How to make your twitter account private

By default, when you Tweet, you’re broadcasting it to the world. You could make a bad joke to your 170 followers, get on a plane, and by the time you land, find out your Tweet went viral and now you’re out of a job—that’s literally what happened to Justine Sacco. Whatever you say on Twitter is in the public record. That is, unless you make your Twitter account private.

On Twitter, Tweets are either Public or Protected. Public Tweets can be seen by everyone. Protected Tweets can only be seen by that person’s followers; they can’t even be Retweeted. If you change your account from Public to Protected, all your previous Tweets become Protected too.

How to Protect Your Twitter Account

Log in to Twitter and then head to the Settings page. You can get there by clicking on the small circular profile picture icon in the top right and then clicking Settings and Privacy.

Next, from the menu on the left, select Privacy and Safety.

Then check the checkbox that says Protect My Tweets.

Scroll down to the bottom and click Save Changes.

Finally, enter your password and click Save Changes again.

And that’s it, your account is now private.

How to Approve New Followers

With a private account, new people won’t be able to follow you. Instead, they’ll have to send you a Follow Request. When that happens, you’ll get a notification.

How to make your twitter account private

Click View Now to see a list of all your pending Follow Requests.

You can then Accept or Decline them as you want.

Protecting your Tweets changes the way you use Twitter. It’s no longer a public discussion forum. It’s just a place for you and your Followers. This means that if you reply to an account that isn’t following you—even if it’s a public account—they won’t see your Tweet. This is the trade off with turning your account private.

The internet is full of trolls and people who have seemingly nothing better to do than to leave offensive comments on publicly-posted social media posts. This has become such a huge problem that many big-name celebrities have actually been bullied off social media platforms where they’d rather close their social media accounts rather than deal with these comments.

This doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t use social media, but rather if you do use it, it might be a better idea to make it a private profile so that only people you know and trust can see your posts, thus preventing your posts from being abused by random strangers online.

If you use Twitter, making your profile private is quick and easy and here’s how you can do it on both mobile and on your computer.

Making your Twitter profile private on your computer

  1. Go to Twitter and log into your accountHow to make your twitter account private
  2. Click More on the sidebar on the left
  3. Click Settings and privacyHow to make your twitter account private
  4. Select Your account > Account informationHow to make your twitter account private
  5. Click Protected TweetsHow to make your twitter account private
  6. Check the box under Protect your Tweets

Making your Twitter profile private on your phone

  1. Launch the Twitter app on your phone and log into your account
  2. Tap your profile photo at the top left corner
  3. Select Settings and privacy
  4. Select Privacy and safety
  5. Toggle on Protect your Tweets

Now that your Twitter account has been made private, it means that your tweets will no longer be visible to the public. Your tweets will now only be visible to people who already follow you, and moving forwards, people who want to follow you will have to send you a request that you can choose to approve or deny.

However, as Twitter notes, it is possible that your tweets can still be captured via screenshot and shared publicly by someone else, so it’s not exactly the most perfect scenario, but it should still be good enough if you’d rather avoid having random strangers on the internet see and comment on your tweets.

Twitter is the best place to express your opinion and connect with the world. In several circumstances, we found how effectively people used it to organize protests and making public awareness on social issues.

Everyone wants to be famous on social media. We are taking maximum efforts to increase the number of followers and social reach. An account with maximum followers will have a higher influence rate which will help you in building your own identity and online reputation.

On the other hand, there are a few people who will be not interested in expanding their network and social reach. They are satisfied with the current followers that they personally know and want to stay away from strangers. Is it possible to remain private in social networks?

Creating a Private Twitter account

Today we’ll tell you how to make your Twitter account private.

1. Hide your tweets

Sign in to your Twitter account first.

Open Settings & visit the Privacy and safety section.

Under Privacy settings, you will find an option to protect your tweets.

Check the option to hide your tweets from the public. A protected tweet can be seen only by your followers.

If anyone tries to view a protected account, they will get this kind of message.

2. Approve or reject new followers

Since your tweets are private, you will be notified is someone tries to follow you. You can either approve or reject their request.

Once you approved, new followers will be able to see your protected tweets. But they can’t use the Retweet button on them to retweet or quote tweet your tweets as they are private.

3. Not searchable

Protected tweets will not appear in third-party search engines like Google and only be searchable on Twitter by the account holder and his or her followers.

The replies you sent to the followers are visible to them as normal. But you can’t send a reply to an account that’s not following you as they are outside of your private network.

4. Exceptions

Do remember these two things when you are making an account private.

  • If you have authorized a third-party application to manage your account, it may be able to see your protected tweets.
  • When you share a link in a protected tweet, it will be automatically converted to a http://t.co link which is viewable by anyone.

5. Location

Go through other privacy settings to manage the remaining parts as well. If you don’t want to add a location to tweets, uncheck ‘Tweet with a location’ option.

6. Limit photo tagging

People can tag you in their photos. Limit photo tagging to the people only you follow for better online privacy. Choose the last option ‘ Do not allow anyone to tag you in photos’ to disable photo tagging completely.

7. Manage your communications

Twitter users can search for you with your email address and phone number. If you want to disable the feature, uncheck both the options in the Discoverability part.

Scroll down again to manage Direct Messages settings. Twitter allows you to receive messages from anyone even though you don’t follow them. Uncheck the option to stop receiving such unknown messages. Still, people you follow can interact with you through direct messages and tweets.

For many of us using social media, we like to post our content for everyone to see. But, for some people, a private account is a better choice. With the risks that come with using the internet, it’s understandable that some of us will want to keep our social media accounts private.

On the other hand, OnlyFans provides a range of options to help allow you to make your account as private – or as public – as you wish. And whether or not you choose to make your account private, you can still be sure to connect with your loyal fanbase, share your exclusive content and make money from your passion.

Putting your account in private mode doesn’t mean that you can’t have any engagement on your profile. Also, it doesn’t mean that you can’t succeed as an OnlyFans creator. In fact, the opposite is true! With a private account, you’re more likely to engage with a smaller, but loyal audience who value you and the work that you do.

Benefits of a private account as an OnlyFans creator

  • You’d have an increase in privacy on your account
  • You have the freedom to control who (and who doesn’t) follow you, so you can be highly selective
  • You can view content without anyone being aware of your activity status, so you can’t be easily tracked or observed by other users.
  • You’ll probably have a smaller, but genuine audience who’ll engage with you
  • You can post content for your eyes only.

So, how do I make my OnlyFans content private?

Thanks to the restrictive tools and content protections available on OnlyFans, you can pick and choose what you let people see on your profile. First of all, you can restrict and block users to stop them from viewing or engaging with your content, commenting on your posts or sending you a personal direct message. These tools allow you to take the power into your hands as a content creator.

Second of all, you can alter the visibility of your OnlyFans page. You can do this by enabling or disabling your activity status, your fan count, your media count, your friends’ list and the text on your profile. You can make these changes in Settings.

However, if you want to make your OnlyFans account completely private, you’ll need to log in to your account, click on ‘Settings’, click on ‘Privacy and safety’, then select to enable ‘Fully private profile.’ This is a good option if you want to completely hide your content from public view, while allowing your loyal subscribers to see your exclusive content.

As an OnlyFans creator, do you keep your account private or public? Let us know in the comments section below!

Your Twitter account will tell advertisers what you search for, unless you change certain settings.

After the latest Twitter hack , you may have been spurred to action to lock down your Twitter account by enabling two-factor authorization and use a strong and unique password . Such security measures will make it harder for hackers to get into your Twitter account, but there’s also a privacy side to Twitter’s settings — separate from security — that lets you control what information Twitter itself is allowed to share about you.

Twitter isn’t shy about sharing information with its business partners (read: advertisers) about you and your browsing habits. It passes on your data to help serve targeted ads on your feed, and it also collection information about you when you visit a site that has an embedded tweet or Twitter share button.

I turned them all off, but there are granular controls for ad personalization on Twitter itself and data Twitter can collect from your browsing history if you want to find a middle ground between keeping your data private and getting a more personalized Twitter experience.

If you head back to the Privacy and safety page in Settings, you’ll see a Location setting if you are using Twitter on your phone where you can disable Precise location. Toggling this setting off prevents Twitter from using your phone’s GPS to tailor the ads it serves you.

See what data Twitter has collected about you

Twitter also has an area where you can see the demographic, geographic and other ad-targeting data it has collected about you. Head to the Personalization and data page in settings, scroll to the bottom and tap See your Twitter data. Here, you can view and edit Your Profile but the better information can be found on the Interests and ad data tab.
