For many, especially those who find themselves working from home or on the road, the smartphone is used as an extension of the personal computer. Information created or consumed on the smartphone is shared with the PC and vice versa. This interactive connectivity has many uses and generally increases productivity—it’s practically second nature for much of the modern workforce.

In Microsoft Windows 10 the connection between the smartphone and the computer can be used to share pages displayed on your favorite web browser. The webpages are shared between devices using a tool called Continue on PC. This tool can be accessed by connecting your smartphone to your PC and then installing the Microsoft Phone Companion app.

Connect your smartphone to Windows 10

The first step in this process is to connect your smartphone to your PC, which is possible for both Android and iOS devices. We presented a tutorial on how to connect an Android smartphone to Windows 10 back in 2018, but we are making one change to those step-by-step instructions.

Instead of installing the Microsoft Launcher, we are going to install the Microsoft Phone Companion app, shown in Figure A.

Figure A

Both apps include the Continue on PC tool, but the Phone Companion app will allow us to take advantage of connected devices without also altering the layout of our smartphone the way Microsoft Launcher does.

In 2018, Microsoft only offered Launcher as its smartphone connection app. In 2020, Microsoft offers several options. You may have to scroll down the Google Play page to find Phone Companion, but it will be there in the list of available Microsoft apps.

Continue on PC in Windows 10

Now, that your smartphone and Windows 10 PC are connected, you can use the Continue on PC feature to “throw” a webpage you are viewing on one device over to the other device. As you can see in Figure B, the Edge browser on my Android smartphone is displaying the TechRepublic website.

Figure B

Touching the share button in the bottom right-hand corner offers several choices, including the option to Continue on PC. When you tap that icon, you will be given a list of connected PCs, as shown in Figure C.

Figure C

Choose which computer you want to use and the web browser on your Windows 10 PC will start and then display the website in question automatically. Alternatively, you may wish to send your PC a notification with a link to the website, which you can then access at your leisure.

The Continue feature works in the opposite direction as well, where you share the URL of a website displayed in your PC web browser with your connected smartphone. Sharing in this direction can come in handy when you need to view a specific website while on the road or in a remote location and don’t want to thumb type the URL.

The Microsoft Phone Companion app (Figure D) also allows you to control your smartphone from the computer, view and manage the photos taken by your smartphone, attend to your SMS messages, and manage notifications.

You know those websites, searches and articles that you pull up on your iPhone or Android phone? With the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, you can now forward them to instantly open on your PC, so you can continue what you’re doing – researching that project, shopping for those shoes, finishing that article – with all the benefits of the bigger screen.

Here’s how to get started:

Head to Settings, click on Phone and Add a phone. You’ll need to sign in with your Microsoft Account, if you haven’t already. Type your phone number, and click send.

Once you click send, you’ll receive a text with a link to the app store to download and install an app.

Now, for a seamless browsing experience across your phone and PC, you can download the Microsoft Edge mobile app for free and try out the Continue on PC feature this way! If you’re looking at a website in the app that you want to continue looking at on your PC, simply find the Continue on PC icon on your iPhone or Android phone. Sign in with the same Microsoft Account you’re using on your PC.

Next it will ask you if you want to “Continue now” or “Continue later.” If you choose “Continue now,” the website will open on the linked PC. If you choose “Continue later,” the website will show up under Action Center for you to get to later when you’re ready.

Head over here for more on what’s new in the Fall Creators Update, and have a great week!

The Spring Update 2018 has been distributed since April 2018, however, it is possible that some users have not yet received it and that they are therefore struggling with the previous update, not very brilliant – it must be said – but still useful for the interesting function “Continue your PC“.

What are we referring to? It is easy to say, the Creators Fall Update, released by Microsoft last fall, introduced several innovations (refined in the most recent update of April 2018), including the possibility of continue an activity started on mobile devices (Android or iOS), directly on your desktop or laptop computer.

To be fair, it must be specified that, as the entire Fall Creators Update seemed to us, in a certain sense, approximate, even the “Continue on PC” function appears to be amputated of part of its potential. Currently it is in fact possible to “transmit” from mobile device to PC only Web pages.

In any case, do not worry, the April Update (here’s how to download or update to Windows 10 April Update) promises to make sparks thanks to the introduction of the interesting feature Timeline, which we will talk about briefly at the end of the guide, which will certainly make you forget the limits of “Continue your PC“.

While waiting to be able to take advantage of Timeline, we just have to go into the merits of our tutorial dedicated to how to use the “Continue on PC” function of Windows 10, useful for “shifting” freely from a mobile device (be it Android or iOS) to PC.

How to use “Continue on PC”

So let’s see how to use, in a few simple steps, the “Continue on PC” function:

  1. First, the two affected devices must be connected to the Internet (it is not essential that the network be the same). Additionally, you will need to log into a Microsoft account on your PC (Start> Settings> Accounts). How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone
  2. On the PC, follow this sequence: Start> Settings> Phone> Add Phone. Enter your phone number in the space provided; then click “Send”.How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone
  3. You will then receive an SMS from Microsoft containing a link that will redirect directly to the Google Play Store if you have an Android smartphone or to the Apple App Store if you have an iPhone. Specifically for devices Android the application in question is Microsoft Launcher, for those iOS it is Continue on PC.How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phoneAlternatively, you can bypass this step and proceed directly to download applications from the reference stores based on the operating system of your phone. Furthermore, for Android, it is not mandatory to use the Microsoft launcher, it is sufficient that it is installed.
  4. Install and launch the application which will require minimal appearance customization. You will then be asked to allow the app to:
    • access your contacts
    • make and manage phone calls;
    • send and view SMS;
    • access photos, media and files on the device;
    • access the location of the device.
  5. Click on “Allow” and log in with the same Microsoft account also present on the PC.How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone
  6. Before you can use the “Continue on PC” feature you need to perform another operation on the PC. First, you will have to follow the sequence Settings> System> Projection on this PC. Set the items “Available Everywhere” and “Only the first time”, as shown in the screenshot. How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone
  7. The “Continue on PC” function is ready and usable. To check this, open a Google Chrome page on your smartphone and try to share it; among the available options you will also notice “Continue on PC”.How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone
  8. Then click on “Continue on PC” and wait for the search for devices to identify the PC of interest; select it and les jeux sont faits!

NB The links, on the PC, will open in Microsoft Edge, of course. Furthermore, by clicking on “Continue at a later time”, it will be possible to send the link to the Windows 10 Notification Center, making it available for opening at another time.

What is Timeline for, available with the April Update

A mention of this interesting feature included in the Windows 10 spring update is certainly worthwhile. Timeline (accessed using the Win key, next to Cortana’s search bar) compiles a sort of chronology of the actions performed on the PC and beyond. The reason why we mention you after discussing “Continue on PC” is precisely because Timeline will also be able to account for all the activities carried out on Windows, Android and iOS mobile devices, provided of course that they are connected to the same account Microsoft.

So here you can open applications, retrieve searches made in the past or modify or restore a document created on a smartphone. A big step up from “Continue on PC”, right?

Conclusion

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

Here is a simple step-by-step guide to using Microsoft’s ‘Continue on PC’ feature on both Android and iOS devices.

Last year when Microsoft announced the Windows Creators update, it brought a bunch of new features and functionalities to the operating system, including a feature called ‘Continue on PC’. This is a feature similar to the ‘Continuity’ feature on Apple’s Mac OS, however, the Windows variant is a bit limited. The Windows ‘Continue on PC’ feature just makes browsing the phone and your PC more seamless. So, if you are a power user of the internet and want to make a better use of your devices, here is how to setup 'Continue on PC’ for your Android or iOS devices.

The initial setup has to be done on the PC and here is how you do it.

  1. Press Start button
  2. Press the gear (settings) icon

On Android, you will have to follow these steps:

  1. Launch the web browser on your phone. Google Chrome is available for Android phones.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

A new feature in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update called “Continue on PC.” It allows you to start work on your phone and move it to PC.

Your smartphone today has a ton of computing power, but not everything can be done on it. A lot of times, for complex tasks you need to complete your workflow on a PC. Microsoft understands this, and with the upcoming Fall Creators Update, it’s introducing a new Phone-to-PC linking feature that lets you start work on your phone, and then transition it to your Windows 10 system.

We have shown you how to use Continue on PC with iOS and here’s a look at connecting your Android phone with Windows 10. Note that for this to work you’ll need to be running Build 16251 or above.

Note: Since this article was originally written, Microsoft has rolled out the “Your Phone” app. It continues to gain features regularly. Make sure to read our article: How to Send Text Messages from Windows 10 with the Your Phone app.

Connect an Android Phone with Windows 10

To start off, you need to pair your Android phone with Windows 10. To do that head to Settings > Phone and then select the “Add a phone” button.

After you’re signed in, you won’t need to sign in again until you use a different device or log out of your account. Another step in the process to point out is when you tap the Continue on PC action, you’ll get the option to send now or later. After that, your phone will scan your network for devices capable of receiving the item. In the example below I have two different systems to choose from.

When you send an item over to the PC, you will receive a notification in Action Center that an item has been sent from your Android phone to the PC. For example, here I sent a link to one of our articles.

Summing Up

Keep in mind that this feature is still under development and, at the time of this writing, it’s definitely not perfect. I, like my colleague Andre with iOS, had varying degrees of success trying to send over websites. In my testing, I used a Nexus 6P running Android Nougat, a Lenovo Flex 2, and Dell Inspiron desktop (both running Windows 10 Build 16257). Sometimes nothing would be sent over, and sometimes I would receive the notification, but it wouldn’t open in my browser.

However, when things did work as advertised, it showed the potential of how this will surely be handy in the future. Right now it seems to be limited to just sending over websites, and not other items like Office documents. Although, I was able to send over searches from the Bing app for Android.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

One more thing to point out is with Microsoft Apps for Android, which allows you to easily find official Microsoft apps has a lot of potential for this Continue on PC feature. Once the functionality gets integrated into more of the available Microsoft apps (and other apps for that matter), there is a ton of potential moving forward.

The Spring 2018 Update has been rolling out since April 2018, however, some users may not have received it yet and are therefore struggling with the previous update, not brilliant – it must be said – but still useful as well. for the interesting function «Continue on PC«.

To tell the truth, it should be noted that, as the entire Fall Creators Update seemed to us, in a certain sense, approximate, even the “Continue on PC” function seems amputated from some of its potential. Currently, it is only possible to “stream” web pages from a mobile device to a PC.

Anyway, don’t worry, the April update (here’s how to download or upgrade to Windows 10 April Update) promises to be awesome thanks to the introduction of the interesting feature Timelinewhich we will talk about briefly at the end of the guide, which will undoubtedly make you forget the limitations of «Continue on PC«.

While waiting to be able to take advantage of the timeline, we just have to enter the merits of our tutorial dedicated to how to use the “Continue on PC” function of Windows 10, useful to freely “switch” from a mobile device (either Android or iOS) to PC.

I’m feeling really stupid. Our PCs recently got the Windows 10 build 1803 update, and when going through the Tips, I noticed the “Continue on PC” feature. For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to make it work with my HP Elite x3 running Windows 10 Mobile. What the heck am I missing? I’m sitting here with my SP3 & phone, and I have a web page open in Edge on my phone I’d love to read on the larger SP3 screen. How do get Continue on PC to work? What am I missing?

Yes, that is correct.

While the Continue on PC feature is unavailable for Windows 10 Mobile devices, you can still sync your Microsoft Edge browser favorites between your phone and Windows 10 computer. Make sure that you are logged in with the same Microsoft account on both devices.

Oh, wow — MS really is doing everything possible to make me leave Windows phones behind, isn’t it 😭

Unless I’m completely missing something — and please correct me if I am — the ability to sync Favorites between my phone & Windows 10 computers is nothing like the “Continue on PC” feature MS has made available to (traitor) Android & iPhone users, is it? I watched the video in the Windows 10 1803 “what’s new” tips, and I’m feeling completely betrayed by MS.

I’ve played around with Continuum, and while I don’t really get it, it doesn’t seem to be anything like the “Continue on PC” feature, either.

I cannot count the number of times I’m looking at something on my Windows 10 Mobile phone & would love the ability to “Continue on PC” on my SP3’s larger screen sitting inches away.

Huh — guess I’d be able to do that if I’d gone for an Android or iPhone rather than remaining loyal to MS.

It really is insulting that MS makes such a useful feature available for Android & iPhone users in Windows 10 but denies it to Windows 10 Mobile customers 😤

I recently switched to Edge on my PC (Windows 10 Home – Version 20H2) and thought I’d switch to Edge on my iPhone (iOS 14.7.1) as well. I would like to use the Continue on PC feature (not the Continue on PC app), but when I try to use the feature on my iPhone, it cannot find my PC.

It then gives me this screen:

But I have linked my PC and my iPhone.

Both devices are on the same wifi network.

Hi, my name is Claudeir, I’m happy to help you!
Well, this problem is becoming known lately, apparently it is a problem that Windows needs an update to solve, but still, follow these steps to find a solution.

-Keep everything up to date with the system (right click on start, settings, update and security, check for update.)

-You are using ‘Your Phone’ app right?
Windows+Q, look for the app, right click > App settings > Repair. If it doesn’t, go back to the settings and click on Restore.

-Make sure the app is up to date, open the Microsoft Store, click on the three dots> Download and updates> get updates.

If you still don’t solve the problem, as I said, this problem is more and more frequent, so I suggest reporting this to the developers, both on Edge and Windows, on Edge, use Shift+Alt+i to give your feedback. On Windows, use Windows+Q, look for Comments Hub, there you can suggest improvements and report issues, the more people report it, the sooner it will be resolved.

Feel free to leave your opinion, marking as answered if the answer helped, or leaving more details so that we can continue the service, this is very important to us.
Graciously,

Back in 2017, when Microsoft released Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, the company introduced a novel app called “Continue on PC.” It allowed quick web page sharing from mobile devices to Edge on Windows 10. Yesterday, Microsoft pushed update 1.9.5 and informed users about the impending end of support for “Continue on PC” next month. Here what the update description says:

Thanks for the memories! Continue on PC is going away. As of July 27, 2021 Continue on PC will no longer be supported. We thank you for allowing us to be part of your link sharing experience.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

Continue on PC works by integrating into the browser’s sharing menu. You could tap the share button and select Continue on PC to send a web page directly to your computer. With the latest updates to Edge on desktop and mobile platforms, Continue on PC becomes redundant. Microsoft Edge now has a built-in tab sharing capability that allows you to send a page from one device to another with a single tap without installing additional software.

Recently, Microsoft started rolling out the tab sharing feature to all Edge Stable users. If you are not familiar with that feature, be sure to check out our dedicated guide that shows how to send a tab to another device in Microsoft Edge.

The only downside to the new tab sharing capabilities in Edge is that sharing works in Microsoft Edge only. By integrating into the device’s share menu, Continue on PC allowed users to send links from any browser on mobile devices.

Still, it was a somewhat clunky experience that required pairing a phone with a computer, and poor reviews in the App Store and Google Play Store only prove that statement. In Microsoft Edge, sharing tabs across devices works much better, simpler, and more reliable.

About Taras Buria

Taras is here to cover stories about Microsoft and everything around, although sometimes he prefers Apple. You can stay in touch with him on Twitter.

Microsoft’s latest major update, Creator’s Fall Update, introduced a new Phone setting in the Settings app. It allows you to link your smartphone to your PC. The feature enabled by linking between your phone and PC one of which is called Continue on PC. It works very similar to Apple’s continuity where you can pick up where you have left off on a Mac from the iOS Safari. The difference is that Microsoft made this to work on both Android and iOS, with one-way sync that only works from mobile push websites to PC, at least for now. Microsoft does have Edge browser released for both platforms so it’s just a matter of time to see bidirectional sync between currently opened tabs.

To get started with Continue on PC you need to first link your Android or iPhone to your PC. Go to Settings > Phone.

If you have Edge open you will see a new page is immediately opened after you have sent to your desktop. If your Edge browser isn’t open, you will see a notification in your Action Center. That’s how “Continue on PC” works. It’s pretty neat, but currently only limits to Edge browser. Chrome has a similar feature rolled out to their mobile apps years ago, but that said it too only works within Chrome’s eco-system.

Microsoft does allow the user to use their device’s native browser iOS or Chrome and share a link instantly to Edge browser. Microsoft is definitely on the right track to embrace their misstep in the mobile market. Looking forward to seeing more bridges between PC and our mobile devices that have a high likely hood of not running the same platform.

Microsoft made several improvements to Windows 10 when they released the Fall Creators Update in October 2017. One such improvement was the addition of cross-device web browsing functionality. The new feature “Continue on PC” connects your PC to your iPhone or Android device so that you can share web pages between them. This article shows how you can set up your own seamless web browsing experience.

How to Download and Set Up “Continue on PC”

How to Save Web Pages When You Aren’t Near Your PC

To use this feature on iPhone, launch your browser and tap “Share -> Continue on PC -> Continue later.”

On Android tap “More -> Share -> Continue on PC” and choose “Continue later.”

Conclusion

Using Continue on PC is a great way to boost your productivity, but there are a couple caveats you should keep in mind:

  • While it doesn’t matter if your devices are on different WiFi or cellular networks, your phone and computer must be connected to the Internet for Continue on PC to work.
  • You can share web pages from any browser on your phone, but they will always open in Microsoft Edge. This is a drawback for anyone who isn’t a fan of Edge. You can always copy and paste the URL, as a workaround, to another browser.

Ultimately, Continue on PC seems like a lite version of Handoff, one of Apple’s Continuity features for MacOS, but it’s still a must-have for any Windows user and offers a fairly simple way to use cross-device web browsing. Be sure to give it a try.

Last week Microsoft released a new feature in its Windows 10 Fall Creators Update called “Continue on PC”. I think it will be a must have featured in the future for both Android and iOS users. Let’s take a closer look!

So far, the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update includes some solid improvements to refine its predecessor, version 1703. But last week, Microsoft released a preview feature that makes it a must have for any user with an Android or iPhone mobile device.

The feature, Continue on PC allows you to share content between your smartphone mobile and your Windows 10 PC. Previously, the feature was only supported on Android however now that it supports the iPhone / iOS devices, I’m finally able to check it out and review it for all you groovyReaders!

Oh, before you download it, I must warn you. Continue on PC is still a bit buggy at the moment. It does show potential however and demonstrates where Microsoft is going, even with competitor products.

Checking Out Continue on PC for iOS in Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

At first glance, the features Continue on PC for iOS supports is limited to just a few apps (Web Browsing) however, Microsoft plans to expand what can be “Sent to PC” in future versions.

What you need for this to work?

  • An active Internet connection.
  • An iOS or Android device.
  • Microsoft Account – the same email address must be used to sign in on both iOS, Android and Windows 10.
  • The Microsoft Authenticator app for iOS or Android.
  • A device running Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

Before you begin, you will need to pair your phone with Windows 10. Open Settings and you will see a new category called Phone. Windows 10 is increasingly adding new categories with each release and version 1709 now brings that total to 13.

As I mentioned, as of the writing of this article, Continue on PC is limited to web pages. There is no option to send photos, a Word document or other everyday experiences. But, the potential is there for more magic to happen as they iterate on the app. MacOS has included a similar capability called Continuity, which is a lot more mature. Certainly, this early effort shows a new Microsoft, who is willing to meet users on the devices of their choice. A smart move as more and more people demand choice vs. vendor lock-in!

I built my own PC I don’t know if that matters, but i did everything i could think of. Oh btw i have a iPhone 6s. I downloaded the app then i clicked “try it now” it takes me to MSN.com. I clicked the share button then click Continue on PC. Then it proceeds to find devices that are linked. Nothing happens. It’s saying make sure you “1. Have the latest windows 10 Fall Creators Update” which I do, and it says “2. link you phone and PC in settings >Phone on your PC” which I did already too. When I do it again it just sends me the Continue on PC app again to my phone. Do you have any idea how I get my PC to recognize my IPhone ? Do I need to install something else? buy some kind of part? If you could reply that was be great thank you.

For me it just sits there with a progress bar after you choose a computer to share too.. I mean it’s the youtube app but surely I’m just sharing the same YouTube Web URL for the video I’m on as a browser right? (If not then wtf Google downloading isn’t allowed without a subscription anyway so there’s no other kinda data to share!)

…second try worked, Maybe because I openened Settings -> Phone, maybe because I opened the Phone app also, and it was still the default even though the new windows settings is replacing it I had to open it to have it deprovision it’s configuration for use with Share to PC – and Windows Config Settings/Phone auto-replaced it.. I dunno.

Microsoft’s Continue on PC iOS app updated to Version 1.9.5 earlier today. This update didn’t include any new features or fixes but instead added a message upon startup saying that the app would be shut down next month on July 27th.

“On July 27, 2021 the Continue on PC app will no longer be supported,” the new splash screen reads. “To continue sharing web pages between your devices, install Edge.”

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

The release notes also contain a similar message:

Thanks for the memories! Continue on PC is going away. As of July 27, 2021 Continue on PC will no longer be supported. We thank you for allowing us to be part of your link sharing experience.

The Continue on PC app adds extra functionality to iPhone and iPad devices that allows them to send content to a connected Windows 10 PC which then automatically opens in the Microsoft Edge browser. It’s a genuinely useful feature but one that has become a bit redundant as the iOS Microsoft Edge app now features Continue on PC as a built-in feature plus users can now sync browsing history between iOS and Windows by logging into Edge with the same account.

This tutorial provides a guide on how to enhance personal productivity by using “CONTINUE ON PC” to link an Android or iOS phone to a Windows 10 PC

Requirements.

Overview

1) Open the Windows Settings app, go to UPDATE & SECURITY and check for updates. This will download the Windows 10 fall creators update
2) Open the Windows YOUR PHONE app and link your android or IOS device
3) Mirror your phones display on your WINDOWS 10 device
4) Learn how to send & receive messages from your windows device
5) Learn how to make and receive calls on your WINDOWS 10 device.

Step 1: Get The Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.

1) If you are currently running an older version of windows 10 you’ll need to download and install the fall creators update so as to enable support for the “YOUR PHONE” app.

To get the update go to “START > SETTINGS > UPDATE & SECURITY > CHECK FOR UPDATES”

With Microsoft aiming to shut down Windows Phone, it has increased its focus towards other Mobile platforms in the market. Features like ‘Continue on PC’ are constantly being developed and added to Android and iOS apps. Windows 10 now lets you link your Android or iOS phone with your PC.

Link Android or iPhone to Windows 10

The feature is straightforward and is easily accessible. You can easily add a Phone via the Settings app. To start setting up your phone, go to ‘Settings’ and then select ‘Phone’.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

Now click on ‘Add a Phone’ to start the linking process.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

Another window will pop up that will guide you through the entire process. As a first step, you need to enter your mobile number to which a text message containing a link will be sent.

Now on your mobile phone, using that link install the application from Play Store or iOS App Store. On Android, the link will take you to ‘Cortana’ for Android (in my case at least) which is still in beta as of now, but it is fully functional. As another step, you can download and install ‘Microsoft Apps’ and ‘Microsoft Launcher’ which includes ‘Continue on PC’ functionality.

Cortana on Android/iOS

To enable this linking feature, make sure you log in using the same Microsoft Account on all the devices. Once you’ve installed Cortana on your phone, you can connect it to your PC.

You will see a dialogue in the ‘Upcoming’ section notifying you that you can connect Cortana to your PC. Hit ‘Connect’ to establish the connectivity. To verify that your phone is linked to your PC, you can go to ‘Settings’ -> ‘Phone’ and confirm that your device shows up here.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

On your Phone, go to settings in ‘Cortana’ and then select ‘Cross Device’. Here you can manage your notifications synchronization across devices. You can enable notifications sync so that you are reminded about messages and calls on your PC while your phone is away. Apart from that, you can enable notifications for all the other applications installed on your phone.

Continue on PC

To enable ‘Continue on PC’, you’ll have to download ‘Microsoft Apps’. Microsoft Apps adds a ‘Continue on PC’ option to the device’s sharing menu. So, anything that is opened on your phone can be directly sent to your PC by simply hitting the share button.

I tried this feature with Web pages, YouTube Videos, Photos, and whatnot. It works flawlessly well with most of the content.

To share something, all you need to do is hit the ‘Share’ button and select ‘Continue on PC’. Wait till the list of your devices is loaded and then select the PC you want to continue your work on. Also, there is also an option to Continue Later which will send particular information to Action Center on all your PCs.

How to use windows 10’s “continue on pc” feature with an iphone or android phone

You can also use Microsoft Launcher as it has built-in capabilities to directly send something to your PC.

This post may show screenshots of Android devices, but all the steps are almost similar for iOS devices as well.

No matter how much we slam Apple for its closed ecosystem, many of us often find ourselves raving about how well coordinated the iPhone and Mac are. Then we turn to Android, which just can’t do all those tricks, leaving us feeling a little peeved— at least until Microsoft came into the picture. Microsoft has all but adopted Google’s mobile OS after its own phone business crumbled, and it has increasing sought to bridge the deep divide between Windows 10 and Android with the Your Phone app.

Microsoft’s Your Phone started as a barebones companion app back in late 2018, but with consistent updates and feature additions, Microsoft has turned it into a more complete product for all your cross-platform sharing needs. Right now, it can handle calls, notifications, photos, and a whole lot more. And Microsoft isn’t stopping there; it already has a few more handy features in the pipeline.

In this guide, we’ll quickly run you through Your Phone’s setup process, all its features (there are a ton of them!), and everything in between. Perhaps, you’ll also get to see how deeply Microsoft and Samsung are in love.

Getting things ready

Setting up the bridge between your Windows 10 machine and Android phone is pretty straightforward. All you need to do is install the Your Phone app both on your phone (from the Play Store) and PC — the app generally comes preinstalled on newer Windows versions, but if it isn’t, you can head to the Microsoft Store and download it. One big requirement for the cross-platform app to work is that you must be signed in with the same Microsoft account on both devices.

After logging into your account, the Android app will request a handful of permissions to make calls, access your files, messages, and contacts for its various features to work correctly. These permissions are essential, and the app would fail to work without them. You should also consider turning off any battery optimizations for the app for a seamless experience. For one final time, the app on your handset will take your consent to finish the pairing process, and you’ll be all done.

On compatible Samsung phones, the initial setup process is a little different. Recent Galaxy devices have “Link to Windows” baked right into the OS, and you don’t need to install any additional app to get started. You just need to pull down the quick settings menu and tap on Link to Windows. It’ll take you to Microsoft’s login page, and from there, you can follow the steps detailed above. You can also go ahead with the earlier drill entirely in case your Samsung device isn’t supported.

From the looks of it, the Your Phone app for Android is pretty barebones, but it does all the heavy lifting to send your data to Windows 10. While by default both devices must be on the same Wi-Fi network for syncing, the app lets you enable sharing over mobile data, though you should obviously keep an eye on just how much it’s using. There’ll be times when you’ll see a connection error indicating Windows can’t communicate with your phone; all you need to do in that case is open Your Phone on the connected handset, and it’ll do the trick. If it doesn’t, then you can head to the app’s Settings screen on the PC and recheck that the feature you’re trying to use is turned on.

Before we proceed to discuss individual Your Phone features, here’s a quick tip: you can even enable sync for multiple PCs. It’ll work as long as they’re all logged in with the same Microsoft account as your phone, and you’ve replicated the setup process on each PC. Now, let’s talk about the app’s actual capabilities.

Notifications

Your Phone will receive your handset’s app notifications right on your laptop screen without having even to touch the phone. It’s perhaps why many of us are interested in Your Phone in the first place. Notifications are enabled for sync by default, but you can choose which apps get to ping you when you’re working. The app picker is available on the PC version of Your Phone, which syncs the entire list of apps installed on your Android phone. For example, you may not want Gmail or WhatsApp sending you notifications if you’ve already got them open in browser tabs on your laptop.

One of the many features that Windows 10 was an unifying operating system. This meant that users would be able to use the apps from Microsoft’s app store on various devices: PC, phone, xbox etc. This also meant that you will be able to get notifications across linked devices and continue working on one device and transfer your work on another.

Even though the windows phone community never had many users, this was something that was accepted as one of the best things that Microsoft ever pulled off. The joy didn’t last too long because in mid-2017 Microsoft officially ended support for all Windows Phones. The community didn’t take this too well and most users migrated to the Android or iOS platform where they were missing the feature that enabled them to link their phone with their PC.

Couple of months ago, when Microsoft released the Fall Creators Update this feature was brought back to life. Microsoft enabled users to link their non-Windows phones with their Windows 10 PC updated to the Fall Creators Update.

This article will explain the procedure for linking an Android phone (in this case HTC One m8, running stock rom) with a Windows 10 machine running the Falls Creators Update.

How to link your Android phone with Windows 10

The first few steps will need to be done on your phone. It is also very important to log in using the same Microsoft account on all devices and applications.

1. On your android device, open the Play Store

2. In the search box type in “Cortana”

3. Install the application. Note: Cortana is not available in all countries. So if you see the message “This item isn’t available in your country” you can download the application from any other site that has APK files. Google “Cortana apk” and you will find it.

If you want to install and use the Continue on PC app on your PC or Mac, you will need to download and install a Desktop App emulator for your computer. We have worked diligently to help you understand how to use this app for your computer in 4 simple steps below:

Step 1: Download an Android emulator for PC and Mac

Ok. First things first. If you want to use the application on your computer, first visit the Mac store or Windows AppStore and search for either the Bluestacks app or the Nox App >> . Most of the tutorials on the web recommends the Bluestacks app and I might be tempted to recommend it too, because you are more likely to easily find solutions online if you have trouble using the Bluestacks application on your computer. You can download the Bluestacks Pc or Mac software Here >> .

Step 2: Install the emulator on your PC or Mac

Now that you have downloaded the emulator of your choice, go to the Downloads folder on your computer to locate the emulator or Bluestacks application.
Once you have found it, click it to install the application or exe on your PC or Mac computer.
Now click Next to accept the license agreement.
Follow the on screen directives in order to install the application properly.
If you do the above correctly, the Emulator app will be successfully installed.

Step 3: for PC – Windows 7/8 / 8.1 / 10 / 11

Now, open the Emulator application you have installed and look for its search bar. Once you found it, type Continue on PC in the search bar and press Search. Click on Continue on PCapplication icon. A window of Continue on PC on the Play Store or the app store will open and it will display the Store in your emulator application. Now, press the Install button and like on an iPhone or Android device, your application will start downloading. Now we are all done.
You will see an icon called “All Apps”.
Click on it and it will take you to a page containing all your installed applications.
You should see the icon. Click on it and start using the application.

Step 4: for Mac OS

Hi. Mac user!
