How to send selfie stickers on instagram

Prepare to take your Instagram selfie game to a whole new level. Thanks to a slew of new messaging features, you can send selfie stickers on Instagram via DM. Consider this fair warning to your frequently-messaged friends.

In September 2020, Instagram launched a bunch of new messaging features after announcing it’d be merging its messaging services with Messenger, Facebook’s messaging platform. (Because Facebook is Instagram’s parent company, this merge was only a matter of time.) Along with new capabilities like cross-app messaging and features like Vanish Mode — AKA Incognito Mode but make it DMs — Instagram now allows you to send selfie stickers via DM.

You’ve been able to turn static selfies into stickers for some time now. However, this latest update allows you to make a GIF-like reaction emoji of your very own face, which you can save and use in Instagram Stories or send your DMs. The new selfie stickers essentially combine Boomerangs, emojis, and selfies to make a customized sticker that features your face.

Using the new selfie stickers is super simple. First, you’ll want to make sure your Instagram app is up-to-date. Once you’ve done that, you’re ready to unleash your selfie stickers onto the app.

1. Go to your DMs.

You can open an existing thread or start composing a message.

2. Tap the sticker icon.

Once you’re composing a message, you’ll see the sticker icon on the right-hand side of where you type to chat. It kind of looks like Face from Nickelodeon. Sorry, you won’t be able to unsee that now.

3. Tap the selfie sticker.

When your Sticker tab opens, you’ll likely see the selfie sticker in one of the first few rows. It’s the heart-eyes emoji. If it isn’t popping up or you don’t want to scroll forever, you can just type “selfie” in the sticker search bar.

4. Selfie away.

When you select the selfie sticker, you’ll see your face pop up in front of the gradient background. By tapping on that circle, you can change your background color and switch from color to black and white. You’ll also have options to emoji-fy your face. Become the heart eyes. Embody the fire emoji. You can change the background color on those as well by tapping in the circle.

5. Send that selfie sticker.

Once you take your selfie, you’ll see options to retake, send, and save. If you save your sticker, you’ll see if pop up anytime you open the selfie sticker maker, whether that’s in DMs or in your Instagram story.

The selfie sticker is ideal for when you want to accurately convey your cry-laughter, when you need to express your celebratory joy with the party horn emoji, or when you just need some time to kill. Happy selfie-ing!

The figurine Selfie animated or sticker serves to give more dynamics and reactions to the conversation in a personalized way. It works like a boomerang and allows you to make fun faces and mouths on a colorful background. You can also save what you created to use again both in chat and in Stories.

According to our test, the feature is available, for now, only for conversations on Instagam’s Direct. However, Messenger has an option to take selfie photos with backgrounds and send in the conversation. Just access the app’s camera and choose a filter.

You already know how to take a selfie. It’s probably the first thing you did when you got your iPhone up and running. But did you know you can take a selfie and add stickers? Right there in the Messages app?

Your friends are already hungry for another one of your awesome selfies. Imagine how fired up they’re going to be when they see those stickers.

iMessage’s camera packs all kinds of neat extras

How to send selfie stickers on instagram

First, open up the Messages app and pick a conversation. Then tap the camera button, just like you were going to send one of your usual awesome selfies, the ones that all your friends go crazy for. Then, tap what Apple calls the “star” button, but which looks more like a cross between a flower and a diagram of an atom. My friends are going to love this.
Photo: Cult of Mac

This will automatically switch you to the font-facing selfie camera, and you’ll see a row of icons at the bottom that are not available in the regular selfie camera. These are where you activate Animoji or comic-book filters, and add text and stickers to your photos.

Today we want stickers, so tap on one of the stickers buttons. These will look different depending on what sticker packs you have installed on your iPhone. (You will see an icon for each of your active sticker packs.)

After you tap this button, you will see a grid of stickers. If you have multiple sticker packs — and why wouldn’t you? — you can choose between them by tapping the X button to exit the current pack, and picking another one.

How to stick a sticker to your selfie

To stick a sticker to your selfie, just drag it up from the sticker grid, place it, and let go. You can add multiple stickers, from multiple packs.

You’ll notice that — thanks to the magic of augmented reality — the stickers follow you around. Place a pair of glasses on your face, or a hat on your head, and it will stay there as you strike your awesome selfie pose. This is a neat touch, and probably the best use AR has ever been put to.

To take the photo, tap the X to clear the sticker picker, and continue as usual. Tap the shutter button to snap the photo, and the blue arrow to send it.

More fun with selfie stickers: Unleash the megaselfie

One final tip: You can combine all the available effects into one awesome megaselfie. That means that you can strap on an Animoji mask, add some stickers, and then put a filter on the resulting image. Take a look at my totally non-creepy example at the top of this post. Rad, as the kids say. Or said. In 1985.

Instagram is really trying to be your favorite social media app. They’ve done everything from creating the "Stories" feature to allowing DMs — and now, there’s a new update that promises to change the way you send DMs. The new Direct Message sticker update on Instagram was announced on Aug. 17, and it changes the way you DM by allowing users to reply using a photo or video.

I know you might be thinking, "Doesn’t IG do this already?" Well, not quite. Instagram DMs allow you to send photos and videos via Instagram Direct, but this is the first time you can reply using a specific photo, video, or re-shared posts. To use the feature, all you have to do is hit "reply" to a DM, and a sticker will automatically show up. Then, you open the camera, take a selfie, and send it off. That’s it.

This new feature also allows users to take split screen photos by tapping on the sticker. After you have the photo setup, you can make it your own by adding as many doodles and stickers as you’d like.

So how do you get your hands on this new feature? Well, it’s available on Instagram’s 10.34 update and is already available to download on iOS and Android.

It’s no wonder millennials are spending so much time on the photo-sharing app. With all of the new features that Instagram rolls out on what seems to be a regular basis, Millennials spend anywhere from 24 to 32 minutes a day on the app, depending on their age.

That’s a lot of time. but honestly, if IG continues with these awesome updates, they might just put Snapchat out of business. Let’s see what cool new update Snap will come out with next because I doubt they’ll stand idly by while IG owns them.
