How to focus and concentrate better to boost productivity

Being productive in life is very important, but it’s much easier said than done. When it comes to productivity, two things have the most impact on it. Those two things are focus and concentration. However, if there are things that impact focus and concentration as well, where’s the end of this entire thing? We know, it’s like a tree of lifestyle choices that all add up towards being a more creative, productive, and tireless person. It might sound complicated to achieve, but when you understand how our body works, it’s not that difficult.

In today’s article we’ll talk about some of the things that you can do to improve your productivity at work, and while doing your daily chores in everyday life, so without any further ado, let’s take a look at what you need to know.

Improve your sleeping schedule

We’ll start with the most important thing, which is sleeping. An average person should be sleeping at least eight hours per night, in a dark and moderately cold environment, because these conditions are considered to be the best for proper recovery. How much sleep you’ll require will heavily depend on your lifestyle, but don’t let this trick you. If you have a sedentary job and you’re not exercising regularly, it doesn’t mean that you can overwork yourself psychically and sleep less than the average person. Sometimes psychical work tires the mind a lot more than physical.

Those with a bad sleeping schedule will always be less productive and their focus will drop in the middle of something, so make sure that you fix yours as the first and most important step.

Reduce stress to the bare minimum

Stress is the number one enemy of both our minds and bodies, and although it sounds a bit cliché, multiple studies have already confirmed this in the past. Stress has an impact on your decision-making skills, and it induces chemical changes in your body that you cannot go against. When you’re under stress, the levels of cortisol rise, and they can “cloud” your ability to think properly. Make sure that you get rid of it if you want to be more productive and happier in life.

Improve your diet & supplements

Everything begins from our diet, which is why we strongly recommend that you pay the most attention and put in the most effort to fix yours. Without the proper nutrients in your body, you cannot recover from any type of work, regardless if it’s easy to do or not. You don’t have to do any extreme changes to your eating plan, simply make sure that all you are consuming is healthy.

If you require some extra help, supplements can always be of huge use to you. Thanks to technology and modern medicine, the supplements that we have today are more effective than ever. For more information, you can take a look at this useful guide from Vaga.

Try not to be dependent on caffeine

Coffee is considered to be the modern-day ambrosia for a reason. People depend on it, and as much as it’s a good thing, it has its negative sides as well. Coffee is great and it can be healthy when consumed in moderation, but are people consuming it in moderation? The answer is no. Those who tend to overwork themselves and constantly do overtime are usually chugging down more than five or six coffees per day, and that’s a lot more than what’s recommended. Also, you shouldn’t use it as an energy booster before every activity, because the body has a way of creating tolerance for the main ingredient which is caffeine, and over time it’ll have a much worse effect on you.
So, not overconsuming and drinking coffee in moderation will make sure that your tolerance levels remain the same, so every time you drink it you’ll have a benefit from it, rather than just mindlessly consuming it.

Check if you’re overworking yourself

As we mentioned above, we are not robots, so no matter how perfectly we’ve arranged our life to be as productive as possible, overworking and fatigue will get us sooner or later. Make sure that your work is split into achievable “blocks”, and don’t try to accomplish everything in a day. Remember that consistency will help you accomplish a lot more since being productive in life is a marathon, not a sprint.

Be real and patient

Are you asking too much from yourself? Are you trying to complete things that are impossible to complete in the given time? You need to constantly ask yourself these questions because it’s easy to “blur reality” with your thoughts. Everybody wants to be successful and everybody wants to achieve that overnight, but is it possible? We don’t think so. Patience is a difficult skill to master, but once you master it, you can go a long way with it.

Activities that allow you to train patience

Last but not least, the more you train your concentration and focus, the more productive you’ll become in the long-run. However, to be able to train this properly, you’ll need to add some activities in your life which allow you to do so. A few examples are playing games that require a lot of focus and thinking, such as chess, Sudoku, maze-solving, and many others. You can also try to solve riddles and puzzles because these are activities that are proven to increase your cognitive skill. You can do all of these in moderation and still get amazing results. Thirty minutes of productive work per day is more than enough.

Conclusion

How much we can achieve during our life depends entirely on ourselves. Nobody else can limit what we can do, but to be great, we have to make the right lifestyle choices. Our body is not a robot, and it’s a very complicated living thing that performs better the more you take care of it. In today’s guide, we’ve listed some of the things that you can do that’ll make you’re a great performer in life, so feel free to check it out.

Mastering skills for focus and productivity can take a lifetime. Let’s add that 2020, COVID, and 2021 insurrection did not make productivity any easier. To be fair, January is just an extension of 2020 in our book. Maybe you have a project looming over your head and thought to click on this post for some motivation and hacks. Perhaps, you helping kids with online learning and trying to also meet deadlines at work.

We have put a list together of 8 useful tools to boost your productivity and focus because it isn’t always easy. Melissa and Holly have first hand knowledge of how paralyzing it can be to strive for complete perfection, even in the best of times. (This post has even taken some time because of a battle for perfection.) Try some of these tips and remember that doing something messy is better than doing nothing at all.

1. Organize Your Space to Boost Focus and Productivity

Before you start working, organize your space to help you focus. Choosing where to work is a bigger decision than it seems. Are you a coffee shop worker, suddenly without a cofee shop? Do you listen to music? OR do you need to work at your desk in complete silence? The workspace can also be seen as an extension of the mind. If the space is cluttered, you may feel distracted or anxious. Moreover, creating an environment that works for you can be just as important as the work you are doing, even if it is a small space in the corner of a shared room.

A productive working session often starts with an organized workspace in an environment that works for you. Although you may not think you have the time, invest a few minutes of your time in preparing your work environment. It will be worth it. Purchase a desk organizer or filing cabinet. Then, set the temperature so you’re comfortable or bring items to help you be comfortable and alert at the coffee shop or in your office. If you are someone who easily feels cold, be sure to bring a sweater or blanket. Remember not to make yourself so comfortable that you sacrifice your focus because the goal is to be alert.

2. Have a Morning Meeting With Yourself

While you’re investing time in preparing your work environment, take some time to have a staff meeting with yourself. What do you hope to accomplish in this work session? What are your goals for the week? Take a moment to practice some mindfulness. Maybe even start off with a quick meditation for a minute or two to set an intention for your work. It’s one of the best ways to boost productivity and focus. You might also want to write down a phrase relating to your intention to stay centered and place it in your workspace as a reminder if you start to get distracted. Play some music too. Are you someone who needs classical instrumental or will some fast-paced rock keep you focused?

Strategize and Plan Your Time

Additionally, organize your time. Decide how much time you think you will need to accomplish each task and then plan it out. Don’t forget to schedule in some breaks for snacks and stretching. If it’s the beginning of your work week, use the time to strategize a plan for your week. Here at FP, Melissa often uses the time to set weekly workout goals, in addition to creating her daily and weekly task completion list. Melissa and Holly love the good old to-do list.

Having a strategy meeting with yourself won’t just help you plan out your goals and tasks. It also can help your focus and productivity by serving as a cue that it is time to work. Additionally, make it a habit to strategize with yourself daily and make it part of your routine. It can also help you stay prepared for virtual and in-person learning and work duringt his back to school season. (For more, check out our post on virtual learning and transitioning back to school)…OR also be prepared for whatever 2020 throws at us next.

There’s more to fragrance than scent: It’s a gateway to memories, experiences, and emotions. Our sensory system is connected to the emotional center of the brain. So, if you wore your favorite perfume on a first date, a spritz might conjure up romantic feelings even after the event has passed.

This scent-memory link can also be used to boost your mood and alertness. If you associate your morning cup of tea with reading the news or the smell of coffee with working hard on a deadline, a scented candle can trigger those memories and have a similar effect. To prove they’re more than just décor, we found six science-backed relaxing candle scents that can boost your mood, soothe nerves, improve attention, and more. Light ’em up.

Jasmine

Feeling anxious about a deadline? Floral scents such as jasmine have been used in traditional aromatherapy rituals for centuries, and there’s a good reason for that. Researchers Kandhasamy Sowndhararajan and Songmun Kim found that the smell of jasmine could increase a positive mood state and the brain’s beta wave activity.

Use Jasmine as your go-to desktop candle fragrance for high-stress days.

How to focus and concentrate better to boost productivity

Practical application of spiritual practices for work is nothing new. After all, meditation has gone from “woo woo” to a common spiritual practice among some of the most successful entrepreneurs. But if you are looking to take spirituality to the next level, crystals can help elevate your mindset.

Like meditation, there is a science behind the energy of crystals. It’s called the Piezoelectric effect. Ever wonder why watches are marketed as having quartz movement? That’s because quartz helps watches keep time properly. Quartz is also used in computer and radio components.

According to Courtney Abbiati, who is the cofounder of The Urban + The Mystic, everyone should keep crystals on their desk. She sees this as an opportunity to bring healing energy to your life. While different spaces need different things, she says, “The one thing that remains the same, regardless of occupation, is that everyone wants their work to bring them prosperity and joy.”

Those on the fence should know that crystals can also work psychosomatically. Just having the choice to perform a crystal ritual, either through intention setting or taking a short break from work, can help boost your productivity in spades. Whether you’re an entrepreneur or part of a large corporation (and trying to move your way up the ladder), here are some crystals to keep on your desk as well as the best ways to use them.

Black Tourmaline

If you are just starting to use crystals and you only want to keep one on your desk, black tourmaline should be it. This crystal is particularly beneficial for people who work in large office environments with lots of different energies. Do you have a coworker next to you who talks loudly on the phone all day long? Or worse, complains about you to your manager? Black tourmaline is said to protect you from that negative energy.

This Just Might Be The Worst Way To Ask Someone To Mentor You

Black tourmaline also shields against electromagnetic radiation fields (EMFs) that are emitted from computers, cell phones and especially Wi-Fi. These waves can trigger stress, anxiety, and fatigue, none of which you want to particularly experience at work. Avoiding EMFs entirely is impossible, but keeping a crystal on your desk is an effortless way to reduce your exposure. Even a small tumble stone on your laptop can help.

Malachite

According to Abbiati, malachite helps us let go of behaviors and things that no longer serve us. It’s a transformational stone that she says lets fresh ideas come to the surface. “What better energy to have in your office than something that keeps you vibrant and moving forward?”

Green Aventurine

Are you trying to get more green in your life? Whether it’s a big promotion, a bonus or a signed contract that lands you more money in the bank, green aventurine can help attract it. This stone is said to put you in the mindset to receive and attract prosperity into your life. It also helps improve creativity and optimism.

Pyrite

Pyrite looks like a giant piece of gold and can be just as valuable. “Another incredible stone for your office, which I often recommend people place on their desk, is pyrite,” says Abbiati. “If a life coach were a crystal, it would be pyrite. This warrior stone helps motivate you, strengthen your willpower and determination. It pushes out negative vibes and ushers in success and prosperity.”

Smoky Quartz

Is there too much going on in your life right now? No matter what is clouding your headspace, we all know too much throws us off balance. That’s when smoky quartz comes in.

Stop what you’re doing, take a break and give yourself a moment with this stone. Hold the crystal between your hands. Close your eyes. Think about what’s really important and prioritize. Take care of that proposal for next hour and worry about next week’s meeting later.

Then open your eyes and reset. Smoky quartz will help to reduce anxiety, stress and anything else that hinders you from focusing on the task at hand. You can now move forward in a more grounded state.

Citrine

Citrine is a great crystal to integrate into your morning routine. When you arrive at your desk, hold the crystal and set intentions and goals for the day. Think about what you need to do in the long and short term. It’s time to get into a manifestation mindset. Then write it all out. Do this every single day.

Amazonite

Is communication becoming a nightmare? Does the team you’re leading just not understand what it is you need them to do? If group projects have your head in a tailspin, amazonite can be a game changer. This stone is connected to your heart and throat chakras and will re-open the lines of communication making you a more effective leader.

Tiger’s Eye

Do you have a big presentation coming up that’s making you anxious? Do you need to feel more confident in your abilities? Keeping a small tiger’s eye in your pocket can give you the courage you need to succeed.

Selenite

Selenite is a powerful crystal with many purposes. One use is charging all of your other crystals. Buy a selenite charging plate for your desk to keep all your other crystals on. It will also allow your crystal collection to stay neat and organized.

Selenite cleanses energy, making it especially useful in an office with lots of different people and personalities all in one place. You can also combine a selenite stick with citrine to help release any financial blockages.

Similarly, as with having a playlist to tune in to when you need to think, having a physical spot that achieves something very similar will likewise place you in the correct temper to be more engaged.

How to focus and concentrate better to boost productivity

No matter what Law of Attraction goals you’ve set, there’s a good chance that you often wonder how you could be more productive.

Maybe you suffer from a mid-afternoon slump and find yourself suddenly exhausted, or perhaps you find you just can’t focus sometimes.

Of course, there are traditional solutions like having a nap or downing a cup of coffee. However, there are healthier, quicker, and more effective ways to boost your productivity and enhance your energy naturally.

Here are some of the most powerful changes you can make to bring positive energy into your life.

Increase Exposure To Natural Light

If you’re feeling overwhelmed or anxious, it can be tempting to curl up inside and close the blinds.

However, if you can bring yourself to go for regular walks and sit by your window during the daylight hours, you’ll likely notice a marked increase in your productivity. This is because natural light regulates the hormones that determine whether you feel alert and active, even if it’s not sunny outside.

Mood lamps and the artificial sunlight produced by lightboxes can also help you feel more energetic and focused if you’re not able to get as much natural light as you would like.

Get Some Exercise

You already know that working out helps to enhance your cardiovascular health, but it also plays a role in improving sleep quality (which in turn influences how productive you are during the day).

For example, one recent research paper explained how those who exercise for an hour a day five days a week get more hours of sleep per night and tend to feel more rested. When you exercise, you also prompt the release of endorphins that boost your mood. And when you’re happy you’re more likely to get things done!

How to focus and concentrate better to boost productivity

Set Time Limits For Tasks

No matter how much you love your life or your job, there are bound to be some things that you just don’t enjoy doing and that you tend to want to avoid. One way to get through these tasks (and get to more pleasurable activities) is to commit to working for short bursts.

One popular approach involves 25-minutes of work and then a 5-minute break, repeated four times before a long 15-minute break is taken. This way, you know that the boring task is time-limited, and you’re more likely to be strict with yourself (rather than falling into the black hole of the Internet).

Take Steps To Combat Stress

Studies show that 2 in 5 Americans report exhaustion and fatigue as a result of high-stress levels. This certainly puts a dent in productivity. Consequently, one of the smartest things you can do is evaluate and amend your strategies for dealing with stress.

Everyone has different preferences here, but there a few standard stress-busters that work well for most people.

For example, if you add 10 minutes of meditation to the daily creative visualization work you do when using the Law of Attraction, you may reduce not only stress levels but also your risk of suffering from depression or anxiety. Meanwhile, taking up yoga is a great way to slow racing thoughts and increase physical flexibility at the same time.

Evaluate Your Diet

What you eat can also contribute to whether you have a productive day. In particular, foods with high-fat content are proven to decrease energy levels and reduce resilience in the face of stress.

In contrast, high-fiber foods, fruits, and vegetables are all great at keeping energy levels fairly constant. As a bonus, there is some evidence that they can improve immune system function.

Make Some Plans The Night Before

You can start your day on the right foot if you set the preconditions for productivity the previous evening.

For example, you might write out a “to do” list of tasks and stick it to the fridge or leave it on your desk so that you immediately know what you’re doing (rather than having to figure it out as you slowly wake up).

It’s often a good idea to start with a task that’s easy, then have the second task be one of the less pleasant ones so that you can spend the rest of the day on things that inspire you or that you find easier to focus on.

Don’t Work Yourself Into The Ground

Finally, there’s such an important difference between being productive and draining your resources. While it’s great to meet your goals, work hard and create a life you love, it’s impossible to really enjoy that life if you don’t take time to replenish yourself and genuinely relax.

For example, try to make sure you carve out some time per day just for pursuing a favorite hobby for its own sake. Plus, remember that it’s okay to say “no” to extra commitments if you already have too much on your plate.

Knowing your own limits is key to long-term productivity.
