check if the back wall of the freezer is cold.

If it is cold, check if you can hear the evaporator fan running or if you can feel air flowing from the freezer vents. If you can’t then it is most likely a problem concerning the freezer evaporator fan. If you can feel the air flowing and hear the fan running, you should check on the refrigerator’s compressor. Clean any dust that could be preventing air from moving across the coils. These are condenser coils that release heat from inside the fridge into the room. If your condenser coils are clean, it may be time to invest in that spiffy French door refrigerator you’ve had your eye on.

Unit is Cycling Too Often

Nobody likes a noisy fridge. Not only is it inconvenient because of the constant noise, but it can also cause your energy bill to run high, taking quite the toll on your wallet. There are a few things that can cause your fridge unit to cycle too often – one being a buildup of debris or dust around the condenser coils.

To fix this, you want to begin by unplugging your fridge. The condenser coils are usually located on the very bottom of your fridge and can be accessed from the front or the back. To find the condenser coils, first locate the “grill” and remove it by popping out the snaps that hold it in place. After doing this, use a small vacuum to remove the buildup of dust or debris around the condenser coils. You may even need to use a cloth to remove any buildup in those hard-to-access places. Once all of the debris and dust is removed, put the grill back on and plug the refrigerator back in. Problem solved!

Another common cause of your refrigerator unit cycling too often is setting the temperature too low. Not only will this cause some of your food to spoil, but it also results in the refrigerator working overtime. A good rule of thumb is to set your fridge temperature at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure that you are checking the thermostat on your refrigerator from time to time to ensure that it is running at the correct temperature. If this doesn’t resolve the problem, it may be time to call in a repair technician as it might be the case of a defective part such as a condenser fan motor or thermostat sensor.

Fresh Food Compartment Is Warming Up

Before we can discuss the solution to this problem, it is important to understand the connection between your refrigerator and your freezer unit. Typically, the cold air generated by refrigerators comes from the freezer unit, which then flows into the fresh food section of your fridge. Therefore, if your fresh food compartment is warming up, it is most likely because you have an airflow problem.

Your freezer contains an evaporator fan that is responsible for moving the cold air from the freezer into the fresh food compartment in the fridge. This air moves through a diffuser, which is located in the back of the fresh food section of your fridge. If you can hear the evaporator fan running or can feel air blowing from the freezer vents and are still facing an issue, your diffuser duct may be clogged with ice. This is preventing air from passing through and is oftentimes caused by the door being left open for a long period of time.

However, if you can’t hear the evaporator fan running or hear an uncommon humming noise, you most likely need to invest in a new motor for your evaporator fan.
