Love it or hate it, when you use Google Cast to cast content to your big screen, a notification usually pops up on every Android device on the network. While this is great because it allows you to quickly pause, mute, or stop the media from playing, it also allows troublesome roommates and significant others to mess with you. Now, Google is allowing you to turn these notifications off.
Spotted by Android Police, Google has updated its Cast media controls support page with a section on how to completely disable the network controls. As of this writing though, the setting to turn them off is not yet live. Expect a server-side update to roll out over the next couple of weeks.
How to turn off network-wide Cast media control notifications
- Open the Google Home app
- In the top right corner of the Home screen, tap Devices to see available Chromecast devices.
- Scroll to find the device card for the Chromecast you’d like to prevent sending cast notifications.
- In the top right corner of the device card, tap the device card menu
- Under Device info, turn “Let others control your casted media” off

Breaking news for Android. Get the latest on apps, carriers, devices, and more!
If you're new to Android, Chrome, or anything related to Google, it can sometimes be a little difficult getting yourself familiar with the platforms. That's why we created Android Basics!
Recently, Chromecasts have developed a strange quirk. When you cast something from your phone to your TV, every single device on your network will get a notification to control it. If you find this annoying, here’s how to turn it off.
The network-wide notification is presumably a solution to a problem that Chromecasts have had since they first arrived on the scene. Namely, you don’t have a remote control you can just pick up and pause with. If one person’s device is connected to the Chromecast, you can control it with that, but they have a nasty habit of disconnecting if you don’t use them for too long. To remedy that problem, this new network-wide notification gives everyone basic controls.
The downside to this solution is, well, everyone has the notification. Even if you’re not watching TV, you get the notification, which is annoying. You’re also handing control over your stream to anyone in the house. While technically anyone on the network can take over the Chromecast at any time, this makes it easier to mess with other people’s streams, and it broadcasts to everyone that you’re watching something unnecessarily. To turn this feature off, follow these steps:
- When the network-wide notification appears, swipe down on it with two fingers.
- Tap the Settings icon.
- Disable the toggle that reads “Show remote control notifications.”
Alternatively, you can disable it entirely under Settings > Google > Google Cast in your phone’s Settings app. Both methods will remove the notification entirely.
In a bit of an odd move 7 months ago, Google decided to add network-wide notification controls to Android and Chromecast devices.
It is a simple idea, really. If you are on a network with any casted media occurring, everyone else on the same network gets a little notification with some basic controls for the media right on their phone.
And, in many situations, I’ve found this feature to be handy.
One of the missteps was Google not really explaining what it was and how to dismiss it without turning off the casting session. Without knowing what it was or why it suddenly appeared, users were very confused as to what was going on and why their phone was showing play/pause controls for something they didn’t even know was playing.
Additionally, though a simple swipe would remove the notification (as Android has always done), there was also an ‘X’ up top that most people clicked. That click would simply kill the casting session. The user would be free of the notification, but the people actually enjoying the casting media would immediately see their playback halted.
Now You Can Remove This
Though Google has changed some of the language in the notification, the feature has still been under fire and simply turning it off has been requested many times.
It seems Google has listened and delivered a way to fully remove this notification on a per-Chromecast basis. Via the Google Home app, you can select the device and, in the settings, you will see this toggle now available.
Turn this off and your casting session goes back to the semi-private status it once was before all this notification business was even a thing. You are welcome.

The Google Chromecast is a handy, inexpensive little device that you can plug into the HDMI port of your television and use to access and stream video content from online sources like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, the Google Play Store, and other sources. Normally, a Chromecast is a plug-in-and-forget piece of hardware; once you have it set up, you just leave it on your TV until you replace one or the other of them.
However, there are some circumstances where you might want to unplug your Chromecast. For example, you may be traveling or relocating temporarily and you want to take your Chromecast with you for use on the trip. Or perhaps you will be away for a while and don’t want other people or devices to be able to access your Chromecast. Fortunately, the Google Chromecast device is easy to turn on and easy to turn off as well.
In this article, I will show you a few different ways you can turn off or disable your Google Chromecast. I’ll also tell you how you can disable Chromecast remote notifications as well as dismiss them.
Turn off Your Chromecast by Unplugging the AC Adaptor
The simplest way to turn off your Google Chromecast device is to unplug the AC adapter connected to it. If your Chromecast is plugged in, it will stay connected to the Wi-Fi connection you’ve associated with it.
Maybe you’re away at University or College or traveling abroad and you’ve brought your Chromecast device along for entertainment purposes. You wouldn’t want others seeing your Chromecast broadcasting its signal showing up as a nearby device that they can access. You probably don’t want anyone trying to access or hack into your Google Chromecast device either as that’s a security risk.
These situations are good examples of times where you would want to completely unplug your Google Chromecast device, powering it completely down.
When You Should Leave Your Chromecast On
When you’re at home on a secure network connection, you should leave your Google Chromecast on. The reason to leave your Chromecast plugged into your HDMI port and connected to an AC wall plug is for updates to get delivered.
Since you want your Chromecast device to be up to date with all the latest features and security patches then, you’ll want to leave it connected.
Turn Off Chromecast Remote Notifications
Network-wide notifications give you the ability to use any your connected Android devices as a remote for your Google Chromecast. While it’s a good thought, it could also be annoying to some people, because there may be multiple Android devices on your Internet connection and the wrong people could get the notifications. They could even take over your cast, which would be intrusive and frustrating.
You can either dismiss these notifications or disable them.
To dismiss notifications on your Android device just swipe them away.
To disable the Chromecast notifications on all other Android devices running Android version 5 and above, go through the following steps:
- When you receive a Chromecast remote notification, tap on the gear-shaped Setting icon.
- Next, toggle the slider to the left to turn off Show Remote Control Notifications.
That’s. it. Now network-wide system notifications won’t get displayed on other Android devices in your vicinity.
The Google Chromecast is a relatively inexpensive media streaming device that enables you to stream from many different apps. Here’s a list of Chromecast enabled apps in the Google Apps Store. You can even use your tablet as a remote control to control your Chromecast.
The Google Chromecast is also one of the most portable devices as it’s small and easy to travel with. Whether you use it from room to room within your house or decide to bring it along on a trip, it’s very convenient. Turning your Google Chromecast off by disconnecting it from an HDMI port and unplugging it from a wall outlet while not on a secured internet connection is a best practice.
In general, though, you should probably just leave your Chromecast plugged in and connected to your TV or HDMI monitor. That will ensure that your Chromecast stays updated and secure with all the latest features so that when you want to watch something you’re not waiting for software updates to finish.
You also have control of when or if you want to see Chromecast remote control options displayed for your device. If, you don’t mind the notifications then, just dismiss them as they pop up. Otherwise completely disable them, so others aren’t tempted to mess with your casts.

Chromecast is a great tool for streaming media from your favorite Android apps to your TV, but sometimes you won't want to cast. This article explains how to stop Chromecast on Android, or just disable Chromecast notifications if that's all you need.
This article was written using a Samsung Galaxy A01 running Android 10 and UI Core 2.0. The exact steps may vary slightly on other phones or versions of Android 10, but the concepts are the same.
How to Stop Chromecast on Android 10
If you're looking to totally disable Chromecast on Android, your options are limited. Android doesn't offer a direct way to disable Chromecast or the option to cast from your Android 10 device to Chromecast, per se. That is, there's no button or setting labeled Disable Chromecast. Still, you have a few options:
- Stop casting. If you simply want to stop a cast that’s already running, that’s simple. Just go into the app that’s casting, tap the Cast icon (the box with lines coming into the bottom left corner), and tap the stop button. If you’re mirroring your screen, go to the Google Home app and tap the room the Chromecast is in then tap the Settings > Stop Mirroring.
- Unplug Chromecast from TV or power. To temporarily disable your Chromecast and its features, just unplug the device from your TV’s HDMI port or unplug the power cable from the device. In either scenario, your Chromecast won’t be able to work with your TV or your phone.
- Turn off Chromecast. If the turn the Chromecast off, you’ll have disabled it until you turn it back on.
How to Delete Chromecast From the Home App
You can totally disable Chromecast if you remove the device from your Google Home app. This of course will block you from casting permanently until you set it up again, so it might not be the best option, but it does the job. To remove Chromecast:
To get started, make sure your phone and Chromecast are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Go to the Google Home app and tap the room the Chromecast is in.
Tap Remove device > Remove.
If you’re technologically inclined and want to truly disable Chromecast on your Android phone while leaving the device set up, you’ve only got one option: rooting your device. If you root your Android phone, you’ll have the option to remove system-level services like casting. We don’t recommend this unless you really know what you’re doing or are comfortable messing things up.
How to Disable Chromecast Notifications on Android 10
If you've got a Chromecast set up in your house, when guests come over and connect to the same Wi-Fi network as the Chromecast, they may get a notification suggesting that they connect to your Chromecast. You may not want guests to have this option and thus may want to disable Chromecast notifications.
If you don’t want to totally block guests, but want some more control, try using Chromecast Guest Mode.
If that's the case, you're in luck: there's a setting for that! Follow these steps to disable Chromecast notifications on Android 10:
Connect your Android phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast.
Tap the Home app to open it.
Tap the name of the room the Chromecast device is in.
Tap the Settings icon.
Scroll down and move the Let others control your cast media slider to off/gray.
Bu, eğer kızınız bütün gün My Little Pony’i izliyorsa, sizi bilgilendiren bildirimlerle ilgilenmeniz gerekir..
Google Ana Sayfa uygulamasında yer almak yerine, temel ayar aslında Android’in Ayarlar menüsünde bulunur. Devam edin ve bildirim gölgesini aşağı çekin ve dişli simgesine dokunun.
Buradan, Kişisel bölümüne gidin ve “Google” girişini bulun. Ona dokunun.
Poof.
